It would take a significant invest ment to accomplish this and the company can't afford it now but it would be nice to see at least 60% of your ideas implemented in the next 2 year . . . . It doesn't hurt to dream.
JW
I'm personally a big fan of the 4.0 SOHC motor (and, of course, its predecessor, one of which I've beaten the snot out of for 13 years). If they'd put some real heads on the 4.0 SOHC and let it breathe properly, they wouldn't need the 4.2 anymore. Plus the 4.0 is starting to get an aftermarket following thanks to its inclusion in the Mustang lineup.

Come to think of it, that should spell the end of the 4.0 as well.
RaZor
Although I agree with much of the above, I certainly hope that Ford puts a REAL (if they aren't already) emphasis on developing extremely fuel efficient engines and have them available across the product line in as short as time as can be accomplished. Why? Because if things keep going the way they are, we are going to be looking at a real fuel crunch within a short time - that will make last year's prices (and even the fuel shortage of the mid sevenites - for those that can remember) seem like the good old days. Long term we look good with several alternatives and/or developments, but we are very exposed on the short term and there could be catastrophic results for those that only have a lineup based on 'powerful' engines (as opposed to fuel efficient ones). In short, many people freaked when gas hit mid $3.xx's (when oil got to what -- $80 +/- a barrel) this past year. Imagine for a moment, what would ensue if oil rose to $100-150 per barrel in a relatively short time. . . worldwide and stays there for a year or two. Will you be able to afford to run that 300HP sedan/coupe? If you can, then that's good. If you can't -- that's not so good, eh?
