bzcat
I think this seals the deal on Ford eventually exiting South America, or entering into some sort of model sharing agreement with VW. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ford-motor-argentina-focus/ford-to-stop-building-focus-cars-in-argentina-in-2019-idUSKCN1MB3TE
passis
Sad news for us down here. It was more or less clear this was coming. The South American Focus IV was supposed to come from Mexico, before plans changed. The plant in Pacheco will focus on building Ranger, Amarok and possibly Everest, reunifying the factory. The sharing agreement with VW would probably come from a Mexican Jetta-based replacement for Focus/Fusion. I believe the next Ford model with size comparable to the current (and outgoing) Focus in the region is the next generation Ka family, which is expected to grow beyond Fiesta-like dimensions and cover a larger price spectrum.
twintornados
I believe the next Ford model with size comparable to the current (and outgoing) Focus in the region is the next generation Ka family, which is expected to grow beyond Fiesta-like dimensions and cover a larger price spectrum. .Ford has cars in the line that slot in between Ka and Focus......Escort and Figo. passis
.Ford has cars in the line that slot in between Ka and Focus......Escort and Figo. Well, Figo is the Indian nameplate for the Ka. As for the Escort, spot on: I think Camaçari in Brazil will make next generation Escorts hatch and sedan, alongside bigger EcoSport. And that, plus the Ranger in Argentina, will probably be all of Ford's South America production. Even the name makes sense as Escort is a strong name (the XR3 version was a hit in the 80s) and used to cover a large spectrum, from entry level car to "midsize" (local standard) family car. twintornados
Well, Figo is the Indian nameplate for the Ka. . Well, technically, it is Ka+ (plus)....the original Ka was based on a Fiat 500 chassis architecture.
passis
. Well, technically, it is Ka+ (plus)....the original Ka was based on a Fiat 500 chassis architecture. Well, I don't want to split hairs but I'm using the standard denomination of the car: Ka https://www.automotiveworld.com/articles/fords-new-world-ka-designed-built-brazil/. It has three generations. The original is the iconic model, whereas the second generation comprises two different cars (in Europe, the 500-based and in South America, the Fiesta-based). The third and current version may have different names (Ka/Ka+ in South America, Ka+ in Europe, Figo/Aspire in India) but I was talking about the large volume family car which will replace it in the South American assembly plant. I believe the next Ford model with size comparable to the current (and outgoing) Focus in the region is the next generation Ka family, which is expected to grow beyond Fiesta-like dimensions and cover a larger price spectrum.
