  1. A point to ponder....since Edsel Ford created Mercury from scratch and it is seen as a legacy for the Ford Family...when they finally agreed to allow Mercury to be shuttered, it proves to me that the Ford Family is serious about the future of the Ford Motor Company....Mercury was the ultimate "sacred cow" and for them to agree to it's demise is astonishing. I have a warm place in my heart for Mercury, but as time goes on, it's continued existence seems more and more irrelevant. When Edsel designed Mercury...Fords were basic transportation and workhorse vehicles as was the demand of Henry. Fast forward to today, and with the advent of Ford moving upmarket, Mercury is no longer needed to bridge the gap between Ford and Lincoln and the Ford Family was wise to realize that.
  2. Why should Lincoln build an Acura NSX killer when Honda/Acura already killed it??
  3. I am surprised that the ACLU hasn't gotten involved in this yet.... :shades:
  4. Bu...bu....bu...but it is an aging platform that is over 12 years old, and the restyle sucks, and the interior is cheap, and the fuel economy needs to be better, and........
  5. Seeing as how you haven't bought a replacement as of yet, if the Ford dealership you are going to is also a Ford/Lincoln dealership, try an MKX if you pondered the Edge...this way you can get a nice bike rack for it and bring the mountain bike home on it...
  6. When will Lincoln have a performance line similar to Cadillac and its "V" series? Does anyone "inside" have any clues??
  7. Sully....she is kinda young for you....oh, you were talking about the mom
  8. Did Bob Lutz and Ed Whitacre have a "Freaky Friday" moment and switch bodies??? :hysterical:
  9. I don't believe that Kia/Hyundai will attempt that right now in the current market place in North America....they may actually try it in China first to gauge the reception....who'd thunk that China would be the new "proving grounds" for auto ideas.....
  10. You will love the Escape....my girlfriend is on her third one (2001 XLT, 2005 XLT, and now a 2010 XLT), she put over 100K on both the previous ones and had great service with them. She takes great care of her cars and the reward was top notch reliability. Each previous XLT had one unusual problem each....on the the 2001 the rear window wiper motor crapped out at 85K, and the on the 2005 the driver side power window regulator died at 90K....small potatoes and she enjoyed the ownership experience enough to get right back into a 2010. She commented that although they seem the same, the 2010 has a nicer overall feel to it and rides nicer too...I attribute that to the first two having Continentals and the 2010 having Michelins on it. When it came time to change the tires on the prior units, she put Continentals back on them since she got over 70K on both sets on both vehicles....a testament to rotation at regular intervals.
  11. What happened to the 4.4L Diesel? They were going to intro it in a new lineup of Mercury sedans....ummm, never mind
  12. Anyone got a connection as to what the Lincoln variant of the Focus will look like? Will Lincoln steadfastly hold on to the current naming strategy? Will they get rid of the "bow wave" front end and come up with something more elegant? Inquiring minds want to know... :shades:
  13. Bottom line here is simple....if the Ford family finally decided that it was time to bury Mercury, then let it rest in peace. She was a good brand in her heyday...but, it has come to finally send her to her maker. God speed Mercury....
  14. It was too little, too late.....May Mercury rest in peace....I know I will cherish my 1976 Montego MX all the more....was planning on a Milan next year....now? Maybe an MKZ, if they get rid of the "bow wave" grille...I liked the first iteration of it much better....I also liked the grille style on BORG's MKX.
  15. At least Ford is compensating the dealer network for the loss of Mercury instead of slinking into bankruptcy court and just plain sticking it in the dealers keisters....
  16. M.I.C....see you real soon K.E.Y. ...Why?? Because we like you L.I.N.C.O.L.N.......
  17. But you can't replace the "Titanium" label with "Mercury".....
  18. The progression of states is: 1. Denial – "I feel fine."; "This can't be happening, not to Mercury." Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of situations and orphaned models that will be left behind after death. 2. Anger – "Why Mercury? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to Mercury?"; "Who is to blame?" Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the company is very difficult to care about due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy. Any division or marquee that symbolizes life or energy is subject to projected resentment and jealousy. 3. Bargaining – "Just let me live to see a new Mercury Cougar."; "I'll do anything for a few more years."; "I will give my life savings if..." The third stage involves the hope that the division can somehow postpone or delay death. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made with a higher power in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. Psychologically, the individual is saying, "I understand Mercury will die, but if I could just have more time..." 4. Depression – "I'm so sad, why bother with Lincoln?"; "Ford Motor Company will surely die... What's the point?"; "I miss my beloved Mercury, why go on?" During the fourth stage, the dying marquee begins to understand the certainty of death. Because of this, the Mercury customer may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time crying and grieving. This process allows the dying division to disconnect oneself from things of love and affection. It is not recommended to attempt to cheer up an individual who is in this stage. It is an important time for grieving that must be processed. 5. Acceptance – "It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it." In this last stage, the individual begins to come to terms with their favorite model or that of their beloved car brand.
  19. I hope they get rid of the gawd awful "bow wave" grille on the Lincoln product....guess I will be buying another Ford Fusion afterall....not a bad thing mind you, but was finally getting ready to reward myself for being....well, me!
  20. June 2nd, 2010....another day that will live in infamy ....good bye Mercury . I still have my 1976 Montego MX....shes a classic beauty.
  21. I agree.....I was planning on buying a new Milan next year....<sigh>
  22. As I stated on the site; If they indeed kill off Mercury, let's hope Jill Wagoner will be telling us all, "You gotta put Lincoln on your list." if not click here
