  1. Interesting - I haven't heard this explanation before. Thanks! BTW - I don't have any plans of changing it, I was just curious when I removed it and didn't see a plain old paper filter like I had expected. I'm in MI, so if the batting even remotely helps with icing it's staying in.
  2. According to the owner's manual, it's "sat 2", not "sirius 2". Check out pages 368 (FM) and 373 (SAT).
  3. Just to be clear, the throttle body isn't pre-turbo, it's after the intercooler and just before the intake manifold. The air is piped from the airbox into the turbo on the backside of the engine, then goes under the engine and toward the front of the car. From there, it goes through the intercooler, then finally is piped through the throttle body into the intake manifold on the front side of the engine. You'll also notice that there are all sorts of insulating pads and sound dampening measures employed around the engine compartment. One example of this is the foam insulation pad on the underside of the hood. It's really only there for sound dampening - the hood sealing strips and grommets are all attached separately. I removed this pad from the underside of my hood and you can hear a bit more of everything that's going on under there (although the difference is pretty subtle), including the turbo. It's nice to have the pad there to keep the DI injector racket down, but it's really not that obnoxious without it and you can hear the intake/turbo a bit better, so I'll probably leave it off for a while.
  4. Weird... If you don't have your gloves on and you hover over a "button" (get close with your finger, but don't actually touch it), will the "button" respond? In my car this can easily happen. Maybe it's a reason why it'll work through my leather gloves (higher sensitivity)?
  5. I'm curious, what kind of gloves are you wearing? The gloves I've been wearing for the majority of the winter (a pair of leather ones or a pair of thin Under Armour liner gloves) don't cause any issues with console button interactions. Maybe I'm just lucky?
  6. You can check out the parts catalog for all Ford vehicles on the www.fordparts.com site. I drilled down to the 2013 Fusion and then searched by keyword "pedal" to find this information that seems to be the parts you'd need to get the aluminum covers: Part Name: Parking Brake Pedal PadPart Number: 2454 Part Description: 6 Speed Auto Trans 6F Mid-Range ; Foot Pedal Cover - Aluminum6 Speed Auto Trans 6F Mid-Range ; Foot Pedal Cover - Aluminum Price (MSRP/List): $34.73 Price (at my dealer): $29.52 Part Name: Accelerator PedalPart Number: 9F836 Part Description: 2.0L EcoBoost (250PS) ; Foot Pedal Cover - Aluminum Price (MSRP/List): $69.91 Price (at my dealer): $59.42 Also, FWIW - this thread is titled Moonroof / Interior Lighting Buttons, but the topic has shifted quite a bit. Something to be aware of I suppose.
  7. Before updating to 3.5.1, I had two options in the menu related to timekeeping (other than being able to straight up change the clock). There was one for something like "sync with GPS time" and one for "daylight saving time - on/off". After the update, the daylight savings time option was removed, but the sync with GPS time option is still there. I tried yesterday to reset to GPS time, but it would always go back to non daylight savings time. I'll have to try again today or tomorrow to see if the satellites have caught up yet.
  8. I debadged my car today (leaving the EcoBoost one, though), and like in RRF's case the letters came off quite easily. I was going to wait for spring to do mine, but decided to do it today after bumping one of the letters in "fusion" while washing the car and knocking the letter crooked. I just used dental floss, my fingers and Goo Gone on mine to get the letters and the tape/adhesive off, then finally buffed it back to being smooth. Here's a couple photos I snagged from removing the "titanium" lettering. After popping off the letters with the floss, the majority of the tape stays behind, looking like this: I then just rubbed/scraped the majority of this off with my fingers/nails, which left me with this: And finally, after removing the adhesive with Goo Gone, picking up the leftovers with some Bug & Tag remover, and buffing out any remaining stuff with rubbing compound, it's like the letters were never there!
  9. Wow really? The ones in my Titanium are definitely the touch sensors, not real buttons.
  10. What version of MFT are you guys on? I'm on v3.5.1. I read elsewhere that some people have had success toggling shuffle from OFF -> ON -> OFF. I've also read that some people had success with disabling Gracenote. Both are easy enough to be worth a shot if you're still having issues.
  11. So I checked in my car, and it does play the songs in track order when pulling from my USB stick. This is both if I let the song finish and MFT pulls up the next song, or if I skip to the next track myself. Metadata/organization details: Each artist has their own folder. In that folder, there's a separate folder for each album. Inside that folder is all the tracks and album art for the album (pretty standard). All of my tracks have their track name metadata set to the name of the song only. Artist, album title, track number, etc are all filled in accordingly. All tracks are named with some variation of "[tracknumber][separator][tracktitle].[mp3/wma/etc]". Some have dashes for separators, some are spaces. tracknumber in the above is not consistent between albums; some are 1, others 01, others 001, but within the same album it's consistent. I didn't have a chance to try any music off of an SD card, but if you're interested I can throw some of the same albums I use off of USB onto an SD card and see if I get the behavior that you do.
  12. Nope, definitely not. Different sidewall heights or widths can be used on the same size wheel/tire combo, though. Tire width will depend on the width of the wheel, of course, and sidewall height will depend on the wheel well it'll be mounted in. akirby just meant that from the factory, the outer diameter of the tires used on any Fusion wheels (16"/17"/18"/19") will match regardless of the wheel size, because Ford has picked the right size tire to make that happen. Smaller wheels get taller sidewalls on the tires, while larger wheels have lower sidewalls.
  13. Mine work as expected as well. Keep in mind there's a second click, if you will, to get the one touch up/down, that is pushing/pulling it past the initial engagement on the switch. You all probably already know this, but wanted to mention it.
  14. I've been thinking the same. Haven't really looked hard yet, but I heard that in Europe Ford has a hideaway hitch system that will fold up under the rear fascia. I wonder if we will get something like that here?
  15. I have the Ford accessories cargo mat in my car. The fit is great and it provides a good sized lip to hold in any debris or liquids. It's made of a thermoplastic material that isn't really rubber and isn't really plastic - it's something in-between. My only concern with it is that it may not be very puncture resistance, due to the lightweight nature of the material it's made of.
  16. I have them on my car. The fronts are a bit small, while the backs are a respectable size. They are made of a really nice rubbery plastic material that is formed very nicely to the bodywork. Installation was a breeze (uses all existing holes), except for one screw/bolt on either front guard that is really awkward to get a driver on. I haven't noticed a difference in noise levels, but then again I have winter wheels/tires on and those are noticeably noisier than the stock ContiProContacts on the Titanium 2.0L, so if there is a difference from the guards it's a small one (can't imagine it changes much). Some road gunk still gets thrown on the side of the car when turning, as my winter rolling stock sits out a touch farther than the factory wheels/tires, but the guards definitely help keep it down.
  17. I tend to use sport mode the same way . If you just drop the gear selector in "S" and don't touch the paddles, it'll still do its auto-trans thing. Personally I don't like the way it shifts on its own when in sport, so I usually only use the "S" selector if I want to shift myself with the paddles. As for the upshifting, I read somewhere on here that you could do it, and when I tried it it did work. Granted it seems to be only in a very specific set of conditions, and any other time I'd get what you mentioned. Try it when in 4th or 5th, when cruising at a speed that puts you around 2000rpm (35ish in 4, 45ish in 5, if I'm remembering correctly). In my experience, that kind of engine speed isn't enough to make normal mode want to upshift, but it will happily do it if you ask it to (in most cases). Also worth noting, you can put the trans in 2nd when at a stop if you want to start there instead of in 1st (I've had luck in normal and sport modes). Again, this seems to only work sometimes, so I'm not too sure what the conditions are, but it is possible.
  18. I mentioned it in the post above (parenthetically, though ) - I have between 3100 and 3200 miles on it now.
  19. That's interesting - I have about 7gb of music on a thumb drive, and I don't remember having any issues with the tracks on an album getting played out of order in my Fusion. I'll have a look when I get home today to see how I have the metadata set up on my files and will let you know what I find.
  20. You can still use the paddles (not sure if the same is true for the rocker switch on the 1.6L) if the transmission is in D, too. The manual control will just default back to normal automatic operation if you don't give any inputs after a short period of time. The paddles are more of an override in this case. You can in fact upshift if you want to, while still in D, but usually it's only to put the trans into overdrive when it wants to sit in a lower gear while cruising. As far as I can tell, sport mode really just changes the shift points. The trans will hold gears longer and downshift more quickly when slowing. It also seems to kick down a bit faster when given throttle input, but I think this is just due to the trans being more reactive to the throttle, and not the engine changing. Sport mode by itself is still fully automatic. If you then start to use the paddles while in sport mode, the trans goes into semi-manual mode, where it will only shift if you give input with the paddles or if you are doing something it doesn't like (leave it in 6 when slowing, it'll downshift for you. hold the redline too long, it will upshift).
  21. I took a trip north (270mi one way) for the weekend to do some snowboarding, and was sure to monitor gas usage on the trip. On the way up, the roads were wet, temps were in the upper 20's, and I was driving between 70 and 72mph. My average bounced between 30 and 31mpg until the roads got snow covered, and dropped to 29.5mpg as I pulled into the driveway at my destination. On the way back, the roads were dry, temps were in the low 30's, and again I was driving 70-72mph on the freeway. As I pulled into home, the reading on the dash was 30.1mpg. Overall, I'm pleased with my mileage (as I've said before). The car has hit the city estimates for me from day one, and my highway mileage has been getting better with each trip (car now has 3100mi). 29-30mpg is totally reasonable in my mind for winter conditions, winter tires, and freeway speeds. Once I have the summer rubber back on there and the temps warm up, it's no question in my mind that the car will be able to hit the EPA estimates.
  22. I agree, it looks to be well made and a simple install (just drop the old muffler and add this guy, looks to even use the existing hangers). It does sound pretty good, for a youtube video at least. Definitely seems to have more of a growl/rumble to it than the stock setup. Naturally the videos won't really give you a good opinion of what it would sound like when actually driving it, but at least it gives you an idea. I'm tempted to stop by MRT to see if they have a sample car with it installed to hear it in person (I live within 20mi of their headquarters). Personally I haven't really had any issues with the exhaust note in my car, except for maybe at higher RPMs (>5000) where you get into more of the I4 scream that isn't ever really pleasant. The stock setup has a pretty nice muscular sound IMO and is blissfully quiet at low RPM. I'd hate to have some annoying drone at cruising speeds if I changed the exhaust... That being said, I do wish I could hear the turbo more. I know it's just a little guy, so getting any sound out of it is physically tough anyways, but I'm hoping that some exhaust/intake adjustments would let you hear it better. I'm pleased with stock performance, but wish the turbo was more apparent acoustically from inside.
  23. Here's another option - a friend showed me this axle-back setup made by MRT for our Fusions. You can find sound clips of this one on youtube. I haven't seen any other options as of yet though, seems like the aftermarket is a bit slow to get going with the Fusion. http://www.mrt-direct.com/2013-ford-fusion-eco-flow-exhaust.html
  24. Did some photoshop work today because I was still thinking about blacking out the grille. I have to say, after practically seeing it on the car, I think it will be a great look. Having that consistency between the upper and lower grilles is a huge plus IMO. I'm not a Photoshop magician so I couldn't get the gloss black look just right, but it turned out close enough to give me a good idea.
  25. A quick google search gives me this: link. Would be nice to confirm with an owner though.
