And optional limits to payload -
2022 6.7L I keep hearing about fuel pump grenading and costing 15k and up to repair. How common is this? I've been running Opti-Lube, at a rate a little less than recommended. Am I wasting my money, or does it really work? Talked to a 40 year diesel mechanic/shop owner yesterday and he said CP4 has made him wealthy. He said it's not if, but when CP4 will fail. His recommendation, the cheapest 2 cycle oil you can find and add 1/2 gallon to every full fillup. I questioned that he really meant 1/2g, and he said absolutely, 1/2g. Does that make any sense? He also said his shop is looking at a replacement fuel pump, but unfortunately didn't have the info on him, it's back at his shop. Also said to avoid bio diesel... isn't all fuel bio diesel?

Looks like it has failed. I'm going to have the TPMS removed just so I can get the correct part number to order a replacement. Dealership showed me literally a dozen different TPMS part numbers. After I get the new TPMS installed, how can I get it trained, especially since I won't be moving the trailer for at least a couple of weeks? Solution TPMS sensor was broken into two pieces. I suspect it got banged when the tire was patched. Spent quite a bit of time with dealer parts department, and I kind of took a risk with part number HC3Z-1A189-D as it didn't match the part number that was originally installed, and it worked. I should have paid more attention to the screens on the truck, but pretty sure it was under tire pressure, setting up a new trailer, and I had to marry all four tires again to the truck. I did not have drive the trailer like the instructions indicated.

First, this thing is a freaking beast. Towing a 13.5 GVWR trailer, 6% grade, no issue. Even been on steeper grades, actually amount unknown, still no issue I have the LB, and have a love/hate relationship with it. Love the extra bed space, IMO, improves the ride, especially while towing. Hate the turning radius, which is equivalent to the Queen Mary. Parking lots are also challenging. Glad I went with 3.31 FDR, it gets into 10th gear on level roads. With 10spd, there is plenty of starting gear ratio. Roll top Tonneau, it does take up space in the truck bed, but I absolutely love to be able to stand on it. I think I might consider a hard folding cover if starting over LOVE LOVE LOVE adaptive cruise, especially when towing. I ordered the bumper step, wasn't sure why, but have used it several times. Installed rear seat release mechanism on drivers side... it should come with this as standard Trailer TPMS and Camera. Love both of these, although one TPMS sensor has apparently gone bad. I leave the camera on while driving, I wish it could be in the side panel on Sync 4 screen like the bed camera. Also, the sync system is in backup mode while the trailer camera is on the screen, meaning sync voice commands do not work. Heated seats are nice All the camera angles really help when parking I ordered the stupid backup assist, mostly for my wife, but she has yet to use it. I couldn't make it work when I trialed it before it was released, and I still can't make it work. Took off the antenna and replaced it with a stubby. I wish the extended running boards went further back on the LB. It's touch messing with the hitch. Bought a tire step for my wife to use when connecting or disconnecting.

Super Duty Technical Specifications Payload Chart
road turtle replied to Sledz's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
Just get the F350 and be done. Also, your charts are showing limited GVWR, which is an option. My F350D has a GVWR of 12,400 -
One of my sensors has quit working. Took the wheel to a tire store, and he couldn't get it to read on his device, no matter what ford model truck or even the trailer selection on his tool I asked him if we could just replace the sensor, and said, unless you can tell me exactly what sensor this is, I can't guarantee we'll get it right, and suggested a ford dealer. I hate not having TPMS on one tire, because earlier this year TPMS twice saved my tires and trailer from damage. Once due to a wheel crack, 2nd time to a significant piece of road debris. Does anybody have the Ford part number for the TPMS sensor, or a description that a tire dealer can work with?

2022 F350 A few days before we started this years journey, front pass door lock stopped functioning with electric lock. Can hear the motor running, and the door can be opened with the inside handle and locked pushing down on the door lock. Then it started working again for almost three weeks... and now has quit again. Anybody tun into this issue before?

I've seen all kinds of claims, 3-4a all the way up to 25a. With my solar system, I can monitor the exact energy and path... ( I forgot to turn off the inverter, but I have the data). 2022 F350D, towing a 5th wheel, solar input current was shut off, so the only source of energy was from 7 pin going into the battery. i intentionally ran the 5th wheel Lithium battery banks down pretty far. I have dual alternators, but don't recall the total alternator capacity. While on the freeway, 68 mph, the 5th wheel battery bank was receiving 15.5a

Trailer Backup Camera Not Default Reverse View
road turtle replied to Blackdiamond925's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
trailer camera is NOT visible on the side screen, only the bed camera. Wonder if it can be "reprogrammed" to show the aux camera instead of bed camera??? -
Trailer Backup Camera Not Default Reverse View

before the latest update, no.... but the update changed the screen views some. I'm hoping it's viewable now, but i won't be hooking back up for a couple of weeks. -
Did try searching and didn't find it. I remember reading about adding a part to the drivers side rear seat back like pass side seat back. Does anybody know where or who makes the part?

I've given up tracking DEF fluid levels. I did make the mistake at one fuel stop, seeing it was showing 1,500 miles left, and literally 100 miles down the road, I got an alert that I was down to 500 miles. Now, if I'm fueling up in a truck lane, and have less than 1/2 tank, I go ahead and refill DEF. It goes through a lot while towing, and virtually none when not towing. Secondary issue that DEF does go bad, so I don't try and keep it full when not towing.

IMO, the quality issues start at the top. When you literally force cost reductions through without following through with complete testing, and then wonder why there are quality issues? When you go with lowest cost supplier no matter what condition the supplier is in, what do you think is going to happen? When you literally layoff your most experienced engineering staff, who is going to handle issues that develop?

2022 Super Duty Orders & Discussion
road turtle replied to mrmallerd's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
I had over a couple of decades at Ford in salaried positions and had a pretty deep contact list. Even I couldn't get my truck moved off of the train's destination lot. Dealer called me and said your truck arrived, and then told me the story the delivery driver told him. Apparently the driver was given a stack of vehicles to load and deliver... couldn't find a single one. They gave him another stack, couldn't find any of those. Mine was in his third stack, and he only find 2 or 3 in the stack and they told him to just take those. I'm thinking this is a combination of first in last out inventory management, with a mix of anarchy thrown in for good measure. I often wonder on some of these that can't be found how many were stolen for parts. -
2023 Super Duty Orders & Discussion
road turtle replied to ice-capades's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
I'd bet money it was a financial decision to go with 2.5" over 3". Somebody determined that very few customers "need" 3" receiver and it's lower cost too. Supplier capacity issues could also play into the decision. -
Just wait when the reality of off the development money pouring into electric vehicles back fires. With very few exceptions, company cutting top line revenue do not increase profit margins. In fact the usual ends up happening. Ford has pushed up the price of trucks so high, it's a struggle for most to even buy a new vehicle. Look at the sudden and substantial increase in Lightening pricing. once you get past early adopters, that market will fall drop like a rock. A good portion of SD market is to construction workers. As the housing market is collapsing, so will construction jobs.

2023 Lariat Ultimate and Max Recline Seats
road turtle replied to jmn's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
Friend sleeps in his suburban while traveling the country. Interesting note, he has a luggage rack with LED flood lights on all 4 sides. In a rest area, somebody woke him up banging on the window. He flipped the switch, and daylight. Guy literally took off running. I'd love to set that up on my SD, but don't want additional height. -
Lost a key in Retrax Tonneau Cover
road turtle replied to road turtle's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
Sorry for the late update! Magnet was a most excellent idea, and my first attempt at finding the key, except it didn't work. I emailed the mfg, and their suggestion was loosen all the bolts and slide the whole mechanism rearward and remove the front cover piece. BUT, after loosening all the bolts, I had to move a LOT of stuff in front of the hitch. After all the bolts were loose, and I had to move crap out of the way, what should I see, but my key! It never went into the canister! -
$5000 to fix Adaptive Steering Fault??
road turtle replied to OrangeTurbo's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
I decided for the first time in my life to add an extended warranty, along with maintenance contract. Looking at the cost of oil changes on the 6.7L, the maintenance contract was almost a wash, and it gained me extra coverage on the warranty too. -
$5000 to fix Adaptive Steering Fault??
road turtle replied to OrangeTurbo's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
An oil formulator believes he discovered the cause of the Hemi "tic". He believed the valves were not rotating and would get "stuck". By adding {I don't recall the additive) to the oil, it would prevent the tic. I actually started running T6 in the SRT Challenger. Oil analysis is showing good results. -

Confusion on pro trailer backup assist and tow package
road turtle replied to blackduty's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
I will completely disagree with this. If a person learns and practices on the "knob", they will be as competent as you are on the steering wheel. As an employee I trialed the system while it was still in development. I hated it, and actually backed a trailer through an S Course not using the system... but I have decades of experience backing up trailers. I've seen people do an awesome job with the knob. I tried to show my wife how to use the knob, but it was clear, she was learning better without my "help". She has a ways to go to get proficient, but it works for her.
