Gentlemen,

Thanx in advance for your time and help!

Could you track my new Mustang?

VIN = 1ZVHT82H685164036 - I'm told it's been built but is stuck at the "upfitters".

(Also: Is there a way to just forget the upfitter and get it sent? - the were going to install bluetooth and Sirius, but I can get it done aftermarket...)

THANX again.

best,

Dave

Sorry, I need the VIN.

Also ask the dealer for a copy of your DORA (Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement) and check to make sure that your priority code is not actually "99". That's the lowest priority you can get.

VIN: 1FAHP28W58G154019

One last bump.

Thank You, I am out of town and this helps. I am sure it is close by now. Is the old DOS tool CONCEPS? My salesman said they are trying to use another tool which I assume is Vehicle Visibility. Do the dealerships have access to Where's my car? They had never seen a sticker before either, would they have access to that? My salesman has been worried about losing this deal since they had lost another one because they couldn't keep a customer up to speed.

The info you have given me was a good tool, none of it proprietary, why wouldn't the manufacturer be more open, such as a web link for customers that have placed an order. Anyway, thanks again, it really helped the sale experience.

Is the old DOS tool CONCEPS?

I do not have access to CONCEPS, but I believe the system is DOS (or Unix) based.

My salesman said they are trying to use another tool which I assume is Vehicle Visibility.

That is the new, better system than "Where's My Car?". It's actually even more up-to-date than WMC on most days, and also contains rail/convoy tracking information. Which is why I suggest to posters to contact their dealer once it's shipped. I have access but I cannot disclose information from this system because some of the information is proprietary and this would violate Company policy. The system is also not "cut and paste friendly" -- the format is not condusive for replying to the many requests that I answer here -- so even if I were allowed to, I wouldn't be able to use the system for this service.

Do the dealerships have access to Where's my car?

That I do not know. If they have access to the Ford intranet, they would. But trust me, VV is a better system.

They had never seen a sticker before either, would they have access to that? My salesman has been worried about losing this deal since they had lost another one because they couldn't keep a customer up to speed.

Probably not in the pre-build stage. Vehicle operations needs to send the file to the plant so that the Monroney sticker (and all the other stickers that are unique to your car like shipping labels, you door jamb label, etc) can be printed to be ready to put on your car as it goes down the line. Which is why you have to wait until the blend date to get the window label -- because it's almost time for your car to go down the line.

That said,

Regulations specify that each dealer is required to maintain the labels containing this information on each new passenger motor vehicle it receives until the vehicle's first retail sale. If a label becomes damaged so that the information it contains is not legible, the dealer must replace it with an identical, undamaged label. Dealers may order replacement labels through the duplicate label function in Concepts. Additionally, dealers are required to ensure the labels are not obscured but remain visible to consumers.

Meaning, AFTER your purchase the dealer can order and print duplicate replacement labels.

The info you have given me was a good tool, none of it proprietary, why wouldn't the manufacturer be more open, such as a web link for customers that have placed an order.

While I would prefer that there was some web-based self-help system the consumer could utilize, I can also understand why the company does not, such as:

  • Contrary to common belief (or natural reasoning), the dealer, not the consumer, is Ford's direct customer. Keeping customers in the loop is the dealer's job, and quite often don't like getting flanked by a service such as this (as illustrated by your own salesman's fears).
  • People that are not familiar with the automotive industry can often be quick to panic when it appears to them (rightly or wrongly) that something is awry. Sometimes a little information without backup explanation can actually elevate people's anxiety (as can be seen on this board often).
