  1. Why can't the new Lincolns be global vehicles? These won't be Town Cars and Navigators after all.
  2. For the most part people will buy great products - period. If they like the vehicle they'll come up with excuses if necessary to justify it and they'll do the same if they don't like it. Cadillac was deemed a "success" based on ONE vehicle - the CTS. Lincoln will do just fine as long as the products are stunning with the right design, style, tech and price. If they can get the Navigator updated along with the other new products I don't think they'll have any trouble beating Cadillac and in a few years will be challenging Lexus. All it takes is commitment and funding with no distractions and they have all that now.
  3. Much appreciated! This might be a record.
  4. I don't think there is any doubt there are issues with the 6F35 in the Fusion - not sure about other models/versions.
  5. Lots of people go way past the recommended interval on timing belts with no problems but it's a crapshoot. And if the 2.0 is an interference engine it will do lots of damage. It's not worth the risk.
  6. Happens every day. It's always a trade-off between delaying a product and fixing all the bugs. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. Once it's fixed it will be a distant memory. But you'll still be a troll.
  7. That's not hear-say. It's EXPERT testimony. All you posted was a Wiki article that anybody could have written with no verification. So unless you have some official Ford documentation my source is still more reliable. As for a 4R75 handling 750 lb/ft - read the two responses below - especially the bolded part that you didn't bother to read before.
  8. It was thoroughly tested you idiot. At one point they had 1500 bugs! The problem wasn't lack of testing - it was so screwed up that there wasn't enough time to fix it. They KNEW it was bad but made a conscious decision to go ahead with it, hoping the problems could be fixed quickly. They lost the bet and they took a hit for it. Once it's fixed (which I hear will be next month) then nobody will remember the problems. The fact that consumers are having problems understanding how to use it and are complaining about it is evidenced by numerous reports including CR and by the fact that Ford is giving dealers extra money to train buyers. That is a fact. That's all we're saying - at least some of the problems in the survey are caused by consumers either unwilling or unable to comprehend the system and how it works. I don't recall anyone here saying that was the ENTIRE reason for the drop. We're trying to be fair about it and give blame where it's deserved - to both Ford and some to consumers. It's the negatards that want to blame it all on Ford and that's just not accurate or fair.
  9. Where has ANYONE said there weren't legitimate problems? Nobody is saying that so get off your high horse. So let me get this straight - since the Edge and other forums and individual dealers only represent a small percentage of owners it is impossible to extrapolate from such a small sample to determine that there are a lot of satisfied owners with no problems and that a lot of customers just don't know how to use it? Please explain how your argument to the contrary is based on better data.
  10. Nobody said there weren't legitimate problems with freezes, crashes and slowness. But that clearly did not affect everyone. There is a thread over on the Ford Edge forums where lots of people report NO problems whatsoever or only very minor ones here and there. Based on Dean and other dealership employees there seem to be more people who don't know how to use it than people who are actually having problems. Either way Ford either has already or is about to fix both of the actual problems. There's not much they can do about users who refuse to read the manual and spend a few minutes learning how to use it.
  11. This is just a drawing, not even a real car and the designer doesn't work for Ford. It does look great though.
  12. How much have you seen/heard from Ford on ANY new products before they're introduced to the public? There is a totally new MKZ debuting next year - have you seen any press releases or concept cars or any official acknowledgement from Ford? This new small truck is at least 2 years out so there is NO WAY you'll hear anything from Ford about it now. That's just how Ford operates. So basically all we have to go on is conjecture either way. The question is - which conjecture makes the most sense? They're walking away from a market they used to dominate and where they have a current, modern viable global platform available (with modifications) and walking away from a vehicle that could help greatly with CAFE compliance in the future OR They're killing the current Ranger and closing the plant to save money while they come up with a new vehicle built on a shared platform of some kind (new T6 or new F150) I'd say it's 80/20 in favor of the latter. It just makes more sense.
  13. I'll ask my buddy if he was mistaken but he clearly said it was lb/ft. I would assume a Ford senior transmission engineer would know the difference.
  14. And exactly where do you think the local car stereo shop gets them? They just have a bigger stockpile of consumer units. And the OEM units are integrated into the vehicle and usually made to their specs - it's not like they can just swap in an off the shelf unit.
  15. What has he said "officially" other than the Ranger was being killed and the CURRENT T6 would not be imported? The rest was just conjecture and you have to realize that Ford is no longer tipping their hand on future product decisions, so I don't put much stock in those types of comments.
  16. Order bank was supposed to open on 6/20. Did you ask the dealer?
  17. I don't think the post limit will be a problem. 2012 Focus SEL Hatch 300A Ingot Silver Med. Lt. Stone Ordered 5/31/2011 Order # 3445 Dealer # F21449 Thanks!!!!!!!
  18. Compressed Natural Gas - sure - it's hard to keep anything compressed over a long pipeline, but you can send uncompressed Natural Gas just about anywhere. If you don't have NG it's because they didn't run the pipes to your area. In this case you would simply compress it at the filling station.
  19. In anticipation of the Ranger being killed this year. Not sure that would have been possible if they were planning to keep Ranger for 2 more years.
  20. CD3 and CD3s are Ford platforms. Just like D4 is a Ford platform. Who cares where it originated. Again - if it can be done without compromising CD4 and it saves money then I'm sure we'll see it. I just don't think it's mandatory to get off the CD3s platform right away.
  21. I'll take the word of a longtime Ford Transmission Engineer over Wikipedia or any other non Ford Transmission Engineer.
  22. Low sales, high incentives Required investment (at least new engines) Killing it now means they don't have to make any more investment in a dead end product and (probably more importantly) they can finally kill the 4.0L AND close an old assembly plant. It's gotta be way cheaper to kill it now than to keep it around 2 more years. It also lets them start from scratch with a new platform. You do risk alienating a few customers but a good replacement product will replace those customers and gain even more new ones.
  23. Because it wouldn't be CD4 - it would be a modified CD4 just like they had to make extensive modifications to CD3 to make it CD3s for the Edge and MKX. And they don't want to make any compromises in the CD4 sedan platform - it's too important. CD3s is not 10 years old and it could easily survive another product cycle if necessary. If they could pull it off without compromises and without a lot of extra expense then sure, they'd love to use CD4 but I don't think it's a given or a requirement.
  24. Which is exactly why I don't think Ford would walk away from it permanently.
