joihan777
You guys have been on this board a lot longer than I have, so please answer this question because I don't remember the reason for this. (I think it's come up before) Why can't the next gen Mustang share its' platform with a RWD Lincoln? If the Mustang can hold its own in sales, it seems a low volume, high content luxury car based off a slightly lengthened Mustang chassis would be feasible. With a majority of the parts shared it seems the Lincoln would be profitable. Is there any reason why that couldn't work?

Well the Mustang is "cheap" and wouldn't have enough refinement to be a Lincoln. I find it hard to believe you can make a 20K V6 Mustang off the same platform you make a 45K Lincoln sedan off of and make a profit off the Mustang. The Lincoln would need IRS and making a IRS and Solid rear axle on the same platform would kill the profits on both cars. If they could make a Ford sedan in addition, they might be able to swing it... Edited October 18, 2008 by silvrsvt
jpd80
Ford is in the struggle of its life and needs top quality FWD volume products yesterday, it can't affort to be distracted by nice to have but still niche products like RWD exotics. I would sooner see FNA and FoE get volume products right and wait for RWDs that suit market needs.
