  1. All we're getting is a smaller version of the old GM, full of guys who think the credit crunch was the only reason they got caught out and still don't accept responsibility for failing to restructure years ago. These guys have had a lot of debts wiped away and get to keep doing the same things and it's all thanks to the American tax payer courtesy of Obama and the treasury.
  2. This time next year, the arguments about importing the C1 Focus will be moot, the next Focus is built in the USA along with specific derivatives and it wouldn't surprise if Transit Connect finally moves from the old C 170 platform to C2.
  3. Well, at least he's spreading a positive Ford message. Let's hope he gets on board the Ford band wagon and starts misquoting GM facts for a change........ On topic, His use of "world car" after Ford execs went to great pains to explain the difference says to me he's either a headline grabbing rag journalist or a complete idiot.
  4. There's nothing wrong with ordinary people test driving cars and having a website, On BON, I really enjoy reading people's posts and opinions of cars they've driven and I get a real feeling of connection with the vehicles being discussed. What frustrates about TTAC is the lack of balance which contrasts with conventional reporters because those journalists usually have consistent standards used to assess vehicles. Much of TTAC seems to be RF's my way or the highway opinion of vehicles, it's that view attracts the screaming minority of critics - I really don't care for them. Most people will accept the bland to outrageous in vehicles, it's the car buffs that really get polarized and the most vocal. The rest of the people yawn and wonder what the fuss is all about......
  5. The Fiesta report was actually one of Kiley's better efforts and full of praise for the car. Maybe we could give him a passing grade on that one.....
  6. A home run to bankruptcy.... Volume is less important these days, profitability is the word on every executive's lips.
  7. Sigh, Once again David Kiley stamps his misinterpretation over basically correct facts. Yes, the Fiesta has a single top hat but the US version is changed slightly to meet regulations. Unlike the "world car" global platforms were given input from all Ford divisions enabling enough flexibility to meet regional needs and specifications, something that was never fully captured by the Mondeo/Contour.
  8. The government wants its money back and to do that it has to sell it's stock in GM, a profit should make the GM stock attractive to other investors. There is a problem with the plan: 1) Buy GM 2) ? 3) Profit
  9. A surprising decisions hasn't been made public yet but D3 is more than safe.
  10. Combined sales of almost 16,000 last month in tight times would indicate otherwise, CUVs usually carry higher retail price tags (and profit margins) than sedans.
  11. A better plan would be to sit down with all three companies and have an industry agreement so that labor is the same price for Ford, Chrysler and GM. That wold stop the downward spiral in wages. Pensions/VEBA contributions would then become company specific and removed from negotiations.
  12. I said: Meaning they are already involved.
  13. Terracotta army - nice touch. That's really Old Skool.....
  14. Did they ever shout a you a trip down under? I recon you would have fitted in with the rest just fine.
  15. Crash test a Nano? This is what we're talking about, the crumple zone is your legs and spine.
  16. Oh my, that Mach 1 might even turn "would be Camaro buyers" into blue oval true believers..
  17. Probably in Dearborn as part of FoA's extended durability and crash test program.
  18. Edit, Just spoke to someone on this end, he said to me to think about the Sarich 3-cylinder 2- stroke like the 100 mpg carburator, you're going to Ford and telling them to change everything in the engine but your system doesn't pass the first test. Ford has limited resources in personnel and the time to chase down every new idea, if it's too much work to put right, resources will not be diverted. Maybe under different circumstances, part of the technology may have been made to work but in a strange way, I believe Ecoboost achieves all those goals without one quarter of the hassles.
  19. Fiesta is about Escort size, Americans are accommodating people but expecting them to drive even smaller cars is unrealistic. I think Tata is living in Bollywoodland.
  20. Are we going to see motor companies keep going back to unions in US and Canada. Seems like they're playing the UAW and CAW off against themselves and each other. How low will this Dutch auction go on for before the unions say enough.
