What's your favorite modern Ford color?
akirby replied to DeluxeStang's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
My 2013 Titanium Fusion was Ruby Red. Super sharp. -
It was detuned for FWD use and probably had more restrictive exhaust.
-
The biggest difference is it’s mounted sideways and uses a different tranny.

Ford Reports Staggering Loss On Every Electric Vehicle It Sold

I’m really just miffed at the blogs and news outlets that keep parroting those figures which people use to say EVs are terrible. -
Ford Reports Staggering Loss On Every Electric Vehicle It Sold
akirby replied to joseodiaga4's topic in E.V. Central
Please stop posting these ridiculous loss per vehicle figures. Ford lost $1.3B because of future investments and it wouldn’t have mattered how many Mach-Es and Lightnings they sold. Designing and engineering 7-8 new vehicles plus new factory designs along with new batteries and manufacturing techniques are extremely expensive and generate zero revenue. -
EV buyers want SUVs and sedans, not minivans or trucks, survey says
akirby replied to silvrsvt's topic in E.V. Central
That assumes 100% random participants and you don’t get that if you only survey people shopping at your website. You also have to consider the market at that point in time. EV trucks are far more expensive than sedans and SUVs. I bet if EV trucks were $35K a LOT of buyers would be interested. Not saying the conclusions are wrong necessarily just that there is too much bias in that survey to draw conclusions like EV buyers don’t want trucks. -

Not surprised at all. Edmunds has been clueless for 25 years. -

Slowest-Selling New Cars: Lincoln at the Top
akirby replied to joseodiaga4's topic in Lincoln Motor Company Discussion
Lincoln only builds what dealers order although they can dictate some product mixes. So it’s more likely dealers aren’t ordering correctly. But don’t forget price. Mach-e was selling poorly until they lowered the price. Things like that are temporary. -
VW Workers Vote to Join UAW in Historic Southern Win for Union

The problem is most of these jobs are unskilled labor. Physically demanding but so was digging ditches back in the day. In the open market these types of jobs just aren’t worth as much as other types of jobs requiring more specialized skill or experience. The union wants to force higher wages but the only way to do that without losing jobs is if you control the entire market - which was exactly the case 40 yrs ago but not today especially with a global economy. Thats why they want to take over the transplants but even if they do there are global options and more companies will simply move production elsewhere. It’s like trying to force $30/hr wages for fast food cashiers. At those prices it’s cheaper to use kiosks. -
Slowest-Selling New Cars: Lincoln at the Top

Yet Q1 sales are up 31% over last year and the new Nautilus is just trickling in. Stop blindly believing statistics without all the data. High inventory levels will I crease time to turn even with strong sales. It could also be driven by one vehicle. That’s why you need more context. The inverse is time to turn could be super low because you can’t get enough vehicles and sales could be very low. Or in stock vehicles are selling slow but many are doing special orders. Lies, damn lies and statistics. -

Now 1 EV Fast Charging Station for Every 15 Gas Stations in USA
akirby replied to silvrsvt's topic in E.V. Central
You are incorrect to believe most drivers in the U.S. can install home chargers. Older homes require service upgrades and a lot of areas don’t have the infrastructure to support it. It’s one thing for an apartment to install a few chargers and something entirely different to install dozens that would most likely be in use concurrently (and require rigorous scheduling if they can’t provide enough chargers for each tenant.). Readily available public chargers are a requirement for widespread adoption. It’s not physically or economically viable for everyone to charge at home. -

Ford Q1 Earnings Top Expectations
akirby replied to rmc523's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Don’t confuse gross profit with net profit. Every person on that 100 person skunkworks team plus the entire T3 design, engineering and testing team plus all the folks working on next gen batteries and platforms and future vehicles are an expense without a revenue stream. You're looking at a division that is staffed for and working on 8-10 vehicles (more counting Europe) but only selling 3 and developing new platforms, technologies and processes and building new plants (construction is capital but there is still a lot of expense). All of those costs go against net profit and it’s virtually impossible to turn a net profit more new EVs are on the street generating revenue and profits. -
