jpd80
A lot of prices in other countries don't directly transpose to US prices. Also your US cars are way cheaper than they should be. For instance, a Chrysler 300C V8 in Australia retails for US$47,000 and considering local competition most buyers are comfortable with that price. The last Mustang GTs sold here by FOA's perormance division in 2001 sold for US$56,000 so no wonder we built our own GT Falcon. That's why we gave the Americans the GTOs for US$33,000 LOL. RichardJensen
This is a gray market import. Ford doesn't sell the Five Hundred in the EU.
Kris Kolman
Devil's in the details... Europe has HUGE taxes on cars... It can nearly double a car of the Five-Hundred's size in England, where they have graduated taxes for the amount of CO2 emissions. Another thing is how much curency protection the auto company puts into the product. Auto companies will add extra margin to the MSRP protect themselves for the guess at currency fluctuation the the upcomming year. And lastly it depends on if it is a true import, or a grey import... Is it auto company as a whole doing the certification/modifications/importation, or is the individual dealer doing it themselves. Just like when you go to COSTCO and get that great deal on toilet paper for the year, buying in bulk brings down the cost. The Aussi was a great example where the certification and LHD-to-RHD mods were done on the side by a speciality company with a tiny dealer network. If it was done by Ford as part of company plan to send Mustang's "Down Under" the cost would have been 1/2 as expensive.
