mustang07
When I fill up my MKC the miles to empty used to read around 370 miles. I had the dealership perform an oil change and replace the air filter in December. Since then when I fill up it shows around 320. The miles per gallon has not changed (it's been 23.4 - 23.5 for years) and I've driven it over 500 miles since the maintenance was performed. Vehicle has about 25K miles on it. Any suggestions? Or is this something I need to return it to the dealer for? Thanks for any input!
Andrew L
That miles to empty is based on driving habits it changes on the fly a lot. My MKZ constantly changes on me but I usually am able to get around 400 a fill up. On a road trip from Atlanta to Tampa I got just about 6 miles shy of 500 and next time I filled up my Miles to Empty read a very optimistic 525 to Empty. Obviously that fell very quickly as I started driving.
92merc
I'm only guessing. But something the dealer did reset that algorithm to figure out MTE. Maybe just the trip got reset, maybe new firmware in the computer. Odds are it'll take a couple of tanks of gas to relearn your driving habits and the numbers will get closer to what you had. On my Escape, MTE changes after every fuel. It isn't always the same. But I reset my trip1 after every fuel. But I can see it vary as much as 40 miles from the time before.
mustang07
UPDATE: I ended up resetting my MPG and after about 5 or 6 fill-ups and 5 months the miles to empty is back to where it used to be. I still don't understand why replacing the air filter caused a drastic reduction, but just posting here for other's reference.
