Ford quality improves, Toyota drops, Consumer Reports says
mustang84isu replied to ManFord's topic in Competing Products
Toyota's slippery slope just keeps getting more slippery. CR has now announced that it is complete rubbish. Unbiased and fair...hah! -
It's going to look like typical Toyota bloat. Basically, it will probably be a bigger Yaris, complete with bug eyes and that hideous grille. Best to leave it under the covers I say.

Environmentalists Targeting Toyota
mustang84isu replied to Sherminator98's topic in Competing Products
While it's funny to see Toyota get nailed for this, these jackoffs don't realize that there really isn't the technology available and implementing it just isn't possible at this time. They see the end result and all the positive figures (save 1.2 million barrels per day, save $25 billion, etc) but they don't realize that there is no way to get to that yet. If these guys are so adamant, then get involved in the R&D and find a solution....otherwise, shut up. -
The PT Cruiser became the PT Snoozer with the last refresh...the new bumper ruined the retro grille. For the next one, they should stick with the retro theme but make it more upscale looking. When I say that, I mean like the Ford Verve concept; that is some beautifully crafted sheet metal.

The real reason behind Ford's slumping sales
mustang84isu replied to sonofford's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I'm straight and very morally inclined, but I have a friend that is gay and I know others that are gay. You know what? It doesn't bother me...they're people just like everyone else except they have a different sexual orientation. There are FAR worse issues affecting this country right now than the "gay question," yet for some reason religious zealots always get hung up on that one. I was raised Catholic, but I am becoming more disgusted by the day with organized religion due to the blatant hypocrisy and bigotry practiced by some...moral majority my ass. God would have never wanted human beings to treat other human beings this way. No wonder fewer people are going to church and half of Europe doesn't believe in God any longer...the corruption of religious leaders is turning away those who actually HAVE morals. -
At 6'4", I couldn't imagine sitting in the front of that thing, let alone the back. It's cool, but it doesn't seem like it would be very accommodating to tall people.

Hopefully the Sable sells well so Ford will consider keeping Mercury around. Lately I have seen a ton of new Milans and Mariners...almost as frequently as Fusions and Escapes. I have yet to see one Sable or Taurus on the road, although I have seen a couple Taurus X's.
-
What? The Taurus update was in development long before Mulally arrived on the scene. And calling it a "pig" is pretty extreme for a car that is pretty much better than everything in its class.
-
It's people like Dan Neil that make me wish all the elitist, smug extreme liberals, hippies, and eco-terrorists would secede in their own little woodsy area of California or Oregon and form their own damn country. I'm sick of their pissy little whining. Half these guys that dump on modern society wouldn't last a week "roughing it"...no, a couple days without their Starbucks latte and they'd be crawling on their hands and knees back to the civilized world.
-
Looks like the Turd can't stay afloat on rebates any longer...sales down 4K units over July despite incentives up to $8000. The people that got one wanted one, the rest just don't care.
-
Hasn't Toyota passed Ford a couple others months back too? I'm just happy to see them down while a domestic automaker is up, even if it's not Ford. Anything to wipe away that smug grin they always have at the beginning of each month.

What's that? GM up and Toyota down?? Blasphemy! http://www.toyota.com/about/news/corporate...04-1-sales.html

Mercury to be Phased Out by 2011
mustang84isu replied to ExplorerDude's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I don't get why they don't keep Mercury and move Lincoln upmarket to compete head-to-head with Cadillac, Lexus, BMW, etc. GM has Pontiac, Buick, and Saturn filling that mid-range area; Ford will essentially have nothing unless they start sending Fords upmarket. Mercury could easily become Ford's sporty, tech-savvy mid-level brand...even the name fits the bill. -
The stock market has been doing this for the last month...luckily I'm in fantasy stock exchange so I'm not playing with actual money, but I've taken a beating since I got in originally July 26. I bought Ford at $8.80 and it has been plummeting all month, as has the rest of the market. With the value of the dollar weakening, the housing market collapsing, and consumer confidence down, I don't think things are looking very good over the next few months. But I have confidence Ford will pull through and this stock will be worth much more a year or two from now, and hopefully before that time I'll be buying some real stock.

TTAC needs to change its name to Trivial Trashing About Cars. The publication is a complete joke...they have no journalistic integrity. No one should give them the time of day, and calling them "unbiased" is beyond laughable. :reading:

I'd love to see someone stick a "u" in TRD. That name is just asking for it.

What the hell does SEL even stand for? I always thought SE was "special edition" or "sport edition," yet they get placed on the most banal and commonplace trims. So what is SEL..."special edition luxury"? For that matter, what do GL, XE, LE, CE, and all the other random trim names mean? Grand Luxury? Xtra Excellent? Lame Edition? Cheap Edition?
-
I like it, 6.1 seconds with a manual is pretty good...certainly more deserving of the SS moniker than some of the other SS's they have put out. The PT Cruiser looks like ass after the refresh it had in '06 (they ruined the whole retro grille it had going on with the new bumper), plus I doubt I'd want to be spending too much time in one of Chrysler's rubbermaid interiors. The HHR is far and beyond a better vehicle.

I think somewhere between mid 2008 and early 2009 we'll start seeing sales gains from Ford, but I'm also an optimist so we'll see what happens. We're still riding the downward wave from the fleet Taurus. Once the huge fleet sales are gone and stop skewing the numbers, we'll start to see some gains. I gotta laugh at Toyota though, they're pulling back on everything lately. I remember last year or the year before reading how Toyota was boasting it would have double digit growth into the next decade. Now they're also telling us the lithium-ion Prius is delayed...I hope GM gets the Volt out and embarrasses the hell out of them. Toyota is all empty promises anymore, they like to talk big but they can't follow through.

Thanks for the responses! B)

I know about the turbo I-4 and the updated 3.0 that will be making 240 hp for the '09 Fusion, but does anyone know if the Milan is getting the 3.5L V6? I thought I read it was getting it for '08. Also, when will the Fusion / Milan hybrids be released?
-
Wasn't the Milan supposed to get the 3.5L for the 2008 MY? I could've sworn I read it in something from Ford, but I checked the website and all that's listed are the 2.3L and 3.0L. I don't know why they wouldn't put it in...it would give people a reason to buy it over the Fusion.

JDPower Dependability Study
mustang84isu replied to range's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Powerstroke issues are probably what are dragging the Ford brand down for this test. Remember that Mercury and Lincoln don't sell that many trucks and SUVs compared to Ford. I'm anxious to see what happens when the Fusion and Five Hundred start getting included...I bet that Ford starts to rise up there with Lincoln and Mercury. -
Man, looks like Toyota designers were looking at an Enclave while attempting not to be too obvious. Once again, Toyota has no creativity in design...they take what others have done already and Toyota-fy it.
