  1. Then let me ask you this: Say a person is going through a divorce and they need to stay on the day shift for child custody reasons. Then through the shift bump process it ends up that that person can not hold days so they VOLUNTARILY sign off their classification to go to production (or wherever the came off the line from). THen sometime in the future the company post a job for the trade that they signed off of. If that person comes back into the trade they signed off of do they get all their seniority back? If I remember right they start with a new DOE. This should be the same for someone who transfers from another plant, signs off their trade classification, goes to production and then comes back to the trade. I am in total agrement that they should have preference over new apprentices or new hires from the street. and should bring their company seniority for vacation purposes. It is the same scenario as a person coming off the line into an apprenticeship.
  2. Sounds to me like they need to come up with something worth a crap and appealing to the other side of the aisle. Does anyone know of anyuthing brought up by the dems that is woth looking at? I haven't heard of anything since they took over in '06.
  3. I for one do not know these people personally, but I have seen my fair share of them in the lines at the grocery store. Something is wrong when a couple is walking through the store each pushing a cart and when they get to check out one cart is paid for with food stamps and the other cart (which is loaded with liquor, expensive meats, and all sorts of junk food) is paid with a big fat wad of cash that theypulled out of their pocket. I personally take offense to this. And as far as screwing the system, we have our own people in the plants that ride the medical system as long as possible (mostly because they are too lazy to come to work and protect their jobs). These cases are like any other case, all it takes is a few bad apples and the whole process is bastardized and screwed up for the ligitimate cases. Another good case is the calendar program for scheduled days off. The constant AWOLS screw the people who come to work everyday.
  4. We have 6 Tinners here at KCAP right know. Was told they are adding 2 on the 25th and possibly 2 more in October.
  5. You asked for me to cite my sources. I did. Two of my sources are reputable news agencies and the other is form there very own web site. What more do you want. I do n ot totally agree with McCain. But I have not foound a single thing that I agree with Obama on. Wait, ther is one thing. He says he is for change. I will agree with that since that is all I will have left in my pocket when he gets through taxing me to death to fund all of the LIBERAL give away programs he believes. Like I said, I don't always agree with McCain, but at least I will still be able to earn a decent living for my family without share with the whole commune.
  6. I hope this is good enough. If not let me know, I will find more CASTRO: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington...ama-castro.html CPUSA: http://avideditor.wordpress.com/2008/08/12...d-barack-obama/ HAMAS: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/04/020315.php
  7. You wouldn't vote for McCain, but you will vote for someone who is endorsed Hamas, Louis Farakan, Fidel Castro and the communist party of america? Makes sense to me, NOT!!!!!!!
  8. Yeah, WE NEED MORE HYBRIDS and fuel efficient GOOD LOOKING cars, especially the ones with 6' & 8' beds.
  9. The facts were not ignored. If you do some research you will find that what "xr7g428" posted was correct. Take a look at this link to see for yourself. Notice that the chart is talking about "MARGINAL" rates only.
  10. Racism has nothing to do with it. He is unelectable because nobody knows what he stands for.
  11. I HOPE YOU ARE A SALARIED PERSON. I WOULD BE ASHAMED OF MYSELF IF I WERE HOURLY AND LET THOSE WORDS COME OUT OF MY MOUTH.
  12. I sent you a copy of our lines. let me know if you have any questions.
  13. We had a system going at one time that we proved to the co. that we could save them about a third of the cost of a stronghold (plain box just shelves). We were turning out about three a day (8 hrs) This went on for about two weeks when one of the bosses he was going to pull our welder away from us for some phoney breakdowns. next thing you know we are sitting in the shop "WAITING ON A WELDER" (we have all heard that phrase). The Superintendent comes back and says "Your boss says he can't get you guys to do anything. What is the problem?" Well, the rest is history. now we are lucky to get the specialty boxes and those are usually government jobs. With the knowledge we have in the tinshops across the co. I am sure we could get a system going to manufacture these items. I know a few years ago our toolmakers in the Truck Body shop got a new CNC. Then they started making all kinds of things and selling them to other plants. I have been to several of the plants either as a committeeman or FTPM Coord. and have met several of the tinners. I have also seen some pretty nice items on the floor when touring the plants. So I know there is a lot of knowledge and skill out there to be tapped into. But like I said in one of my last posts, it's a management responsibility issue.
  14. I, too, have had similar run-ins with bosses about "Failure to follow instructions" by getting a job done and then finding something else to work on to pass the time. But, like the letter of '39 states in the contract, "The Company has the right to run the business as they see fit". I have greatly enjoyed being a sheet metal worker. I served my apprenticeship through SheetMetal Workers Local # 2 here in KC and was lucky enough to land a job like this (thought I'd died and gone to heaven). There was a day when we would fabricate and install things like partitions for the bathroom stalls. Now it is less responsibility to just buy it rather than utilize the man and brain power we have in house. We have had a real hard time here lately with either the co. assigning our work to the millscabs, scabwrights (I foreget how to spell it), or them just doing it on their own. That is what I call real brotherhood. Keep up the hard work and good luck
  15. Level, Thanks for the insight. I appreciate you coming on here and letting us in on what the IU is doing for the trades, especially the smaller ones.
  16. It is the same way at our plant also. It has been my experience as a one-time committeeman and as a tinner that I have been hard pressed to find a boss that has an inkling as to what our trade consists of. Therefore, there is much less responsibility to just farm it ou to the contractors. at our plant there is as much sheet metal as there is anything else (except for column posts for the electricians to man, maybe)LOL. At one point we had convinced the company that it was much cheaper for us to build tool and storage cabinets, like the Stronghold boxes they buy. Then they were set up in stroes as a purchaseable item and now we make very few. Mainly the special order ones that they can't find in the catalog. Keep in touch
  17. I agree NAP. When a person lists the things they are looking for in candidate, it should be pretty obvious who that candidate is. Since the Dems don't support (and haven't given evidence else wise) lower taxes, smaller government, secured borders, school vouchers, strong national defense, why would it be suggested that I, or someone else, would not support the one that stands for those issues. If I stated that my positions (or beliefs) were; welfare, gun control, national healthcare, etc., wouldn't it be pretty obvious which candidate or party I would be supporting????? My point is that if you ask someone who they supoort and they list their opinions or beliefs, use your fricking head for once.
  18. In a lot of cases the latter does cause the former. If our elected geniuses would enforce those immigration laws and send them back home to wait in line for citizenship, we would be living with more peace than we have ever seen. Could you imagine what would have happened in the early days of this country if people would have come from other countries and sneak thru the border? Ther would have been an awful uprising. And the immigration laws did not exist to the extent that they do today. Our children are going to have it very rough in the future if we don't do something about it now. The first thing that needs to be done is an overhaul in the public school (endoctrination) system. When you can look in a history book and read more about Bill Clinton than you can Harry Truman, something is wrong. I would think that our history books should be getting larger. But they are the same size they were when I was in school. Our parents would not and did not stand for crap being shoved down our throats. But then again, the divorce rate wasn't near as high as it is now. So really, where do you start!!!!!
  19. I know exactly how you feel brother. Things have gotten so far out of hand that sometimes I wonder if this country will ever rebound from the tailspin that the AACLU (Anti American Civil Liberties Union) has put us in. The legal americans in this country should not have to walk around on egg shells worrying if you are going to offend someone or not. I think the thing that irritates me the most is the fact that this great country was put together with the concept of capitalism and entrepeneurialism and these socialist bleeding-heart scumbags we have in this country want to take it all away because "not everyone has had the same opportunity" to get ahead in life. If they would just stop whining and get their lazy butts to work every day, they WOULD have the same opportunities. Now we have Obama wanting to "expand" the tax base with anything he can get his hands on (especially the budget for our military) and HillBilly wanting to give her $5,000 "BABY BONDS" (illegals included). And we peons will stil be footing the bill as usual not them.
  20. TN TINMAN, Isn't it just lovely for another "union brother/sister" to tell you that you are not needed? It just goes to prove my point that, given the opportunity, us trades (especially the small ones like us tinners) would be voted out in a flash by non-trades.
  21. If you didn't talk to the Chairman yourself to find out if he called up north, you need to keep your mouth shut and quit repeating everything anyone tells you. And if you are not smart enought to figure out that this is election season and all kinds of rumors get started just to see how far it will take or harm someone, GO AWAY. We don't need this kind of crap going down on the floor. If you truly are a union person, stop the rumors. The company gets most of their ideas from the rumor mill.
  22. As long as there are millwrights, we will be a dying trade. Here at kcap we have 6 Tinners.
  23. If you would read his post he said the Union told him he needed the ramp. He never asked for it.
