https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/21/business/stellantis-jeep-woes/index.html this was an interesting story on cnn about jeep prices being too high. In 2023 jeep had the highest ATP of any automaker. This year they are second to ford. Ford has an atp of 55k vs the industry average of 47.5k. Things aren’t so great lately for jeep. Is ford following in their footsteps? https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/which-automaker-is-actually-the-most-profitable/ I found this article interesting as well. Ford is at the bottom of the list for profit per vehicle at 3%. Toyota on the other hand is at 11.1% and Kia is at 11.6%. With all the high dollar trucks ford sells, how is their profit so low?

Dark trail package shown, available in black and gray. Pretty much the same as the other packages with different wheels. https://fordauthority.com/2024/11/ford-bronco-dark-trail-black-package-officially-revealed/ https://sema.fordcustomgarage.com Interesting that the ford garage link above seems to indicate that the tires are part of all the packages. I’d like to see some packages offered without a lift and 35s. Maybe a new grille, wheels, black emblems and script, maybe new grab handles. A package like this for around $2000 would be attractive to big bend owners who are looking for more style.

It actually wouldn’t be a bad looking truck if they fixed the fenders and the front.

I could do without the “future fords may have this feature” articles everyday 😆 -
$5200 is pretty steep. Especially since labor and tires are not included. Below are the individual prices. I couldn’t find the tire carrier on ford performance but I think the regular one is around $700, so they are giving you a slight discount for the package. Grille Letters -$110 ford badge - $60 Wheels - $1655 calibration - $825 level kit - $1900 flares - $555 tire carrier - ? However, you can buy these parts significantly cheaper elsewhere. For example, I found the wheels for $1200, the calibration for $700, the letters and badges for $40, etc. You don’t get the warranty coverage if you go that route though. I wonder if the ford performance 25% off coupon will apply to this package. Dropping it down to $3900 makes it much more attractive.

Ford is done with making boring cars

300 mile range for 30k would be great. Is there anything on the market that comes remotely close to that? The only one I can think of was the Bolt, but it’s range was closer to 250 and it’s design was 👎🏻. -

I wish I was as optimistic as you. I’m in the “believe it when I see it” side of things. Very rarely is something both affordable and bad ass. And when something comes along that is, it doesn’t stay affordable for long. I can’t recall any ford in recent memory being badass besides the bronco. I’m not counting the GT or performance trims like the raptor because those are the opposite of affordable. Even a moderately equipped bronco pushes the limits on affordability. There’s lots of ev’s out there now. Here’s a list of the 11 cheapest. The problem is the cheaper ones (30-35k) have terrible range. To get good range, prices are 40k and above, again pushing the limits on affordability. None of them are particularly exciting and some are pretty terrible (looking at you ioniq 6😆). The model 3 and Mach e are the best looking of the bunch. Id be very surprised if ford can deliver exciting design, good range, and affordable (my definition of that is low to mid 30’s but your definition will vary). I have a really hard time seeing that happen considering no other automaker has done it yet. https://www.cars.com/amp/articles/here-are-the-11-cheapest-electric-vehicles-you-can-buy-439849/ -
The article mentions the price of the BYD as 54k (pesos converted to dollars). If this truck starts anywhere near that price, I think it will be a huge failure. That’s top of the line ranger raptor pricing. I would guess this truck needs to have a max starting price for the base model of around 40k or less to be successful. Now the good news is that pricing across countries doesn’t usually match. For example the article lists the ranger xl with a price of 38k in Mexico but it starts closer to 32k here in the USA. So there’s hope it could come in cheaper than 54k. Midsize truck still seems like an odd choice to me. Compact seems like it should have been the way to go.

Well looks like motor1 has joined the horrible interface club

I didnt have high expectations for these vehicles, but man was I wrong. These are some of the best looking vehicles I have seen in years. The truck looks very similar in shape to a rivian, but has a better looking front end. If this really starts in the 50’s, rivian is going to be in trouble. I like the range extender gas engine on the suv. I haven’t really been interested in an EV, but I could see myself buying something with that set up.

https://www.motor1.com/news/738668/scout-traveler-suv-terra-pickup-truck-debut-specs/ looks really good too.

Still don’t understand the name change. Active is terrible. Seems like every manufacturer has some sort of “active” trim. Those are some big differences in price, I hope there are more standard features accounting for the price difference instead of just a price increase with nothing to show for it.

That front end looks good on the kicks. Not so much here.

MT SUV of the Year Finalists

It has some tough competition. GX, Land Cruiser, Nautilus, EV9 and R1S all seem like worthy vehicles. -
The current passport’s dimensions are within an inch of the big broncos. To me, this new one appears to be larger although that could just be an illusion due to its boxier shape. The early model Passports and Rodeos were some of my favorite SUVs back in the day. It’s good to see the passport looking a bit more rugged like it used to.

https://www.motor1.com/reviews/738221/2026-honda-passport-trailsport-drive/ This is the trail sport trim, still with camo. Looks like a Bronco Sport, but with the big broncos size.

I have to say, if you are painting your grille body color, that is probably the best one to go with. It looks really good on yours. I’ve seen badlands grilles painted to match the body and it did not look great. -

The Kia EV9 is about as boxy as you can get, but it has a drag coefficient of .28, which is a bit lower than the passenger car average of .3. The model Y and 3 are at .23 for reference. SUVs are usually in the .4-.5 range. I think you could get away with not having the front end like that. Change the front end, and change that ridiculously small rear door window, and it might be a decent truck. I actually really like the Superduty. With the black appearance and tremor packages, it’s probably one of the best looking trucks around.
