According to the tracking site, the mustang was built last Friday and is now awaiting shipment.

When the dealer told me "4 to 6 weeks," I turned to my wife and said, "I wonder if he'd take bets on that?" I knew that there was no way it could be as little as 4 weeks. My guess at the time was 8 weeks, and it looks right now that 9 weeks is a better guess. And mine doesn't have any of the stuff required to be done off-site.

That would mean they would have been about 5 months into the 1942 model year, and yet I don't recall seeing any 1942 cars at car shows or anything. I'm sure car production continued, because they were used in the war effort. My first car was a 1941 Chevy I bought in 1966 for $65. I don't think I've ever seen a 1942 in person.

cph125, if everyone checked as carefully as you did, pretty soon the problem would disappear, I'll bet.

Our Fiesta looked exactly like this photo when we got it in 1978. The only option on this one that we didn't have was the rear wiper. Yes, we had the aluminum wheels, and while we never had a problem with them, everybody else had broken at least one of them.

Well, I DO find the front of the Mustang to be a little "busy." And it is traditional for manufacturers to go for a "family resemblance" in their cars. I'm just not sure this is the solution.

I seriously tried to convince my wife she wanted a leftover 2015 Taurus instead of ordering her Mustang. She drove it, said, "Meh. Nice car, but no nicer than my 2011 Malibu." So Mustang it is. Surprised to hear the Taurus appears to be on its last legs.

How many times have we heard, "It ran better than it ever had before, right before it nosed over and died."

In my 39 years of trucking, I have stopped and put out a number of vehicle fires. I always make it a policy to ask if they want the vehicle saved. (At least a couple of the vehicles were mid-80's Ford V6's, the ones that didn't have valve cover gaskets.)

I actually found the highway north of the Oregon border some of my favorite parts.

It was a nice little car, in spite of its foibles. Clutch was no more than an on/off switch. In about 70,000 miles, replaced the water pump twice and the heater controls at least once. They must have put really soft front brake pads on it; they were gone in about 12,000 miles. But it was very comfortable, and even the back seat was reasonable. The one I had had every option on it. And my wife's enjoyment of that little car is one of the reasons she insisted on getting a manual transmission in the Mustang we have on order.

Mine is saying in order processing and doesn't give a scheduled production date, but it does give an estimated delivery time. Like you, it's a good deal later than the dealer told me...but I never believed his estimate, anyway. It may be right. But it says you wont' have a VIN until you have a scheduled build date.

Well, if you go directly from where you are, yeah, you'll be going south, and that works just fine. But you could go somewhere else and then return home going north. Lots of interesting sights along that highway.

I used to have a tool box full of tools I had found under the hood after being in a shop. Some pretty significant. Loved my Snap-on torque wrench. Mechanics are human; it wouldn't take much to have an oil or fuel leak under the hood.

We ordered a triple yellow V6 with manual on 3/31 and have a 2016 VIN, so I hope it gets built soon. Didn't know we were ordering a unicorn...but I guess that's sort of a horse, isn't it?

One big problem is that most people don't understand what "freedom of speech" means. It means that the GOVERNMENT cannot put a prior restraint on your speech. That doesn't mean it can't punish that speech after you make it. It also doesn't protect speech in non-government controlled situations, and it doesn't protect the speaker from the consequences of his speech. Too many people think they can say anything anywhere and not suffer any results.

Go down the Pacific Coast Highway. As a trucker, I've been just about everywhere, so I can tell you great roads almost anywhere. Personally, someday, I want to completely circle the US on the roads closest to the borders or coasts.

My wife and I just ordered a new Mustang for her. Well, the order went in on April 4. But i just found this forum. We ordered a yellow V6 with the 51a package and a manual transmission. There wasn't one that matched that order anywhere in this district (all of Texas, basically). We live in the Dallas area. And we already have a yellow Ford. A 1926 Model T Tudor Sedan. Of course, it's a hot rod, so that doesn't count, does it?

Would you be impressed if I told you I had one of the original 1978 Ford Fiestas imported into the US? We bought it new from a Ford dealer in Burleson, TX, and drove it the next day to Massachusetts. It was one of our all-time favorite cars, and at least part of the inspiration for ordering our new Mustang with a stick shift.
