  1. Just wanted to provide some factual information so everyone was on the same page. The new Interceptors from Ford Sedan and Utility are coming around the country starting in March with the first one in Atlanta then moving to Texas DPS. You need to contact your Government Account Manager to sign up to drive these at the "Ride and Drives". Officially this is the configuration Sedan Interceptor will be STANDARD AWD with base 3.5L V6 with EcoBoost as an option and FWD also as an option Utility Interceptor will be STANDARD AWD with base 3.7L V6 with NO EcoBoost as an option for Job1. FWD is an option.
  2. Wow thanks for that photo. I would have never figured that out on my own either. I tried it, your right, fits perfect.
  3. So I shouldn't use the bathtub cleaner Ajax anymore?..........LOL just kidding I dont think they are clear coated though......but you might be right. It's kind of a dull finish so thats why I was looking to brighten it up.
  4. Why would you ever want to disable the illuminated entry?.....its hidden until you need it anyway. It's your emergency entry method incase you need to get in without the fob.
  5. When a car maker wants to move specific model they may reduce the dealers price below invoice (and Holdback) if that dealer meets a predetermined quota. The car makers also drop the price to the dealer for older" new" vehicles on their lots. If the dealer is holding a bunch of leftover new 2010 stock while the 2011's are selling then the dealer can also get Previous Model Year Allowance concessions.
  6. I had a similar discussion.....I cant believe the sales people think the public knows nothing about holdback. Not to mention if the dealer sells a certain quota of vehicles then their ACTUAL purchase price goes down. I agree with you....... just be honest with us and we will pay a fair price Be dishonest and we are gone!
  7. Maybe true but remember the new Charger and the new Caprice are all more expensive then their current models as well. Whatever increase you see in the Ford Interceptors will be equivalent to the GM and Chrysler increases. Yes you can probably get a Charger as the cheapest Police vehicle but theres one major difference. The Ford CVPI is currently the only 75MPH Rear crash rated Police vehicle and so will the new Interceptors. Many Police Associations or Unions will NOT agree to putting officers into a less safe vehicle, just think of the vicarious liability when you purchase something that you already know is less safe in a certain impact event. If an officer gets hurt in a rear impact event while using a cheap Charger as the replacement for a CVPI I hope they sue the F$#% out of the Agency who bought based on cheapest bid.
  8. For those like me with the optional polished aluminum 20" OEM wheels I was wondering what the best polish is to bring these wheels to a nice shine. I tried Mother's Gold Aluminum Wheel polish and the Mothers Powerball polisher which worked OK but not super impressed. What are others using?
  9. I would suggest Highway Patrol type Departments will have nothing to do with the Caprice. Floor shifter, not column?........V8 engine?.....built in Australia? I watched it perform at LASD Car Test day at Pomona Raceway, it was embarrassing to watch it against the Ford and Dodge. Also the Interceptor Utility beat the Tahoe as well. The probable HWY patrol vehicle will be the Interceptor Utility with 3.7L 300HP V6, power with room to store equipment, and handling the same as a the Interceptor sedan. Ford will be doing Ride and Drives with both police vehicles in the next few months, make sure you get a chance to drive both as you will be very surprised.
  10. Did you ever try the fuse pull reset? When you called SYNC support did the Tech say yours was due for the update too? If you didn't please do or else they wont see the big issue that it is. I havent taken mine in yet for the 10B20 programming yet so let me know what happens. I actually spoke to my sales guy and told him Im putting these comments down on the after purchase survey. I think part of the PDI should be a complete review of the SYNC software to make sure the customer doesn't have issues and the software is up to date. It's totally poor customer service to make the customer go back to the dealer so quickly.
  11. That is a very nice system, takes care of the audio issues too! Im very interested but it doesn't mention price or where to purchase in Canada or the USA. Regarding the rear headrest video and the front SYNC screen. I was thinking the only way to get video up to that screen would be through an RCA cable same as the rear camera does it. What if somehow you were able to use an adapter that would connect the RCA connectors down under the screen next to the SD card slot and the 2 USB slots? Could you maybe come in from behind and tap in without disturbing the functionality or look of those RCA ports from the front area? Or would that always push video signal up front so it would override any other multi media choices the driver would want?
  12. You will be happy because the Interceptor Utility comes without third row seats standard.
  13. TCal I can advise you that some of your questions have not been decided yet. Ford Police Vehicle Team is working closely with their Police Advisory Board (PAB) to fine tune the packages offered to Law Enforcement. Standard engines and drive trains are not 100% set in stone at this point. I can tell you that LASD EVOC drivers who have been working with Ford on these vehicles have suggested the base vehicle be the 3.5L V6 naturally aspirated and AWD. Their opinion as professional driving instructors was that the EcoBoost V6 AWD is for advanced drivers and a lot of power for the average new Patrol officer. The PAB shares this opinion as well and has suggested this combination as a base offering. But the bottom line is Ford will decide how they package the vehicles as a corporate decision after listening to various groups including their PAB. If your passionate about these vehicles go the Ford Fleet Website and email your local PAB member with your thoughts because the PAB members do bring forward other officer concerns to Ford.
  14. Great ad! Good point about showing more SYNC features but the way Nelly comes off against the Producer is hilarious. Maybe show him punching the dash while he tries to connect his iPhone for the tenth time!...LOL...kidding
  15. My Cannon camera 1300SD has the SD card and it takes video in Mpeg4 so I shall try it and see.
  16. If you want serious sticker shock go to the Canadian Ford website www.ford.ca Build a full load Limited Explorer and see if you can stay just under $60,000can? LOL! X-plan and recent Canadian incentives allowed me to build it under $48,000 for everything but trailer tow package. Up here the units are so hard to find they are being sold before they even arrive at the dealer I couldn't agree more about the technology improvements and the comparisons to the other automakers. Just look at the 2011 Acadia and how old that technology is compared to whats in the new Explorer. Your buying the leading edge (sometimes bleeding edge)vehicle in that class.
  17. I would be really interested in that iPad holder with charger built in....did you have a link?......... please post it. Your right 3rd row makes sense for the iPad mount because I don't think the Explorer 2nd row headrests will take an OEM DVD system.
  18. One other thing on these great Explorers that needs to be addressed. On the interior rear drivers 1/4 behind the 3rd row seats there is the switch pack that provides the switching for the PowerFold 3rd row seats. The switches are not backlit and if its dark the interior lights do not provide enough light to read the switch labels. That switch pack should be backlit or is mine just not working?
  19. I took delivery of mine on Monday this week. I have driven on the freeway all week and around 70MPH its dead quite so Im hopeful the issue was fixed in Production. My build date was 2011/01/11 Only issues so far are with SYNC and its going into the shop for the reprogramming next week.
  20. There is no DVD player in the front navigation screen, just a CD player. To watch a movie it must be sent through a cable to the RCA connectors, or loaded on a SD card, or USB drive then you can see it on the front SYNC 8 inch screen. So you could take an iPhone or iTouch and run off the device to the RCA (Red/White Audio and Yellow Video) connectors if you want.
  21. I talked to my Dealer Service Manager and he says they have done a number of the #10B20 updates and had no customer complaints afterwards. He also says it is not 3 hrs, it's usually an hour in his experience. I'm booked in early next week so I will advise here when its done.
  22. OK Just got off the phone with SYNC Tech Support and after describing the symptoms the two of us are having the Tech said that issue is the subject of a TSB. TSB#10-24-9 Service Message # 10B20 Reprogramming of the module takes 3 hours in length at the dealer, cannot be done at home. If you read on the SYNC forum with 2011 EDGE owners this is what they were going through and after the dealers did the reprogramming there were lots of issues. I guess we have no choice? Also when you log into SYNCMYRIDE and you go to updates do you see an update waiting for you to install? Update BT4T-14D546-EB Version 1.1 The Tech says do it after the reprogramming not before.
  23. That what I did the "Master Reset" So we now will see what happens because if we both have the same issues its for sure a software issue. Anyone out there get an iPhone on Verizon today and try it with SYNC MFT? Im interested to know if different features work.
  24. Did you report this to SYNC Tech Support in Dearborn? I think we both should so they start a trouble ticket on this issue. I called yesterday to get my iPhone issue on file with them SYNC Tech Support Line 1-800-392-3673
  25. Hopefully WeatherTec makes a cargo liner for the area behind the third row seats because it extends a bit under the seats and would be great to use it for storage.
