  1. Who had higher incentives to move them out in prep for the new models coming out?
  2. That the same color I had..I'll have to see if I can find the photos of my Escort GT getting built the only thing that sucked on that car was the paint job..It oxidized really easy and I had to compound it every year to keep the paint from getting all fucked up. Aaahhh the days before clearcoat. Ahh ok I was thinking the 1.9L engine, not the 1.6
  3. LOL the Impala is a D sized car...WTF Thats as good as compairing the Equinox with the RX300  Please try again Chevy
  4. Uh The Tempo was nothing more then a puffed up Escort and the Taraus was too big for the current market..Ford was basically selling a D sized vechicle at CD prices, much like whats happening with the Focus. Ford split the market between the Fusion and 500 and will get the prices/profits they should the 1994-01 Explorer had the same frame as the Ranger when it first hit the market...and all those changes that made the Explorer different the the Ranger was to make the Explorer SAFER! lets convently forget how those early Explorers where prone to flipping and what not. Much of what was done with Explorer was done in the name of saftey Efficienty doesnt mean a hill of beans if they can't make a profit off the product they are producting there..
  5. I dunno what its doing in your neck of the woods, but gas is down to 2.83 a gallon in my neck of the woods...down .25 cents a gallon over the past week and half
  6. Becasuse up till 6 months ago Ford wasn't going to bring over the C2, the 2008 Model has been in the works for a couple years now. But the thing is that all your low end cars from Honda, Toyota and Nissain have drum brakes on cars. What would be stupid is not to offer Discs on upper trim models...
  7. I always thought that the LS series copied the MB S-class all the time...
  8. hmm: 2004 Aveo Changes I can see here for 2007: New Front Fasica, new door skins, new tail lights/ But wait! 2006 Aveo Hatchback: 2007 Aveo hatchback: Holy shit no changes at all! So Chevy's lets change one body style is better then Fords?
  9. Why the Focus gets as good as MPG as the smaller Aveo and looks nicer to boot
  10. Gotta love "high Performance" I4's...my SVT Focus MPG wasn't anything to write home about either, it was only 2 MPG or so more then the 98 Mustang GT I had taking the same route to work everyday. Whats so new about the Aevo? Looks like the old one with a newer grill...
  11. I think the most interesting thing to watch is the Focus sales when the car is redesigned...It sells alot to Fleets, but yet its increasing retail sales since gas prices are so high (but coming down till the next hurricane hits the gulf coast or someone farts in the mid-east) so it might be possible that the Focus will grow market share for a change instead of losing it
  12. I'm sorry but basing your views on just on your limited demographic area isn't a true representation of how well a product is selling. In my area, I see tons of Fusions and for example when I was at the hospital today, I saw a Zeypher and Milan in the parking lot... Just because its not selling your area, doesnt mean its not flying off the lots in other areas...and keeping in mind the Heromislo plant running at 3 shifts must mean the CD3 cars are selling.
  13. I dont think it was that early..I think it was around the 85 MY car..and it wasn't even true Fuel injection..it was a single Port injection with only one injector..the Escort GT was the first with EFI
  14. I dunno, I know both products won a lot of praise from the automotive press when they came out. The point with the Focus is that it was poorly marketed and the SVT motto of exclusivity and most SVT dealers being assholes when selling product, kept younger people (who the primary market would be for this car) away. Not to mention the ADM's that popped up on them at First too!
  15. Thats because the management from the mid-1990's till Bill Ford took over was drinking the SUV/Truck coolaid. Think about it...since the Launch of the 2000 Focus, what was Ford working car wise? Um Nothing except the new Mustang! Not till 2001/2002 did Ford have a clue to what it was doing with its car line up untill it decided to go with the D3 from Volvo and the CD3 based on the Mazada 6 to meet its needs for new cars, since waiting for FoNA to develop something would have take too long. I'm not sure if you notice, but since the D3 launch in 2004, Ford has seriously fixed its launch problems and quailty problems it was having prior to that. The only car that was worth a damn and wasn't hobbled from the start that came from the late 90's-02 Development time Frame was the New Mustang. The D3 was an adtemp to get a new car out in the market, though half-cooked IMO, but then again Ford didn't have much else they could do. the CD3's where part of Ford's new thinking and the upcoming products coming out now till 2008 are very much improved from their pre-2004 launches.
  16. Edison New Jersey, where building Rangers up till they where closed in 2004 or so Nothing left but a empty field with PCP contaminated dirt hills now
  17. Wow two tone car...something you never see these days...
  18. I dunno about that...when the SVT Focus came out, I remember Ford throwing out a figure of 12K per year sale of them, when in fact from 2002-2004 they only sold a total of 14K over that period of time. I'm not sure what the sales numbers where on the SVT Contour, but I'll assume they weren't great either. As someone pointed out before and quite possibily this was one of the SVT Foci problems was Ford was trying to sell a limilted production/dealership car that wasn't anything really super special or worth the SVT name, since SVT mission detracted what the typical Focus buyer would buy...they would have been far better off calling it GT or something and selling along side other Focus at all the dealerships, instead of making the car so exculsive at first. The Mustang has a hertiage behind it and its a "performance car" and well with the Lightning..it had a History and I'm sure out of 800-900K F-series buyers, Ford can find 10K of them that would pay extra for a performance model. I have to admit the only reason I got an SVT Focus was because of the SVT name and that Ford quit making the SVT Contour too. Unfortinatly for me I winded up buying total POS that I was lucky to keep running for 4 years before dumping it. Make performance verison of the Focus and Fusion, but don't lump them in with SVT, since that seems like it would casue more damage then good for their brands...
  19. My first car was my dad's 86 Escort GT...the photo you have up there is part of the 89 "reskin" I have photos the Escort Getting built at EAP as it was going down the line and it had a couple extra things done to it. Between my Father and I we had a 140K on it when I sold it right before going into the Army. I got out of the Army in 1997 and was working PT in an autoparts store while going to school. I was working one day and saw a familar site...the very same Escort I owned pulled up in front of the store...it was in really bad shape (you would be too if you went though 2 major accidents to the subframe) but was still running with well over 200K on it. IIRC the Escort 1.9L HO "hemi" engine put out like 100-110HP, my SVT Focus I had had a 2.0L that dynoed at 155HP or so at the wheels, a little north of the 170HP at the crank rating.
  20. Well given the situation that Ford is in right now, Fields got that as a perk for taking the job. Esp with no one else wanting the job And the products we have today where designed/locked into place right at that same time (with a 5 year development cycle) when Junior took over, thus he really had no input on the design of the vehciles etc..
  21. But people will still complain its rough/nosey/etc...
  22. WTF are you talking about? The 08 Escape has all new Sheetmetal from the Greenhouse down and even from some of the Employess at KCAP where its made, thats different also As for your MPG claims: Escape XLS FWD Manual 24/29 RAV4 Base FWD Auto 24/30 Last time I checked the Escape was still outselling the RAV4 by a wide margin
  23. Your forgetting that the Escape got a refreshing back in the 2005MY, new headlights, dash and the 2.3L I4 was offered in it. Also remember the new RAV4 offers a 5 speed auto where the Escape has to make due with a 4 speed unit and will most likely get a 6 speed next January. Also the I4 units in the Escape and RAV4 offer nearly identical MPG ratings.
