qwerty1
I have a 2005 Taurus SE with 90,000 miles. I was the primary driver until my daughter got her license, which was about a year ago. Up until that time, I got about 24 MPG and maintained the vehicle according to all manufacturer standards. In the year that my daughter has been the primary driver, the mileage has dropped to about 17 MPG, and while I expected a slight drop due to her driving habits, I certainly did not expect this sort of decrease. The car runs fine, and with the exception of a small oil leak (maybe 2 drops per day on the garage floor), it is mechanically sound. Is there something I should be looking at to determine if there is a larger problem? I appreciate the assistance.
akirby
Almost guaranteed it's your daughter's driving style. The other possibility would be a lazy O2 sensor.
Schpark
Still on the original spark plugs? My MPG on my 2008 Focus went up after changing out the original plugs after 85K miles. Edited August 22, 2013 by Schpark
YT90SC
She is probably buying the cheapest fuel she can too. Ethanol kills mileage. Also, you didn't say if it is a Vulcan or Duratec.
