  1. Edge is outselling CX7 here BIG TIME (i bet 8 to 1 or something like that) and the CX7 doesn't get any better real world mpg than the edge. Said writer should just shut his pie hole.
  2. clearly, to me, the focus 8 years ago was a benchmark. my sister had one. but now, they have slightly neutered the car in the interest of making it more of an everyday / commuter type of car. the focus still has better driving characteristics than a lot of other compacts, but i think the focus has to upgrade in a lot of ways. styling- of course its old and it needs a new design, like possibly the verve. interior space- cars like the sentra really set the benchmark for cabin size in this segment now driving- VW's and mazda 3's set the bar here mpg- focus is good but civic and corolla are better i would prob put focus mid pack. its a good car, but i would never consider owning one long term. for two years while you need to control driving costs? sure.
  3. if not already, mays should be flipping burgers somewhere
  4. re: the 500. i think my expectations were far too high. a couple things happened since then...1. i test drove other vehicles and it reminded me of the good qualities of the 500 and how crappy so many other vehicles are 2.initially i was upset the tranny programming, since had that redone. 3. the economy and cost of ownership for what i got my 500 for have proven that for mpg, insurance, maintenance etc, this car is extremely affordable 4. drove the new taurus and look forward to the constant improvement 5. everyday more i grow to appreciate the functionality of the taurus....huge trunk, can take full car of adults to lunch for work, good mpg, safety, etc. had the focus for a week and now that i gave that back i appreciate the 500 even more although going to small and back to big is a roller coaster. focus was nice......25.3 avg on 300 miles (but was radically improving each day after break in). loved the radio and climate controls. nice car for a small car but was happy to give it back. too small for me. got around nicely and truly is a good car but there are so many choices in the compact class and the midsizers don't cost much more. more tomorrow.
  5. i wouldn't say 'disaster', however, the points you make are the same ones I would make. Volvo's biggest ommissions right now are hot entry lux vehicles and good prices.
  6. i have a BRAND new 08 focus to drive while my 500 is getting fixed. this focus for 08 only has one stalk. my 500 has a separate wiper stalk, which I love, and which the arses at ford changed back to one stalk on the taurus for 08. wiper on stalk on right is the better way to go.
  7. 3 days into it. still trying to think of what to report. i do like the new climate and radio controls. interior is not wide enough for two but so far its alright. i would say its a decent commuter car.
  8. NYT pics, there is one of the interior, and there is a new 52" HDTV in the shipping box in the back seat. COOL.
  9. GM has quietly loaded up the incentive hopper recently. example.....i just got notified of top of earnings on my gm card now I am able to get 3k for that. GM added loyalty bonus of 1k and i hear there is a GMAC 1k bonus out there as well. on top of some rather large rebates on some models.... ford, when push comes to shove, will drop prices if their sales tank. 2008 will be a tough sales year but the company that can maximize both volume and profitable models will come out ok.
  10. will have to look into that. thanks.
  11. my 500 is in the body shop to repair a pre christmas ding.... so i have a NEW 08 focus to drive for a few says. SE, 5 miles on the odo. I am the first driver. I'll check back with my thoughts, today's drive is simply adjustment time because i haven't had a small car for awhile. a couple initial thoughts....I really like the radio controls and climate controls. I much prefer the pre 08 steering wheel. I miss the steering wheel radio controls on my 500 already....!
  12. diesel was 60 cents higher per gallon than gas when i was filling up the other day. the advantage ceases to exist at that price.
  13. again today i cursed the locking on my 500, i got out of the car and tried to open the back door to let the kid out and duh, i forgot to unlock my own car doors on the way out. i hope they change this and soon. it is the one thing that makes me hate the car and pssobly switch brands next time.
  14. the hertz place i drive by often because its close to home should have hyundai and toyota signs, most of its cars these days are exactly that. most customers would confuse it with a car lot. Since when did TTAC ever make any sense or have any real credibility anyways?
  15. 95 tbird and shorty after along with that an 89 SHO. My brother in law got me into fords with his 85 Cougar XR7, 87 Tbird turbo coupe, and his 92 SHO. He had a 96 SHO and i had a 99 SHO. Now i have a 500 and he has a King Ranch F150. He had a nice ranger too.
  16. Ford likes to have a big showing at the chicago show. So i think its very possible we will see fusion news there.
  17. funny, so does mine! FWIW i had the tranny reflashed. but that won't effect the gearing/mph.
  18. i'd like a car with 6.0-6.5 second capability and good mpg. fusion does not have that combination yet.
  19. your story reminds me of what used to happen a lot in my 95 tbird in icy roads.
  20. mondeo looks great to whiners because its unatainable. truth is the aero design would not resonate hugely in the US right now. Right now, folks don't want anything that reminds them of the 90's jellybeans.
