  1. Thanks Oval. ..and I should apologize in advance to KevinB. I did not mean to jump down your throat. Everyone is entitled to think what they want.
  2. As cheesy as it sounds (and flame away non-parents), I get just as much fun from my 16 month old. Of course, I didn't say I put every penny into a sock...we have toys, but we do not spend what we do not have either. We live a practical life and a very happy one at that.
  3. Straight into my investments. Not even going to look at it.
  4. ....ahhhhh...the Torino. THIS close to looking like 70's trash. But something....something saves it and makes it a classic. Love those cars.
  5. The Viper, while very cool, did nothing for the bottom line for many years now. It brought a lot of attention to the brand in the nineties when Chrysler had some innovative designs like the LH cars, etc... Lately, I'd bet many people didn't even know it was still produced.
  6. Yeech. Wow, it just makes the middle of the car look so ..............old.
  7. You know in many parts of the country, that's what people think of domestic vehicle owners? I myself, do not care what brand your car is. Do you always judge people by brand name? I've got a 800+ FICO, home free and clear, no CC debt and quite a nice paycheck 26 times a year. I own a Hyundai and bought my wife one as well. Its called being practical for some. Not everyone wants to waste money on something that goes down in value as automobiles do. Read "The Millionaire Next Door", not everyone buys a vehicle because of the emblem on the hood (or to influence what people think about them) and not everyone who buys a inexpensive car is "second-chance financing". I could not care what brand I buy, as long as it gives me value and reliability. I do have a penchant for Ford and Chryslers, but if they don't give me what I am looking for (which they did not at the time)...off to the dealer down the road. If Ford (or Chrysler or GM or whoever, etc...) had something I wanted and cost what I wanted to pay at that time, I may have purchased from them (a Fusion would have fit the bill if it was around then). Do I care if my neighbors think I have crappy credit because I drive a Hyundai? Nope, let them drive half of their paychecks around while I invest my money in more sensible things that actually earn me a return. I lust after Challengers and Mustangs, but most likely will not buy one anytime soon as they don't fit my family's needs. (Hey, at least I'm honest). Will my next vehicles be Hyundais? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on what's around when they have bit the dust. BTW, I've owned them for 3 and 4 years now (30K miles and 75K miles) and still have only performed maintenance items...no trips to the dealer at all as nothing has gone wrong with either of them. So I don't intend on buying for quite a while. I do have a V8 conversion Fiero lying around in the garage though.
  8. I could have done w/out IRS (especially for weight constraints), but it would have cost a bunch to re-engineer a live axle rear end into that platform (do they even have live axle rear ends at Chrysler in anything other then a truck for the past twenty years?) They did what they could with an existing platform in a very good amount of time. I think its one helluva car.
  9. This quote makes no sense. They specifically say the old Challenger was "too large to be a pony car" (ie. not comparable in size to a Mustang).... Now they complain when it (like its namesake) weighs more then a ponycar?
  10. None of us has driven a Challenger in the 1/4 mile yet...there's no telling what the production vehicle is capable of. If you think I'm trying to act "holier then thou", I'm not. I'm quoting real world figures for cars with the same engine on the same platform that I have driven in the real world. Not in the pages of some magazine in a prepro vehicle as others in this thread have been...if I'm calling out others as you stated, those would be the ones. What I'm saying (again) is don't go by manufacturer or magazine figures, because they have been quite a bit off for the same engine and platform in heavier cars. Wait for the real world. Well, you sorta said in one sentence what took me a few paragraphs. BUT, I'm not saying any car is going to be faster. Wait until the real world.
  11. reread my post.....let me quote it for you. 10 inches would be almost a foot as I stated. The width is actually almost two inches more (not a "few" as I stated off the top of my head  ). Note I spoke of width, not track. (Since you want to cut hairs, yes the track is a bit wider for the Challenger as well, neglibly noted 4/5th of an inch up front and 3/5th of an inch out back.) Heaven forbid should someone try and explain why a larger car might be heavier.
  12. They are both great looking machines. They took the best from each individual's lineage and made some fine automobiles. If I had my choice, I'd most likely get a Challenger...I do like its lines better. But then again, a year or so from now when we see a refreshed Mustang, I may change my mind. But I do love big steel. I should take those two picture you posted and adjust them in size and wheelbase to show actual size comparisons (if it has not been done already). I think the Chally is going to dwarf the Mustang. Not the best for weight obviously, but it will be one imposing machine.
  13. Are you guys magazine racing again? Wait till the owners have them and then see what the real world times are. Remember, heavier stock SRT8's Chargers, 300's and Magnum are hitting low 13's and high 12's regardless of what is advertised. Modded ones are doing low 11's with a couple in the high 10's . Not bad for a full size land yacht/brick/station wagon with room for your entire family's luggage (that don't have a whole lot of aftermarket support). Standard stock R/T times are generally high 13's. In the end, is a Mustang going to be faster tit for tat? I would hope so. The Challenger is almost a full foot longer then a Mustang and a few inches wider, hence your added weight. In the meantime, stop armchair drag racing and wait and see what really happens on the strip, especially later this summer when a manual tranny is available.
  14. You are right. Ford better close up shop because many of their products have equivalent products sold by other manufacturers. Those silly folks up in Dearborn!
  15. Good friggin' grief. Robert, please create an off-topic section this stuff (and all the other off-topic threads) .
  16. First MY...not CY. July of THIS year starts the 2nd MY with V6's, R/t's etc...
  17. Hyundai is still showing the previous grille on their main USA site and the Genesis only site: http://www.hyundaigenesis.com/ Edit...after this whole topic, I guess I could have read the article. The "Boring new grille" is not the production grille as argued over 3 pages.
  18. 6 speed manual is available shortly after launch.
  19. A few items weighing in under 9,000 lbs. Lets be real, the tow ratings for half tons are ALL overkill (9,000 all the way up to 11,000) The VAST majority of half-ton truck owners won't come anywhere near the lowest ratings regardless of the truck they buy. What does an 11,000 lb tow rating REALLY get you? A neat commercial. Just like HEMI horsepower figures really mean nothing to the average consumer except "it must be cool cause it has lots of HP". The marketing departments seems to have done their jobs well.
  20. I would think anyone buying an SRT8, GT500 or Corvette Z06 cares very little about mileage.
  21. Greenhouse/doors looks very 90's Lumina. Like the vehicle, hate the execution.
  22. Looks similar to the Jeep Commander second row skylights: The handles in the bottom picture is for a shade as well. Edit: In Richard's picture, you can just barely notice the large sunroof over the THIRD row as well. Looks like it will be a "Vista" type roof with glass covering the entire roof but the bracing won't be seen from the outside.
