  1. Without government help? did they not last or the previous receive a loan of 6.9billon for retooling of plants to build more fuel efficient cars!. That loan flew under the radar of the public, and I bet any other future loans will as well.
  2. I would not say that Ford has not dipped into the government coffers. Last time I checked they received over 6billon that's to be used in retooling plants for manufacturing of greener cars.
  3. They are intact for now but I am afraid that wont be for long. Much of the concessions I see are merely SHORT TERM savings for the company, when those run there course they will be back at the table asking for more. The other thing to be concerned about is when and how soon CHINESE made cars start showing up on NA soil, at that point expect for sure to end back at the table with the word "COMPETITIVE" being thrown around once again.
  4. OBAMA! OBAMA OBAMA!!!!!! Hmmm I wonder what else The GREAT OBAMA will impose on the UAW?
  5. This does what? Oh wait create X amount of jobs but the number that get eliminated ends up being greater so we win how?. Sure Ford will end up being the strongest of whats left but if you think its going to stay the same size your sadly mistaken.
  6. If over the next 30-60 days the company sticks to this statement than yes maybe some good will come of this but 60 days is a long in this type of situation and things can change in a heart beat. I will remain optimistic and hope when the dust settles that the above statement was kept by the company.
  7. Well I guess we know how he voted because its being reported that Chrysler is filing for Chap 11 as I type this reply. The president Obama is going to make a news cast at around 12est to relay the news.
  8. LOL I was trying to be nice and keep some of my comments to myself . I agree Chrysler may still file to Chap 11 so they can even further shed all of there toxic assets etc and as you said start fresh maybe even Union free.
  9. Wow do you really think that if both GM and Chrysler pass this latest test that things will hunky dory! after wards. Both companies could still easily file for chap 11, as well did you see the cuts GM plans to make?. I sure Chrysler will follow and Ford will not be far behind with its own cuts, heck your jumping for joy for what? the UAW is going to be sitting down with Ford again with them asking for the same maybe even MORE concessions! Remember Pattern Bargaining is HISTORY. Oh and if you think your wages wont be touched now or in the near future you are sadly mistaken.
  10. Last time I checked getting it in "Writing" meant nothing, because these contracts are always filled with escape clauses. Should Chrysler still file chap 11 than essentially the agreement just voted on becomes null and void. Here's a question though if either of the two file Chap 11 and emerge from it broken up into smaller car companies would they be Unionized or not?
  11. Also I believe the Obama administration made it clear it would provide the funds necessary to keep either company running while it restructures through chap 11. So again jumping for joy, seems premature. As well if these concessions by Chrysler are now greater do you not think both GM and Ford will seek the same maybe even more, and if we once again agree to such cuts does Chrysler/Fiat demand any extras. They may have not touched the wages this time but, soon enough we will be told it was either take a wage cut or see 1 more companies go belly up!.
  12. Jumping for joy? why? As it stands Chrysler still needs the creditors to accept the latest offer from themselves and the treasury dept which by last account was not happening. Even if that is worked out there is still no guarantee that would not file for Chap 11. So I think its a little premature to start singing "Happy days are here again" when there is still a major storm a brewing.
  13. If Gm or Chrysler file Chap 11, there is no guarantee that people will buy from Ford and instead buy from Honda, Toyota etc etc. When it comes to wages should either company file CHap 11 and come out of it with its workers making less what do you think Ford will want?. If the Big workers are now making even less do you not think Honda etc will not once again lower there wages, and than will the Big3 cry again that there is a disparity between and ask for even more concessions.
  14. During these restructuring talks, General Motors agreed La maintain the previously announced product commitments in Oshawa and St. Catharines. Long Term Care You know that means absolutely nothing! Insert escape clause "These can change due to market conditions". Oshawa knows all to well this can happen because it did 1 month after GM workers ratified the contract.
  15. No they don't mention the FINE PRINT or ESCAPE CLAUSES that Ford can use while there telling us to sign and accept these changes to the contract.
