Oldaarpy
My 2015 Nav has a liftgate problem somehow tied to cold weather. Above freezing it seems to work fine but on real cold nights it gets down right dangerous not wanting to stay up and sometimes will not stop coming down while trying to hold it. My 77 yo wife had to have a stranger help her at the grocery store so she wouldn't become trapped between the liftgate an the bumper. This could become a serious situation very easily. Has there been any recalls or safety bulletins on this. Thank you
Oldaarpy
I changed the liftgate to manual but it still operated as if on auto when the console button or fob was pushed. When the liftgate buttons were pushed while in the manual position the liftgate still went up and immediately back down and twice refused to go back up or stop when I tried to halt it. That sounds like more than struts (?). Edited January 11 by Oldaarpy
twintornados
I recommend changing the lift struts...even on powered liftgates, they still use those struts and when they are worn from age and/or use, they will begin to fail and the liftgate will come down. Same issue on my 2011 MKX and after changing the lift struts, problem was solved.
akirby
Start with new struts.
1999 White C5 Coupe
The gas struts are easy to replace with a helper. The left (driver side) part number is: 7L1Z7840611B and the right (passenger side) part number is: 7L1Z7840610B.
