Remus StCloud
Just took my car in to the dealership last month for a check engline light, of course right after my car was out of warranty (only 36k warranty). That time was for some type of vent line with the gas tank. Now, roughly a month later, im at 40,000 miles and the check engine light is on again. Went to autozone and they said it was for code P26B7, which they had no info on. Judging from google, it seems like it is something about a coolant bypass solenoid? Anyone have any info on this? Really not looking forward to taking it back into the dealership, as they charge a $99 "diagnostic fee" just to tell me what the problem is... Plus it really p*sses me off, this is the first brand new car i've owned and ive already had the check engine light on twice after it has been out of warranty... The last dealership trip cost me over $400....
akirby
What was fixed on the last trip?
Remus StCloud
I think the part # is DG9Z-9D289-G, "TUBE ASY - FUEL VAP," and on another part of the receipt it says "canister purge valve?" So if the current CEL (P26B7) is for a coolant bypass solenoid, i would assume they'd be unrelated...
fordtech1
You are correct its the coolant bypass valve causing that code. I am not sure if that valve is covered under power train or not. I would have to run it to see if its covered.
Remus StCloud
From what ive read, there is a TSB for it... But since my warranty was only for 36k miles and im at 40k, a TSB doesn't imply that it will be free, does it? The TSB is 13-02-15, but i havent been able to pull up any further detail on it... fordtech1
BTW did you ask the dealer for some assistance ? This iswhy I recommend service plans for the cost of a esp. It wouldn't take too many repairs to recoup that money plus piece of mind. For what its worth those two items are the only common issues for CEL I see. akirby
Powertrain warranty covers water pump and thermostat so there's a good chance the solenoid is covered, but you'll have to ask the dealer.
fordtech1
Save the $99. Go buy a BM5Z-18495-C. Have them replace it and reprogram PCM.. Say no diag just do this.

Remus StCloud
So if i go to the parts dept and request part # BM5Z-18495-C, that should contain all necessary parts? Any ballpark idea of what it would cost?
fordtech1
That is the part number off the tsb. You will need coolant also. I really don't know the cost of the part off the top of my head.
fordtech1
Did you buy your fusion from this dealer? If so ask for assistance first.
moosehead
List price is $51.56 It's $29.93 from Levittown. See if your dealer will price match on parts. Mine does if it's from another Ford dealer (and they are).
