https://www.reuters.com/technology/one-third-americans-would-consider-ev-purchase-reutersipsos-poll-2023-03-21/ this poll disagrees with you, from the poll: The seven-day poll completed on Monday found 34% of all respondents would consider an EV, while 31% said no. Among Democrats, 50% said they would consider an EV, while 26% of Republicans and 27% of independents said they would consider it. There are now more than 80 EV models for sale in the United States. EVs represented nearly 6% of all U.S. sales in 2022, with EV sales up by more than 60% last year.

I agree and there is only one way to reduce costs with out hurting quality. Deming stated that over his 70+ years working in service and manufacturing that more than 45% of total costs could be traced back to waste and rework. That all comes from processes that are not capable of meeting specs. And you cannot know if your processes are capable without measuring and confirming with accurate and precise measurement systems in place to prove that they do. You do not measure the product to see if it passes but to see if your process is capable. Based on the results F processes are not capable. Of course all of this takes time to setup but this is what you get if you do not take the time. The story goes that in the early 80's when the VP of Quality of F was told to get Deming in Deming said he would not come or even return the call unless the CEO called.

We helped many companies but during follpwup months or years later most failed because the president/CEO wanted his company to change but they expected to contimue what they had determined got them to their position woud keep them there so they refused to change their own behaivor which meant a new way of thinking and was really hard to do, really hard. Some hypothesied that the Japenese had less problems with this thought process because of the Judeo/Christian ethic of Americans which determined things were either good or bad (pass/fail) versus how good or bad a thing was (variation).

I used to use SiriusXM but no longer pay the sub price since we travel so little. Being in our 70s I've found a local AM classic rock station and almost always listen to that. But since I'm an ole koot it doesn't matter. -

Synfuels vs EVs bitchfest

this from Jayski Silly Season with manufacturers discussing electrification of NASCAR: Mark Rushbrook, global director for Ford Performance Motorsports, said an intermediate step could involve moving to a “low carbon fuel or a responsible fuel” while still utilizing a combustion engine. “We’ve got a great formula here with Cup and Xfinity and Trucks and three good national series, but there’s an opportunity to look and do more and try to introduce that technology in a way that makes sense.” — Motorsport — -

at the end of the 66 model year my mom bought a new Falcon, white, 6 cylinder, 3 speed column shifter no radio or cig lighter and rubber mats. $1600. I cracked the tran housing driving on a logging trail going thru a big mud hole about 30/40 mph and hit something solid and the car just stopped dead. Did not find out till later when mom was driving on interstate and the tranny locked up after losing all the grease. Good Times....
