  1. I don’t hate it at all. It looks like a mutt of a vehicle. Reminds me of a Camaro, has some nsx in it among some other styling cues that mimic other sports cars. I’m interested to see it in person. However, I like the current C7 looks better so far. Also, “most technologically advanced gm” that’s scary for the first year buyers. As I was reading the technology details, electric brakes, first time GM uses a DCT, new electrical architecture. This thing has bugs written all over it. They may beat BMW as far being in the shop. Gm wants to be European! Not to poo poo on the whole thing. I think it’s cool they took a chance. Grab the popcorn and let’s see what’s going to happen in the next year.
  2. Hey I applaud people that want to do their own maintenance. Simple stuff like air filters, cabin filters, wipers, etc. Go for it. However, unless you have a lift and a drain buggy, why would you want to deal with an oil change. Most stuff now is extremely hard to do on the ground. Not to mention the mess. Plus, other than the satisfaction of doing it yourself and knowing it’s done correct, there is no cost benefit. Ford’s works package is very reasonable. Personally, I would find a place I trust and let them deal with the belly pans and oil runoff the control arms etc.
  3. It’s not German or Asian so the buttons will be atrocious according to car rags. Domestics always get ragged about too many buttons. If it’s anyone else it’s a piece of art dash design.
  4. It’s not the mistake. It’s the resolution that counts. A mistake that was just an oversight or a design flaw is one thing. Knowing that a problem exists and proceeding without change then trying to cover it up is pure negligence.
  5. http://www.metalrecyclersusa.com/advantages-reusing-aluminum.html I knew aluminum is easier to recycle than steel.
  6. Evidently there is an advantage to the consumer. Have you seen the full size truck crash tests? There must be some benefit If Audi, MB, Cadillac, Jaguar, Land Rover are all wasting money using aluminum on frames and on bodies. https://www.aluminum.org/product-markets/automotive I wonder how much cost benefit they do receive from being able to recycle the scrap aluminum from production waste.
  7. I don’t think those two are In the same category of problems. Granted the heads should have had more threads. However, the failure was much much lower by comparison and most of the issues were resolved with proper torque and maintenance. However, You are correct, it was an issue that should have been resolved 1-2 model years into the design. Not left to linger on for years and let the customer deal with it.
  8. Because how can they afford to give ceo a golden parachute when you spend money on products!!!! It truly pisses me off. Ford does this crap. They are such a yo-yo company. One decade they are up high. Next decade they are down low. It’s like someone with a bipolar disorder. They don’t learn. It’s next generation pinto.
  9. I wonder if they are subletting the design department to Lexus?
  10. I can understand that frustration. A few years ago we used to just back the trucks on the lot bumper to bumper to keep tailgates from being stolen. Even with the manual locking gate, they would be left unlocked. The electric lock is nice. Plus the keypad will unlock it Incase you leave the keys in the house. I’m very much a key pad fan.
  11. Have you checked it after the vehicle is undisturbed for 10 mins or so? The battery saver kicks in after 10 mins.
  12. That’s a true statement. However it’s nice to know a new filter has been installed during a service. They do have an internal magnet to catch shavings just like the older model with the doughnut magnet stuck to the pan.
  13. Ford FWD transmissions haven’t had a serviceable filter since AX4N/S. 6F’s. Don’t have a filter that’s replaceable without disassembly. ( a lot of folks don’t know that). Fortunately drain and refills are relatively easy. If you measure what you drain and fill back exact amount that’s about the easiest way.
  14. Thanks for the detailed review and comparisons. The name Palisade reminds me of the Parisienne Brougham. My aunt had one and that’s all I think of when I see palisade.
  15. You said the N liked to stack shifts. Isn’t that a the definition of the N verses the S. S is synchronized so shifts apply and release where as N is non synchronized so it’s just apply apply apply through the gears? I forgot about the sun gear breaking. Also was it the forward piston with the molded seal that would roll and bark the tires during shifts?
  16. Party Pack ® - converter, pump, valve body, direct drum, clutch tower, LPC and TCC solenoids, seal kit and revised filter.
  17. I personally have no knowledge or experience with new ram trucks. However, I find it interesting how quality is talked so much about but in the grand scheme of things people buy what’s stylish. Look at Audi, they don’t exactly have a blemish free report card. They turn into money pits, like old VWs and BMWs, but people buy them because they are pretty. When a regular car needs repairs, oh it’s a POS. When an import needs repairs, oh it’s German engineering and complicated. Give me a break. News flash, it’s mechanical and built on a budget. It will need repairs at some point. The question is whether the bean counters dictated cuts to mandate poor engineering. Cough: DSP6 cough
  18. Cooling was a big issue wasn’t it?. IIRC there was a fluid flow restriction. That was a 30k service trans at the longest interval. Adding an aftermarket cooler allegedly expanded the life. The oem cooler was one tube with fins on it and a radiator side tank.
  19. I can agree with that. However, for a customers standpoint. That trans feels normal when working correctly and can be “fixed” compared to the DCT. Fortunately the 6f35 has been updated to where the failures are slowing down for us. 2009 escapes where an embarrassment. We had 6F35s for months and no parts or units to fix with. Lots of tow behind rv units melted down. At least currently the 6f35 is cheap to build and has a party pack. Not sure about the 6f15, haven’t had much experience yet. As we have discussed, too much heat and too much torque converter useage. My 15 escape has that damn harsh 2-3 up shift, mainly when cold, but I’m waiting on it to give me a good reason to party pack it. 2.0 awd isn’t much of a party to do.
  20. Same experience here. 2011-2014 5.0 seem to be less troublesome than the 15+. I recall 4 ecoboost 3.5 with catastrophic failure.
  21. At least it has a real transmission. So far she really likes it. I thought she was going to end up with a Kia or Nissan or Mazda. Actually I was betting on Nissan or Kia since they specialize on sub prime lending. I had a neighbor that gets a new Altima every 3 years when it’s tires are shot and the corners are beat off of it.
  22. I think that could be argued either direction. During that time most cars were crap. The Asian cars weren’t really all that good, they just weren’t as bad. Ford did a warranty extension and people got them fixed for free. The powershift problem is that it can not be permanently fixed. It’s a design characteristic that is unacceptable in this day and time. Interesting point, I have a friend that bought a 2015 focus new and she hated it because of the trans problems. She got rear ended and the car was totaled. Fortunately she wasn’t hurt and had gap insurance. Her exact words were “I don’t want another Ford”. Last time I talked to her she’s in a Blue Ecosport.
