  1. What the hell. IT'S A WAGON FOR CHRIST SAKE! It is NOT a crossover utility vehicle. Its a great automobile...but call it what it is.
  2. I wouldn't be bias if Ford had not stolen $700.00 from me. But...I give credit where credit is due.
  3. No body bought it because Ford never put the time and money into it. 1998 should have seen a brand new Panther. Really the only carry over part should have been the name. Which is why Ford should have never neglected it like they did (which they are very good at doing). The Panther had a lot going for it in 1998...mainly customers willing to buy it. Like I said the money spent on developing the Five Hundred and Taurus could have been spent on the Panther platform and, I believe, they would have seen a lot of sales from it. But at this point...it is easy to speculate.
  4. Well of course it is going to get trashed when compared to the Acadia and Outlook. Come on... Besides...he really shouldn't be comparing the X to the new GM CUVs. The X is a wagon. He should be comparing the Edge to the GM CUVs.
  5. Ugly? What are you on? Low tech? You must not like the Mustang then. Undesirable? Well, you show me where you can get a new, fullsize, RWD, V8 car that has a ton of options, a 20 cubic foot trunk, that gets close to 30MPG on the highway and will run for 300K+ miles for $10,000-$15,000. The reason I bought my Panther is because it is extremely durable, reliable, and will run forever. Pretty damn important aspects when looking at a car. And personally, I put durability and reliability over what the car looks like, or interior materials. But because Ford has it's head up its ass and is run by a bunch of monkeys, this platform...that makes them tons of money, was allowed to be neglected. Ford, from 1997 to 2005 had the market to themselves which was a bad thing. With no competition there is no incentive to put ANY money into the platform. Had they did, they would have had a huge leg up on the competition. I think Ford is the King of the re-skin. Thats all they know how to do. If they would have spent the money that they did on the Five Hundred and Taurus improving the Panther, they would be selling. More efficient engines, more modern suspension, redesigned interior, more options, safer, faster, etc would have given the Panther the head start it could have had. And...what do you drive?
  6. Eek... I meant that your opinion doesn't count on this site, because you drive a Panther. And...for the record, I really don't think that a car that has been proven to do 600K miles of hard service has to prove it's reliability to anyone.
  7. I didn't mean it in the literal sense. God people are thick. I don't want you to hurt yourself...but think for just one moment: What kind of engine did a late 90s Exploder have? A (weak) 4.6 2V V8. Same as a Vic. What kind of transmission did a late 90s Exploder have? The 4R70W. Same as a Vic. What kind of rear end did a late 90s Exploder have? An 8.8. Same as the Vic. What kind of structure is a late 90s Exploder bolted to? A FULL frame. Same as the Vic. So, can you see where the comparison between a CV and a late 90s Exploder may not seem too far fetched? And learn to type...that way you might fool some of us into thinking you are smarter than you really are.
  8. Yes...it is true. And, since you brought it up...just what the hell IS a LTD? Sounds to me to be some sort of disease.
  9. Yeah, but your opinion doesn't count because you drive a Panther.
  10. I'll take that as a "No". Great job Ford...I wish you nothing but mis-fortune and hope you lose market share every year by double digits.
  11. You must not do a lot of research. I'll remember that next time you post something. Click this link and read what they have to say------->IIHS I have said it before and will say it again; unless the frame is involved, the Panthers are not very safe cars. If the frame is involved...they can take just about anything.
  12. Right... LTD has more of an old person stigma attached to it than Crown Victoria.
  13. Maybe they want a car that will go a proven 300K with very little problems. BTW...a 2.73 geared Panther will get close to 30 on the highway.
  14. I don't deny that. The Five Hundred was an extremely mediocre automobile with a mediocre engine. It had about as much pizazz as Al Gore. The Taurus changed that. It got the engine the FH should have had, it got the looks the FH should have had. Ford knew that the FH was lackluster...thus all of the changes three years after it's introduction. The FH did not sell because it was called 'Five Hundred'. It didn't sell because it was a joke. In fact, Ford's own dealers are confused as to what to call the car, some say Five Hundred and some say Taurus. AB Why the Taurus is seeing crappy sales this year is no surprise. Just look at the name. AB
  15. There has never been a Focus that is sold in the US with a I-5 Turbo and priced under 20K.
  16. Ford did not give the names a chance before they drank "stupid juice" and changed the name to Taurus. I would have much more respect for the '08 Taurus if it had a proper name. Not a worn out, neglected name. Five Hundred was that name. Ford just confused people by renaming the FH, Taurus. There was *some* media attention when the last Taurus rolled off the assembly line. People then knew that the Taurus was dead. Now, the name is back, on a car that is NOTHING like the car that had the name for 21 years. If the Taurus does not sell, blame the name.
