I was a little shocked to see smoke for the first time from my '08. I had about 13,000 miles on it. About 4 miles into my 16 mile hwy commute it felt like it went to regen and I noticed blue smoke as I pulled two short hills, smoke only on the up hill. Second time coming back from Wisconsin at 75mph, around 375 miles into the day I was on a flat stretch and shortly after it started doing its thing I blew some blue ( or what appeared to be) from the pipe. It was close to a fogger for a few seconds. Has anyone seen this? Can someone explain the sequence of operation when regen is required. Thanks

When my 6.4 goes into regen., MPG takes an obvious hit, if it were not for that function I think the 6.4 would be comparable to my '05 6.0. I truely enjoy your Dodge post, most of those guy's have convinced themselves how good their MPG is, 2 less cylinders does not = 8MPG.

Bet it was an automatic.

1300 + miles pulling my 19' boat on a single axle trailer last week, averaged 12.9 on the trip with an 6.4 CC DRW 6SPD LWB 4X4 on the Interstate 74 mph. You be the judge of that.

I drove a '99 7.3 w 6spd manual 150,000 miles and a '05 6.0 6spd 75,000 miles. Not one problem with either pulling 13,600 - 17,000 (camper + boat) on short and long hauls. 7.3 has lots of low end, 6.0 weaker on the bottom end but comes alive with a few extra RPM's. I think with an automatic the 6.0 would be a better truck than any 7.3 pulling 13,000lb, if you don't mind bottom end lag, the 6spd manual is bullet proof if you can drive it properly. I would shy from '03's, not looking for a fight '03 owners just my opinion, '04 and up will get the job done for ya.

Glad to see this post. I pull a 37' Hitchhiker, '08 4X4 DRW CC with a 6spd, when taking off in Low and first gear it seems to shake the tranny, comparable to your shudder explaination. It is hard to explain and does not do it empty. 3500 miles today, have seen 7.0 - 9.5 on the interstate at 75mph, 11.5 @ 65mph with a tail wind best on hwy. Running empty 15-17.3. My cruise control does not maintain speed, fluctuates about 5 mph when hitting a hill then excellerates back. Still happy but am going to the dealer with your same issue. Heavy P

Your dead on with those comments, my 6.4 just hit 300 miles, its in a drw cc 4X4 and compared to my '05 6.0 this sucker has the same off the clutch power my 7.3 did, it actually has boost on the gauge at 1100 rpm. The 6.0 never had a single issue, but man did it have lag with the 6spd. It is a bit early to post but it looks like the 6.4 likes fuel, 14.6mpg average on those first 300 miles. I did hitch up for a short 7 mile pull although the book says not to for 500 miles, the 6.4 seems to have the bottom end of the 7.3 and the mid and upper range of the 6.0.

I ordered Jan. 18 without the Nav. radio and with the Audiophile, glad to hear your happy with that. I have no feed back as of today on delivery other than the first week of April, guess that is past. I'll call my dealer and post what info I find.

Gear Ratio and Tranny combinations will make or break your expectations of mileage. 4:10 and up are stump pullers in my book but when you stretch your legs on the hwy 3:73 will be the big winner. My 3rd F350 will again be 3:73 and 6spd manual, the '99 and '05 are proven misers compared to others.

So can one assume that city driving will be a filter killer? Seems to make since to me. Short trips will create more soot due to cold engine conditions and never really get to "burn it out" once up to temp because you are shutting it down at that point. How long has the 2007 Fuel been in production? I have some big travel plans this summer with the '08, there are times you don't have much choice when on the road and I have worried about quality in the past at some of the old (real old) stations.
