foo
Ford has stumped me. Manual doesn't properly explain how to remove the tailgate for the 2017 F 250. I've found lots of YouTubes, but nothing seems to match the hinge on my tailgate. Here's what I am doing. Lifting 45 degree angle, remove straps. Try to pull right side out of hinge. BUT as seen in photos there is a metal bracket preventing me from taking the tailgate off the hinge. I bought a torque socket to remove the white plastic screw I thought was just holding that bracket but the entire hinge assembly was coming off so I stopped removing the screw. So I can't lift the passenger side out of hinge and so can't slide out of driver side hinge as instructions explain. If anyone can provide exact instructions on doing what should be really simple or refer to a web link or youtube video for an 2017 F250 I'd appreciate it. fordmantpw
Find a thief. They'll have it off in 10 seconds. I haven't taken mine off. You may try Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum on the 2017+ SD: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum279/
foo
Attached is owners manual. Very simple, you'd think. But they've chosen to leave out anything showing the passenger side hinge. Ford if you are listening/reading add the darn explanation sooner rather than later. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/vdirsnet/OwnerManual/Home/Content?bookCode=O32615&languageCode=en&marketCode=US&viewTech=IE&chapterTitleSelected=G1803231&subTitleSelected=G1893179&topicHRef=G1893180&div=f&vFilteringEnabled=False&userMarket=USA Edited May 2, 2018 by foo
akirby
Well Ford isn't going to have instructions because that's an aftermarket lock and it looks like it comes with its own bit: https://www.amazon.com/Gate-Keeper-Tailgate-Security-Trucks/dp/B004GEKMUE

akirby
Looks like it uses the factory standard torx bit. Take out the torx bolt, remove the gatekeeper and reinstall the torx bolt before lifting off the tailgate.
fordmantpw
I was just coming to post that I checked my truck and it does not have that. Looks like akirby found the culprit.

foo
SOLVED - The bracket/lock just had to be removed and no problem removing tailgate. Thanks for all replies
