Trimdingman
If we keep reading Trim we will want to jump in front of a train Some people want us to throw ourselves and our families in front of a train. That is what we would be doing if we retire now, in this economic climate. The price of gold goes higher each day. This is an indicator of the real value of the dollar. The increase in the stock market is totally based on the decrease in the value of the dollar. Nothing is really changing in the fundamentals to justify this increase. It is just the government increasing the money supply. They hope that we will be fooled into believing that everything is ok and start spending money that we don't and will not have. It is like we are at the bottom of the food chain, and have to be consumed for the better good, which to them, is their survival at our expense. Well, I am going to look after my own survival. The collective system is breaking down. The system is to blame for the problem. It does not want to take the blame, only credit for what is seen as positive. It is being crushed under its own weight, but would rather see us all go under than give up any of its power.

Trimdingman
You should run for Jim Stanford's job. We need an economist who is not based in reality. Ok, so I am not being realistic. The economy is really booming, right? New claims for EI jumped over 7% in September. If the stock market was priced in gold instead of inflated dollars, it would be below its 2008 low. I am afraid that we may be into the early stages of the Greatest Depression. Maybe we can push it back again for a few more years, but it is looking more doubtful all the time. Real unemployment is around 20%. Government needs to downsize and cut taxes, but socialist U.S. is calling the shots, and they will not give up any power. It was socialism which caused the depression in the 1930s. FDR's policies turned a stock market crash into a full blown depression which led to a World War. We don't want to repeat that scenario, especially now with so many nukes in the world. It is time for the government to back off and let the market work. Too much manipulation and socialist government programs are threatening our whole civilization. We can't have socialist Utopia. If we try to be fair to everybody, we all will go broke. It doesn't work, as has been proven time and time again, and is being proven now. The government is desperately borrowing (printing) money to try and maintain what is unsustainable. It is a house of cards, and there is a storm brewing.

Trimdingman
It is the people who do not see what is going on who are wearing the tinfoil hats, not me. Check out the stock markets when they open this morning if you don't believe me. We are on the brink of another banking crisis. Will the government bail them out again, causing higher inflation than we are already looking at, or just let the chips fall where they may? The Black Swans are coming to roost, and no amount of wishful thinking is going to change reality.

foxrun
I think it is sad how little the out sourcing issue is discussed. Went to Coventry Rd yesterday and saw the Crown operation there.

We just voted 90% in favour of giving more of them up. We are on the line for 30+ years.

We are on the line for 30+ years. The writing has been on the wall for some time. Eventually all auto assembly jobs will be outsourced. The car companies do not want to have to deal directly with the union. They can let the contractors do that. They will be able to dictate better to contractors than a union that is answerable to the membership. We would be better off if we formed a company and made a contract to build cars at so much a unit, and shared the money. As for benefits, we could buy into group plans on our own if we chose to. Fifteen hundred hundred dollars per car would be around $700 per 10 hour shift per worker. They claim to be paying more than that on benefits alone, so they should go for it. Trimdingman
The union now believes in dog eat dog; survival of the fittest. If you can't cut it on the line any more because you are too old, get out to make room for someone who can. There won't be any more soft jobs for you pussies. If that's how it's going to be, then we should be cashing in, as there is no more dead wood to look after. The union will, of course be setting the example, also. Get your lazy asses out there on the line. No more lolly-gagging in the union office. No more holding your hand if you have life problems. Buck up and fly straight or get out. No more benefits; just cold hard cash. If we can't look after ourselves, as aduts, we are not the cabiber that is required here. Get out. The company already has an HR department, so maybe the company can get rid of them as the union is doing that work for them now.
CanadaSVT
The financial secretary went on and on without posing a question, only delaying them, causing annoyance and frustration until people started yelling time and stfu. I noticed the committeperson from paint waited for the line up to form before taking his place at the back of it. That showed some class and respect for the general membership. A few of you reps could learn from that. However from the tone of your posts you are too self important and thick headed. Best thing I"ve read here in some time. Can this be posted in the 707 reporter instead of having to read the same peoples names repeated over and over and over again?
