  1. Just got back from Europe - saw a Ford Kuga selling for $36K euroes - did not get the chance to see the options... As for 7 seats in Europe - they dont need it. 5 seat Edge is plenty and I saw a lot of larger CUVs - including a Kia Sorrento - exactly by that name. Also saw a lot of Nissan Jukes. Cute small cars are plentiful - but there is an appetite for a larger CUV.
  2. Reports of problems/complaints are going to be "louder" than those of us who do like the technology Squeeky wheels gets all the attention.... I am 1 week in - and I love the MFT. Dad has it on his 2011 - software was updated. Seems fine. Bro has 2012 Edge - his was updated seems fine. If Ford had super strong brand equity - a lot of these issues would be put in perspective as "being a leader" in driving vehicle integrated technology forward. Even the Apple iphone is not perfect and often flawed... the first ipad was... Apple has enough brand equity that people still line up in droves for the next release. Building brand equity takes time - and in time, this will be seen as testing ground - Ford taking the pain for other auto manufacturers. Once it is perfected, it will be copied in droves. Just like the BIG ASS MOON ROOF - which now appears to be offered on every other major CUV.
  3. I have my new 2013 Edge for 1 week - and I have the MFT with Nav. I love the set up. Is it perfect - no, but am I frustrated - no But I dont let tech stuff get to me. In terms of basic functionality - it works as designed. However - depending on your "age" in relationship to technology - it may not work as you perceive it should. Maybe Im lucky - so far so good.
  4. Well - I can vouch for the Ecoboost - you wouldnt know it was a 4 cyl. As for the wind noise and lack of agility, I find this Edge handles beautifully and is quiet as my 2007 was.
  5. My 2007 Ford Edge AWD was a great vehicle. Sticker was $44.7K My 2013 Ford Edge FWD is a much much better vehicle with a hell of more features for the money.Sticker was $43.7K I looked at the MKX - price was about $10K more - it was AWD, I wanted to go back to FWD for better fuel econony. The styling on the MKX is nice.. it was not nice enough for me to spend the extra cash. And I have access to A plan. If I drove around in MKX, I would feel like I was driving an overpriced Edge. Even with all the little extras - the branding is not enough for me to spend the $$$. If you have "deep pockets" - you can afford to drive any luxury brand you like. As I like to mind my pennies, it did not make any financial sense to me to get the MKX. After all discounts, and my trade in - I drove my new Edge off the lot for about $26K cash taxes in. And I am very very happy with it.
  6. I am the current demographic!! Mid 40s - established single person with $$ to spend... I still assocated Lincoln with my dad!! But I still want a cool hip ride and those punks can play on my grass anytime! ; )
  7. Oh man.. Luxury brand to a younger generation who is having tons of trouble in the economy. LIncoln still has a connotation that is attached to the Boomer Generation - the Lincoln would have to be "apple-ized" to strike at the under 35 set. I looked at the MKX, MKZ before ordering my Edge - and neither look as hot or young as my Ford SEL with SEL appearance pkg, Lincoln has got to be seen as a "dope" brand - I just don't see it happening with the styling and current marketing compaign.
  8. It has been about 5 days in my new Edge - first impressions: Sight lines from driver seat massively improved - I think my 07 Edge had too big pillars... Awesome ride and handling. Turning corners is a dream. The instant fuel economy gauge is a very neat feature. I use to maximize my fuel economy in the city. Still getting used to the feel of the Ecoboost - it certainly has the power feel of my old V6 - but to keep fuel economy in line, I need to keep my heavy foot off the gas from the line.. Thats more me than the car.. Higway fuel economy was bang on to the posted window stickers.. city is a teeny bit higher than posted - I think mostly because I push it ... Getting TONS of compliments on the colour and rims ... it is quite impressive.
  9. Is she ever!! Thanks Cyber D I am getting a lot of looks on the colour and rims... :P
  10. When Toyota built their new RAV 4 plant in Woodstock ON - they blatantly said that they did not move to Southern US because the workflorce there was not educated enough to maintain quality controls etc. Here is March 2012 on the upward trend of auto jobs... http://business.fina...oodstock-plant/ I imagine there is a lot posturing heading into these talks.
  11. Thanks!! I keep hearing about the driver's entry package not available in the US... that's kind of silly. My old Edge was SEL+ - so I am used to buying the "Limited" level of vehicle. Those rims are killer and sold me on the SEL pkg.
  12. I did set up a topic over the Edge section... this Edge styling is awesome!
  13. Back seats are awesome..very comfortable with 4 people and the center armrest down. Squishy with 3 in the back, but leg room is good. The one thing I can say is that both in my 2007 and this one - leg room is generous. I always look at the back seat room when I check out new cars.... its one reason I didn't get a new Escape.. the Escape seemed a little tight in the back.
  14. I started roaming here on BON when I purchased my first Edge back in 2007. If you happen to scan the topics back into pages 16-20, you will see some of my early posts. The forums were extremely helpful back then when the Edge was an unknown commodity. I loved it so much, and its been so good to me, I just traded my 2007 Edge for a 2013 Ford Edge. Wow, has this CUV ever evolved over 6 model years. Quite impressed over my first 24 hours. Ask any questions you like, especially those who are looking for a new vehicle.
  15. It sounds like the facts /estimates are as they are. I bet Ford wasn't complaining when that $79 per hour was discounted at 40% foreign exchange = $47.50 and in some years 60% ($31.50) The Canadian dollar hovering at par/near par - hurts our auto workers... that is a known fact here in Ontario.
  16. My brother works at OAC... So it was A plan, order was placed before end of May before launch of employee pricing. FYI - the story here, is that the Costco deal is dead. No longer to be offered.
  17. This is true... its either all at order, or all at delivery.
  18. DIdn't realize the US had different rules. However, I did get all cash rebates, plus 0%. on top of A Plan. I could build it on Ford.ca that way too before I went to the dealer. My only missing piece was the A plan savings.
  19. I don't know how often they change - but all incentives have expiry dates. I just picked up my ordered Edge last night. You entitled to the incentives at time of signing and ordering, however, if on delivery the incentives are better, you have the option to take those. In my case, I have A plan pricing, plus delivery allowance ($1500), plus costco ($1000), plus 0%. Currently out there - Employee pricing, $1000, no costco, and small interest charge. I know my delivery allowance expired before employee pricing was launched.
  20. Picked it up last night... Gorgeous!! I will probably start a thread in the Edge section, once I get some pics! Thanks again!!
  21. I was going to make note of this - payroll taxes that are statutory are expensive especially Workplace Injury Insurance. Unfortunately, automakers would pay some of the higher rates for the repetitive injuries that occur on the line. Would love to see how they calculate their number and how much of that falls on direct wage costs. The cdn $ being at par has taken away the 40-50 % advantage held through out the 80s and 90s. So the savings in the past have been eroded in recent years, but they still made money.. To quote Henry Ford: "here is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible" Take careful note that new cars are increasingly expensive, if their own workers are being paid much less... who is going to buy their cars?
  22. Just picked up my new 2013 Edge tonight... will see what kind of glitchiness I get
