OK thanks, all the stories I was reading mentioned larger cast pieces but no mention of seat parts.Are any seats still built in Ford plants or do they go to another vendor first.

Maybe I missed something, all the stories I have read refer to cast magnesium parts missing. How does this result in seats not being built?

Looks like Ford is trying to get ahead of the curve, with everyone doing driver less cars, Ford is pioneering car less drivers.

Ask the person that you know working the door at walmart, or running parts for a dealership if they wished they had the job back that their good seniority earned them with all the vacations and benifits that went with it or making less money like they are now. If you are going to retire, retire. Otherwise hold onto your good job until YOU are ready

I think you can, depending on how long ago you left the company. Why is it wrong for a person to decide on their own when to retire? These people hired on when nobody wanted to work for Ford, history will tell you that when these 40 year plus people started the average seniority in production was 5 years. Condition were not as good as today, let them work as long as THEY want. PS I retired at 62, because I decided that was best for ME. That was 10 years ago because I wanted to.

The big change I seen in 35 years was the number of people wanting to work for Ford. When I hired in the mid 70s they could not get people, even asking hourly to talk to family and friends to apply. Hate to guess how many people made it to their first break and never came back. The few lean years were helped by SUB, but the good years sure made up for it. Read a book in the late 70s that said the average seniority in the plants was 5 years, got to be over 20 now. Feel sorry for the young people starting out now, can't start at 18 years old and have full pay in 6 months. My plant is shut down and being torn down, was lucky to get out with a buy out and full pension that pays as much as most jobs available today. If I could start over on the same terms we had then I would do it in a heart beat.

I think I see your problem, thought the problem was you and not your desk. Make an appointment (mid morning or mid afternoon is best) to see one of your plants carpenters. They have all sorts of spare desk parts, most could build a new desk out of their parts pile. If you have authority to authorize overtime use it for this job and you will get to the top of the list quicker. In place of overtime a bottle might get you the same result.

You should be OK. You made 6 months without doing anything wrong, keep it up and you will get moved ahead of those who have screwed up, in short order you should be a plant manager.

There is a difference between telling someone what the machine won't do and actually fixing it. Like going to doctor and telling him of a problem or telling him how to fix it.

Reading the history of the UAW I wonder if non trades should find another organization, since the UAW was founded by trades, to help the rest of the workforce.
