An interesting problem

Recommended Posts

So Maricopa county, the home to Sheriff Joe has done this.

http://www.abc15.com...-voter-ID-cards

PHOENIX, AZ - The Maricopa County Elections Department mistakenly listed the wrong date of the upcoming general election on an official government document.

The error appears on a document containing a voter ID card.

Things like this happen but only in Spanish? In Arizona? And in Maricopa county.

In the corner of the document, it says November 6th in English but in Spanish it reads 8 de Noviembre, the 8th of November.Election day is November 6th, not November 8th.

Yeah, I totally believe you that it's not bigoted and an attempt to limit voting by Spanish speaking voters.

Anywhere else it would be a laughable mistake. There it brings suspicioun...right or wrong.

I know I've seen the same thing in english/french here. I honestly can't see it being intentional, I mean how many people speak both languages? Somebody is going to read both and mention it. (maybe not "AHA, YOUR RACIST" like you, but they would bring it to the attention of the authorities...or media...)

Please tell me what else you know about Maricopa county. Thanks in advance.

Did you miss those posts? I'm well versed in the politics of MC. I don't think you want to go into all of it right now because it's rather long and boring. I'll give a short course.

MC has had a rather tenuous time with it's Latino citizens and of course the illegal immigrants since before I lived there. It is of course the home to Sheriff Joe a well known civil rights violator who's been repeatedly sued, is currently being sued and has several other lawsuits in the upcoming future. It's also known for corruption as political opponents of Sheriff Joe have been arrested, charged and eventually not found guilty. This resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars being given out in settlements as cases have been dropped and the prosecuting attorney was disbarred along with a subordinate. Also several of the MCSO higher ups including the Under-sheriff have been accused of corruption and resigned. Investigations into civil rights violations of Latino's lead by Pinal county sheriff and former GOP candidate for congress turned up that half of the complaints they were asked to investigate had merit.

Would you like to me go into the public tax dollar mismanagement, and how despite the fact that the MCSO violates the rights of American citizens Sheriff Joe is still the apple of the GOP establishment in Maricopa county? Let's not do that. You can see if my posts concerning that are still available on your own.

I was a resident of Tempe in my twenties.

Well known? Have any of those lawsuits resulted in a judgment against him yet? Has he ever been convicted of anything?

I've lived in Maricopa more recently than you have.

Our watercooler talks would go something like this:

1. Weather

2. Cardinals

3. Housing prices

478. Sheriff Joe

Sheriff Joe is much more important to people living outside the state than to those who live there.

No. They only convict in the public arena when it's someone who they despise. Obama and Clinton get the right to a jury. Sheriff Joe doesn't.

Yes, the MCSO has been found in violation of Civil rights before by a judge. Perhaps you and one of the conservative bobbleheads should Google it before you suggest differently.

Here's an ABC15 news report from 3 days ago.

PHOENIX - Maricopa County taxpayers are set to pay $3.25 million for the death of a diabetic woman inside Maricopa County Jail.

County supervisors will approve the settlement amount in an open meeting Wednesday.

The ABC15 Investigators were the only Valley news organization to cover the civil trial over Deborah Braillard's death.

After three weeks of testimony, attorneys for Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the county abruptly ended the trial and offered the settlement to the Braillard family to prevent the case from going to a jury.

A jury verdict could have been many times higher than the settlement because a judge ruled that the Braillard family was allowed to seek compensatory and punitive damages

Your a mighty strange type of conservative if i can say so. How can you not talk about this stat from the 10-16-12 Abc15 report

The Braillard case has cost taxpayers more than $1.8 million in attorney’s fees alone.

The settlement adds to the $25 million that’s already been paid out for jail death cases since Arpaio took office.

So your going to tell me that conservatives who rail about wasted tax payer dollars don't talk about the 5 million that just got added to the previous 25 million dollars.

And I don't want to forget the almost 100 million dollars that he's mispent and part of it had to be made up from the general fund.

Some how i am not buying that conservatives don't talk about 125 million dollars that a county sheriff has cost them. A single county.
