Rob skully
so yesterday our 2019 GT Premium Convertible came in. The salesman called us to come take a look at it and take it for a spin. They didnt even dealer prep it yet. He put a dealer plate on it. We went about 5 miles out and back. When we had to stop at a few intersections we noticed a wicked burning smell every time ( we had the top down ). When we got back to the dealership we told the salesman. He said that was normal and it was just all the protectorant burning off. We have never smelt anything like this before from new cars we bought. Since it was late Friday it had to stay there until Monday when we can go to the bank and insurance place before we can take it home. Is this smell normal and is the salesman correct ? Rob ....
akirby
Probably correct. Sometimes there are stickers on the exhaust or other things that burn off within a few miles.
fuzzymoomoo
Its not super common but yeah it can happen. Like akirby said, there can sometimes be stickers or paint marks (for in plant quality check purposes) on the exhaust or other areas that are exposed to heat. Should clear up within a few days.
Rich B.
Agree also with afore posts. Remember my '69 roadrunner (kept a decade) in those days new exhaust pipes maybe every 3 years. So much oil and protectant on metal you'd think the car was on fire underneath the way it smoked at first. The only other thing may be disc pads dragging on one of the wheels. That would be a bit different with a heat type smell or parking brake discs not fully released perhaps (should have warning chime though)? How 'bout this- Do those even have a spare tire yet? The '13 Boss 302 had the compressor and can of slime. Mine has the full size spare now but very costly. More $ than a full size OEM used wheel spare, but it sits flat in the wheel well with jack, chocks and sockets underneath. Some of the guys have these 6" tall humps in trunk and have to let half the air out of tire to fit in at all? Oh the problem is the Brembo front disc brakes, too oversized for conventional Mustang spare to clear. Cargo net is great addition also if you don't like things shuffling from side to side in trunk. fuzzymoomoo
Speaking of brakes thats another thing that could be causing a burning smell. The rotors come to the factory with grey paint on them to prevent corrosion, so that could be burning off a little bit too.
