  1. I was a little shocked to see smoke for the first time from my '08. I had about 13,000 miles on it. About 4 miles into my 16 mile hwy commute it felt like it went to regen and I noticed blue smoke as I pulled two short hills, smoke only on the up hill. Second time coming back from Wisconsin at 75mph, around 375 miles into the day I was on a flat stretch and shortly after it started doing its thing I blew some blue ( or what appeared to be) from the pipe. It was close to a fogger for a few seconds. Has anyone seen this? Can someone explain the sequence of operation when regen is required. Thanks
  2. I would love to hook a log chain to your turd tank station wagon and drag it around the block a couple times with my 6.4 Dually.
  3. That you are a retard and should think twice before posting info about oil that you know nothing about.
  4. When my 6.4 goes into regen., MPG takes an obvious hit, if it were not for that function I think the 6.4 would be comparable to my '05 6.0. I truely enjoy your Dodge post, most of those guy's have convinced themselves how good their MPG is, 2 less cylinders does not = 8MPG.
  5. 1300 + miles pulling my 19' boat on a single axle trailer last week, averaged 12.9 on the trip with an 6.4 CC DRW 6SPD LWB 4X4 on the Interstate 74 mph. You be the judge of that.
  6. I drove a '99 7.3 w 6spd manual 150,000 miles and a '05 6.0 6spd 75,000 miles. Not one problem with either pulling 13,600 - 17,000 (camper + boat) on short and long hauls. 7.3 has lots of low end, 6.0 weaker on the bottom end but comes alive with a few extra RPM's. I think with an automatic the 6.0 would be a better truck than any 7.3 pulling 13,000lb, if you don't mind bottom end lag, the 6spd manual is bullet proof if you can drive it properly. I would shy from '03's, not looking for a fight '03 owners just my opinion, '04 and up will get the job done for ya.
  7. Glad to see this post. I pull a 37' Hitchhiker, '08 4X4 DRW CC with a 6spd, when taking off in Low and first gear it seems to shake the tranny, comparable to your shudder explaination. It is hard to explain and does not do it empty. 3500 miles today, have seen 7.0 - 9.5 on the interstate at 75mph, 11.5 @ 65mph with a tail wind best on hwy. Running empty 15-17.3. My cruise control does not maintain speed, fluctuates about 5 mph when hitting a hill then excellerates back. Still happy but am going to the dealer with your same issue. Heavy P
  8. Your dead on with those comments, my 6.4 just hit 300 miles, its in a drw cc 4X4 and compared to my '05 6.0 this sucker has the same off the clutch power my 7.3 did, it actually has boost on the gauge at 1100 rpm. The 6.0 never had a single issue, but man did it have lag with the 6spd. It is a bit early to post but it looks like the 6.4 likes fuel, 14.6mpg average on those first 300 miles. I did hitch up for a short 7 mile pull although the book says not to for 500 miles, the 6.4 seems to have the bottom end of the 7.3 and the mid and upper range of the 6.0.
  9. I ordered Jan. 18 without the Nav. radio and with the Audiophile, glad to hear your happy with that. I have no feed back as of today on delivery other than the first week of April, guess that is past. I'll call my dealer and post what info I find.
  10. Dodge SOOO does not have much more than a turd burgler pulling a honey wagon on the back 40. That is a fact.
  11. Gear Ratio and Tranny combinations will make or break your expectations of mileage. 4:10 and up are stump pullers in my book but when you stretch your legs on the hwy 3:73 will be the big winner. My 3rd F350 will again be 3:73 and 6spd manual, the '99 and '05 are proven misers compared to others.
  12. So can one assume that city driving will be a filter killer? Seems to make since to me. Short trips will create more soot due to cold engine conditions and never really get to "burn it out" once up to temp because you are shutting it down at that point. How long has the 2007 Fuel been in production? I have some big travel plans this summer with the '08, there are times you don't have much choice when on the road and I have worried about quality in the past at some of the old (real old) stations.
  13. I just have to ask, exactly what is damaged if 500ppm fuel is used? Sensors, injectors, filters or what?
  14. I ordered the '08 F350 CC 4X4 DRW 3.73 6spd Lariat with a few extra bells and whistles after a damn hard time with it. The F450 is the best looking truck I have seen, the 19.5's are sweet wheels. BUT, 4.33 and 4.88 are way to steep for me and couldn't get anybody to bend the rules to get a 4.10. Yes it is splitting hairs but running empty 60% of the time I will be smiling at the economy, then I may need a napkin at 55 on the two lane when hauling, it was a calculated decision though. 80 MPH speed limited unit shouldn't be a problem with a 4.88 anyway, you may run out of RPM before you get there.
  15. Mr & Mrs. Anus with the crap scared out, hope it did not hit the fan!
  16. 50,000 on my '05 F350. Mine is a manual trans 4X2 3.73 dually CC so if yours is not we are not comparing apples to apples. I commute about 15 miles hwy to work daily, and average 17.0 + .5 depending on conditions running 65 at 1900 rpm. Pulling 13,500lb from 8.5 (head wind to Colorado) to 11.5 - 12.5 average, a little better if drafting a semi on a good day. Running empty on long runs 300+ miles 2 lane at 65 best was 20.5 over 600 miles with a tail wind, 18 - 19+ otherwise. Interstate at 80mph high 16's and 17's, again conditions play a big roll, head winds suck mpg. Toneau cover and 3.73 help, I think. If your concerned with low cetane fuel try Power Service Additive and follow their mix suggestions, may help.
  17. I have experienced the same dead climate controller on my '05 F350, infrequent at the most. Try turning on your running lights then hit the AUTO button, mine has powered up after that combination. Of course mine will not die long enough to get it fixed, so for now I am fine with this. Hope my '08 gets here soon.
  18. That is one good violin solo, would you play another? Lefty loosey Righty Tighty, otherwise you may strip the threads (FYI)
  19. I do not see the F450 Pick up as a commercial or fleet unit, chassis cab you bet, full body F450 nope. I do not condone the spinning of the tires but suggest the hooking of large trailers and not looking like a oversized cream puff when the b.s. stops.
  20. Maybe you dodge and chevy girls should learn that propaganda on a Ford site only goes so far. Oh, and one more thing about diesels. They Like to warm up a little before you rod them, they also are not drag engines, they don't like going to the grocery store and then back home before they have run for 5 minutes, just because they hold 4 gallons of oil doesn't mean you shouldn't change the oil at 3,000 miles (read the book), you can use Vavoline and then complain it does not run right when you should have Rotella, Cat or the like, if you have not changed your own oil and fuel filters don't complain that maint. is too high, I have 300,000 + miles with powerstrokes and know that a 3.73 6spd will spank an auto trans economy hands down, they do get less mileage when pulling almost any trailer, HELLO, you are pulling a trailer, yes they are comfortable inside with pretty colors and warm seats but guess what, you are in a truck and Super Duty's are actually made to work.
  21. F450's supposedly are going to be governed at 80mph. Not sure what I think about that, granted you really don't need to go faster than that towing the load this unit will tow, but we do run empty at times and do need to "RUN" !
  22. Thanks, hope I can find a few of those facts on my own, don't seem to find any local dealers that know enough to satisfy my desire to own one.
