GM To Supply Fuel Cells To Navistar

A couple of things need to happen before H2 becomes a viable source for widespread transportation use. First, there needs to be a more efficient way of producing H2 from common items such as water. right now the common way to get H2 is from natural gas reforming which is cheaper than electrolysis of water. But, reforming also produces toxic gases that need to be dealt with. Second, there is very little infrastructure for H2 refueling stations currently, a fraction of how many more EV charging stations there are. Once we get the processes down to a cheaper and more efficient process AND build out an infrastructure to properly refuel them, H2 powered vehicles will still be the thing of science fiction. Not saying it is a bad thing, but it is still a least 1-2 decades away.
