Paul Selby
Ford doesn't seem to have many rocket scientists running things right now either. I have never been a big GM fan and at one time thought this kind of news about GM was funny. Now it's just down right depressing.

I have never been a big GM fan and at one time thought this kind of news about GM was funny. Now it's just down right depressing. Didn't anyone see this week Ford was downgraded by two top stock companies? Ford has no new or hot looking products in its pipeline, was the reason for the downgrade! Also Ford has had more executive flee top level, over GM. The problem is that Ford is smaller then GM so your only hearing about GM. What needed to be noticed about Feb sales is that 43% of sales for that mouth was to fleet, where only 24% on the GM side. So lets hope that rental companies always want more Ford product. For every negative you mention about Ford I can find one about GM. By the way, you hear quite alot about Ford. However, GM is easier to pick on right now because they had huge losses in '05. Yup, but GM has new, NEW product coming out Ford only has face lift product on its way. The Navi is already getting a facelift because of bad press at the Chicago autoshow. Kool_ZX3
GM has new product coming yes but their not all that great, low volume vehicles that make little to no profit. GM has some good vehicles here now but their marketed horribly and can't stop the bleeding and huge losses they keep incuring. You can have product hit after product hit but if you can't make money.... it won't help. The quality of some of their new vehicles is also still poor where ford seems to have picked it up on all their new models. GM basically bet the bank on the gmt 900 suv which to me is a big mistake....... Ford has some excellent product here now and some more nice stuff coming in key areas that are hot and might actually sell enough to make some dough unlike GM which can't seem to get anything right at all, plus they their #1 supplier has a strike looming over their heads Edited March 17, 2006 by Kool_ZX3
Paul Selby
Didn't anyone see this week Ford was downgraded by two top stock companies? I remember the first time Ford and GM were downgraded to junk. Further downgrading seems to happen so often now that I don't bother to read about it anymore.

Morgan downgrade on Ford today was a worse than expected decline in SUV market share and the probability that GM's new pickups will take market share from Ford's F-150. The auto analysts seem to think that GM has more new product in the immediate pipeline than Ford. Ford really needs to either shave some weight off of the F-150 or make it more powerful to compete with GM's new trucks.
Kool_ZX3
Chevy's new trucks are going to be near the same weight or a little less then the f150, the f150 is going on a diet though and expect it to weigh less when it's refresh comes out. The gmt 900 suv's are near the same weight of the new expedition so the trucks should be close to the f150.
RangeRover
Also Ford closed at $7.93 today and GM closed at $22.22 that is up .72 and Ford only .08. The point of my post was to highlight the fact that neither company is doing all that hot. I don't think Ford supporters should pick on GM and vice versa. You talk about GM's product in the pipeline and bash Ford products. Yet, you don't address the myriad of structural problems preventing GM from making a profit. At the end of the day the facts don't change. Both companies are in restructuring and at a crossroads. To highlight stock price like that is misleading and so is comparing $.72 to $.08 instead of using % change. Market cap is what realy matters not the price of the stock. Ford= $14.78B GM= $12.57B P.S. Wait and see what happens to GM stock tomorrow when the market opens on the news of a $2B adjustment!

PFA
I think in 08-09, the F150 is to be redone, right. And isn't the small diesel soming it's way?

yamahaR1
Like George Bush would say, what is a billion or two between friends. Ford and GM are running their companies like our government. I think if you look at our national budget, we should also be bankrupt as a country, but keep right on chugging along. How can all the big corporations in the air and auto industry (parts companies) go bankrupt so frequently, but keep operating. Hope they can change things to get people excited about their boring products.
