  1. Yes sir. Ford did make an announcement BEV Transit van yesterday, I started a thread on it, see below. But your suggestion is a good one. Ford needs to have an "EV day" of its own, highlighting actual BEV vehicles and technologies and timelines for their availability. Like GM's event today, Ford can enforce a no photography/no video policy if they want. While Ford is doing some things right with electrification, its strategy to get out the ICE age and fully join the ongoing automotive industry rEVolution still leaves too much in doubt.
  2. Good points sho94_2000 sir. Only LAPD and other LA city government officials know what's really behind the low utilization of the BMW i3 cars they leased, and they're not openly sharing that info. Poor training is almost certainly an issue here, though. U.S. DOJ has harped on LAPD to improve its training in general for officers as well as civilian staff for decades.
  3. Thanks for this article. It reiterates one of the underlying issues for LAPD's low utilization of its BMW i3 cars, lack of proper training and education.
  4. Sounds like a lack of proper training for LAPD employees about BEV usage. Also corruption in the LA city government too.
  5. Electrek has detailed articles on GM's EV conference in Warren, Michigan today. https://electrek.co/2020/03/04/gm-electric-vehicle-news-hub-bolt-ev-euv-cadillac-electri/
  6. Initial purchase price of BEV commercial van is more than a gasoline or diesel van, but operating costs and total cost of ownership or lease will be lower.
  7. Maybe in the very short term (next 1-5 years) as automakers scramble to meet tightened regulatory requirements for fuel economy globally. Longer term, ICE vehicle bans such as the one proposed in the U.K. will include hybrid and PHEV. As such, hybrids are quickly becoming obsolete. The future of the automotive industry is all electric, all autonomous, with mobility services an integral part.
  8. I know that Ford completely botched the launch of 2020 Explorer, and that a first year all new or redesigned Ford vehicle is almost guaranteed to have issues that require trips to your dealership service department. But what y'all are having to deal with yesguitarman and SStone is appalling.
  9. Ford is responding to customer demand for all electric trucks and vans. They announced BEV F-150 last year, today they put out a press release for 2022 BEV Transit Van for U.S. and Canada markets. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2020/03/03/ford-to-offer-all-electric-transit.html
  10. Yes sir snooter, Tesla's U.S. Gigafactory 1 in Nevada is shared with Panasonic, which makes 21700 battery cells for Tesla vehicles assembled at Fremont. There are rumors that Model 3 assembled in China use LG Chem 21700 cells rather than Panasonic for its battery pack. https://insideevs.com/news/372449/rumor-lg-chem-started-cell-production-gigafactory-3/
  11. I hope that Tesla's battery technology breakthroughs make the incumbent automakers take BEV engineering and development more seriously. Or make them consider purchasing battery packs from Tesla. The more BEVs in the marketplace, from all brands, the better.
  12. Neither is Tesla. Audi and Jaguar have designed very nice BEV with e-tron and I-Pace respectively. But they haven't caught up to Tesla in technology, efficiency, and marketing. And do you know for sure that Audi and Jaguar aren't selling these models at a loss? Both resorted to big time sales incentives last year, yet as mentioned earlier were completely eclipsed by Tesla in actual sales. Example with I-Pace below.
  13. The bigger question is if Tesla will have real competition. In the U.S., the two so called "Tesla killers" in crossover segments from incumbent automakers since 2018, Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace, together couldn't attain even half the sales of Tesla Model X alone in 2019.
  14. Went through some old Automotive News issues and found this is more common than I originally thought. And not just midsize sedans, but some non-luxury compacts too. Top 5 car models traded in for Tesla Model 3. Toyota Prius BMW 3-Series Honda Accord Honda Civic Nissan Leaf Here is what Automotive News said Toyota dealers are seeing.
  15. Correct. BMW in particular, but other luxury brands were impacted too. The president of dealership group Sonic Automotive confirmed this last year. From February 21, 2019 issue of Automotive News.
  16. Tesla Model 3 isn't in the midsize family sedan segment. Though it is possible some owners of midsize family sedans decided to upgrade to a Model 3 rather than get a new version of the midsize sedan they had. Ideally, the graph in the OP should show a comparison between Tesla Model 3 sales compared to that of BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and Lexus IS, rather than Accord, Camry, Civic, and Corolla.
  17. While mlhm5 didn't say so explicitly, it is possible that the comparison between Model X and Model Y could be interpreted in a way that is incorrect, that is, Model Y is not a luxury vehicle. Maybe mlhm5 can clarify.
  18. We heard it, but that doesn't make it true.
  19. Yes sir. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi found out the hard way that reservations for Model 3 starting in 2016 weren't all from people who never owned a compact luxury sedan and were buying one for the first time. 3-Series, C-Class, and A4 sales have dropped significantly since then. The introduction of Tesla Model 3 is a major reason why.
  20. If you have a problem with BEV incentives, contact your legislators and make a case against them.
  21. Also, Ford is alive today because of its success in the pickup truck market. But all of those pickup trucks are ICE powered. As the rEVolution in the automotive industry continues, it's vital that Ford successfully transitions its pickup truck lineup to BEV, and in particular get the BEV F-Series to market before Tesla, GM, and others. The company's future survival depends on it.
  22. State governments, just like federal government, are pursuing policies that reduce petroleum use, GHG emissions, and local air pollutant emissions. Those things benefit everybody. Incentives for the purchase or lease of BEV and EV charging equipment help fulfill those goals.
  23. What about Ford and GM pickup truck owners? Ford and GM both said they will start selling BEV pickup trucks within the next 2 years. The challenge will be for Ford and GM to retain those customers, and not have them defect to Tesla or other companies planning to sell BEV pickup trucks.
  24. theoldwizard has plenty of proof in the examples he shared. Also this link. https://blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/forum/11-ford-employee-forum/
