  1. The new PI and Utility PI has yet to go into production. They will be 2013 models, and production isn't scheduled until sometime in January with deliveries late in the 1st quarter. Any Utility (or sedan) models seen on the street at this time are regular production Explorer or Taurus, not Interceptors. If anyone can see the VIN on a utility, look for the 5th, 6th, & 7th character - A Utility PI will have either a K8A or a K7A. The Explorer would probably be K8B or K7B.
  2. A CNG upgrade should cost as much as a Diesel upgrade, but as long as the government is handing out tax credits they will cost $12,000+ I don't ever see a pay-out for non fleet vehicles. An individual would have to be real tree hugger to go the extra bucks.
  3. No body code or order guide available as of yet. Ford still considers them prototypes. Will more than likely carry the same powertrain warranty that the P7B and all other Fords have.
  4. I'm seeing an equipped car coming in over $40K by the time it is supposed to come to market. That's based on current car pricing, the diesel engine, and the "custom" factory upfitting. I'm sure they won't want to sell a "plain" car, only one that is upfitted with equipment. As far as the "orders" go, what happened to the competitive bid process? The diesel will have no advantage over a gasoline engine with diesel fuel being much higher priced. The EcoBoost has a better chance of having a lower cost of operation. I don't see it ever coming to market...If it does, it won't last.
  5. The Ford Brand Managers certainly don't want to call the PI a Taurus, and they don't want to call the UI an Explorer. They are taking great pains to impress on sales people what the vehicles are going to be known as. You won't see Taurus or Explorer badges. The new vehicles are the most unique to date - The CVPI is more like a civilian Crown Vic than the NGPI is like a Taurus. The Taurus Police Package of the '90's was plagued with problems, and horsepower never got over 160. It represented everything wrong with a front wheel drive Police car. That will be Ford's biggest obstacle - Making a front wheel and all-wheel drive package that is durable enough for law enforcement. You do see a lot of detectives and admin driving the Taurus (pre 2008), but not anything newer. It seems as though when the Taurus took the Five Hundred paltform, they switched to either Fusions or Impalas.
  6. Let's all be mindful of Ford's wishes: It is a "PI" or a "NGPI" ...Not a "TI"- A Taurus name on a Police car is just as bad to cops & fleet managers as a civillian owning a Taurus and worrying about how it will affect his resale value! Remember there's nearly 200 unique features to the PI -
  7. Sounds like the GM fleet guy is trying to sell himself on that imported police car he's getting! Pricing? How much is the new Ford??? Nobody knows yet...Besides the Impala, it might be the cheapest. The new Dodge jumped almost two grand over the CVPI in my state for 2011! It was almost that much less than the CVPI for 2010! Anybody know how much an Austrailian Chevy is going to cost? A lot will ride on how much gpc the manufacturer's will give. I think the utility is going to grab a sizable chunk of the market.
  8. goinbroke2: OK - Being in the car business is challenging sometimes, especially doing government sales. It gets really challenging when body codes that you've worked with for years suddenly change for no apparent reason. It is also hard when a vehicle comes out, and is only in production for a short time, and suddenly becomes the next model year long before that year even gets here. (2010-2011 Super Duty) I was in error on the CVPI - It did change with the 2010 model. But, that was in mid 2009, and I've got a few 2010's on hand, 2011's coming, and a couple of all new 2012's coming later! It seems like a "couple of years" as the P7B, but it hasn't been that long. Also, I'm getting older and that doesn't help! Hope you didn'ty bang your head too hard today!
  9. P2E is a SEL FWD and the P2H is a SEL AWD. As far as I know, Ford hasn't divulged body codes for the Interceptor. The CVPI could build out as early as March, but the new one won't be ready untill the fall. The P71 changed to P7B a couple of years ago. Same thing in the F-Series: W12=W1C, W14+W1E, etc.
  10. Could the center picture be the upcoming pursuit utility? Notice the black grill and mesh.
  11. Pricing went live today in the order system for the 2011 Super Duty. The 6.2L is the base engine for the pickups. Job 1 starts in February. That doesn't answer your Raptor question, but I would imagine it will be available sometime in the early Spring.
  12. Sounds like they did what they did to my '95 Town Car - Put a "jumper" on, and fixed the problem. I might be able to check the car's open recalls/warranty repairs, but would need the VIN. I think part of FMC Dealer website is down this weekend for maintainence, but should be up by late Sunday. If you want me to check, we can exchange e-mail.
  13. No special upgrades on a Focus P3C - Silicone hoses are only available on P7B (previously P71). My guess the "RCMP Only" is that car is only available to them off that particular buying contract.
  14. The P3C is a Focus coupe, and the 200A is the base Rapid Spec option code. The only vehicles from Ford with anything "changed" for Police use are the CVPI, Explorer, and Expeditions. Of course the CVPI (P7B) is considered a pursuit vehicle, and the SUV's are Special Service Vehicles (SSV's) with only minimal changes from regular models. Usually things like alternator or battery upgrades, noise suppression (Explorer), vinyl floors and column shift (Expedition).
  15. I think the official "prediction" by most of the industry was the Charger and the 300 might have a five year life after the takeover. Cars aren't profitable (especially for them) - Trucks and SUV's are. My guess is as time goes on, the trucks/Jeep will get to stay and the cars will be replaced by smaller Fiat designed cars.
  16. I don't see an $8K difference in "like-optioned" CVPI's and Chargers. Were they Hemi's or 6 cylinders? I recently bid against Chargers and came up $1,450 higher, then factor an additional $1,560 for a 100K mile powertrain warranty that Dodge gives you. That's about $4K, But $8K??????? We've been seeing Dodge concessions up to $9K, and Ford's are less than half of that. I can't figure it out, other than they are giving them away...But for what??? I don't see Fiat continue making that platform very long...I don't see it being around much longer. I'm starting to see the negative side of the Dodge coming to haunt departments that bought them a couple of years ago. Several are avoiding them now. Now I have to worry about how stupid GM will be by bringing the Caprice to market...If it does, that will make an AWD Eco Boost look like a bad idea.
  17. Tahoe is going away also. My guess(es) on the new CVPI: Unibody SUV-type, Edge or possibly the new Explorer. FWD V6, and V6 EcoBoost with AWD. -OR- Taurus with same drivetrains as above. -OR- The Taurus X might become available only as the interceptor. The Ford Police Advisory Board has been intrumental in helping to open communication between the police fleets and Ford regarding the CVPI,as well as having input on the development of the replacement vehicle. I know they have driven an EcoBoost mule of some sorts, but due to strict confidentiality agreements, nobody's talking! Regarding the Ethonal engine (V code), it is the only engine available. That reminds me...Why didn't they ever use the 3 valve heads on this car??? Could have been an easy 50 h.p.
  18. 2010 is the last year for the CVPI for sure...Unibody with EcoBoost is on the way. A positive note regarding sales, P71's built-out a little early for '09's - I have a feeling some folks are smelling death in the "Hemi Precinct!"
