Well, it's official....... More gloom for the American autoworker.

I disagree. Although there are things wrong with the economy in general, I have faith in our manufacturers and the people who work for them. In retrospect, GM was on top and now isn't. So what have we learned? Nobody (read Toyota) stays on top forever.

"Our goal has never been to sell the most cars in the world," Nolasco said. "We simply want to be the best in quality. After that, sales will take care of themselves."

What a liar.....wasn't it Toyota president that said "we will bury the Americans"?

Well, if they did say that (I don't recall), wouldn't that fire up the leadership and unions of the Big 3 to produce competitive vehicles? Instead, they ignored the threat and put great vehicles out like the Ford 500. Come on, we could have competed...

With the 500 they were looking for a solid car to end the skid of recall kings and it did just that. When the Japanese did it years ago they called them reliable vanilla cones, when Ford did it they cried about the underpowered vehicle that was average in the 0-60 test results. Go figure.

I think Fords products are all right as in they have turned the page but they need this to be the foundation and to continue to build on it. It is in the area of management that Ford really fails. I really don't think all of the cross over exposure helps, it use to be you came out of a department and rose in that department since that was where your expertise lie. I'm not certain the the interdepartmental groups really pay dividends since they are really powerless anyhow. The decisions are still going through the incredibly long list of red tape so why both with the show?

Remember Toyota is still in third place in America.

Toyota is first in global sales because they are the only car company that deals in the unstable third world countries and they are big in the middle east. Generally when it comes to markets with heavy competition from other manufacturers like America or Europe they are not first.

But this stat gives the media one more sound bite to bash GM and Ford, they don't explain that GM has lead the world in sales to modern civilizations for over 60 years, Toyota the third world king has now sold more cars than GM for 1 quarter of one year.

And yes Toyota is lying when they say number one world sales bragging rights was not their goal. Toyota has admitted they loose money on their best selling car in America (Camry) to keep that model's top sales bragging rights in America.

They have something we dont't have, momentum. People like them and they market well globally. GM may give away cars to try and regain the crown but they won't keep the 60 year crown.

On a global scale, who really cares? The U.S. auto market is the one that matters the most, otherwise the foreign corporations wouldn't be building here and trying to increase market share. China looks to be next but how many people in China can afford to buy a car given the fact that they make a whole $1 per day? Can you see 1 billion cars on the road in China? That will never happen. They just want to copy and steal from us.

We can't compete globally, not if we're going to have decent paying jobs in America. If you don't have manufacturing in the U.S, you will have a lot less jobs besides assembly positions. With those go the accountants, managers, IT people, safety and security jobs, cafeteria workers, all the vendor related jobs and the people who build their product, etc... The list goes on and on.

This country had better be heading toward a revolution of sorts. Defend our borders, stay out of other countries and their business, rely on products produced here and make America the priority. It's now or never.

Ford flooded the rental market with the Taurus for the same reason. Dont get me wrong, the Taurus was an all around good dependable Car, but this is normal shit for these Automakers. Its that voodoo math stuff.........

By all means let Toyota have the number 1 spot. Who cares being number 1 in this industry comes with alot of problems ask GM.

The media I'm sure down the road will start trying to knock them down well, except for the media Toyota hasn't bought off. Lets remember Toyota really only got to that spot by lies eg. not reporting all the recalls they had so the public was fooled. Also the World Trade has helped screw us over with North American free trade laws. They can ship their cars here but the tariffs they put on North American cars or even down right not allowing our cars in is complete crap.

Toyota is smart though they are looking at this market just like it is a war and GM, Ford and Chrysler need to realize this it's time to take the gloves off. The three should not focuss so much on each other but Toyota, Honda and Kia don't foget about that one moving up in the market. Soon China! Soon the crap that will be comming from there will be like cardboard on wheels that you put on the curb garbage daywhen your done with it.

It's time Ford, GM and Chrysler do a little alliance and start playing dirty. :slap:

The pendulum will swing back, just have patience. Yes, GM had it for 60 years, but competition other than Ford and Chrysler was non existant. Today, auto companys are everywhere, and merging to make even bigger conglomerates to boot.

American ingenuity will prevail in the end. Why? Because stringent ways of life are good for creating stringent solutions. 1+2=3 always, and in those stringent worlds of business, tunnel vision is wonderful..............until something changes, and it always does.

It is no accident that this country has in a little over 200yrs, become the most powerful country the world has ever seen in military power, and economics. It is the freedom of thought and action that has gotten us there, along with.....I admit.....causing a few problems in the process.

Remember that no matter how you view it, our car companys are not only fighting these foreign invaders, but also fighting the UAW in some way, shape, or form. It is a two front war, and Germany will tell you twice over that a two front war is not winnable from a military perspective, nor an economic perspective unless your adversary is forced to do the same thing, which Toyoty is not.

After September, the tide will begin to turn for one, or possibly both of our automakers. And those who believe they are king of the hill, will find that American pure economic power will supplant them easily, once the playingfield is leveled enough to make it so.

Watch and see. Oh, and by the way, Toyoty and friends got their first slap in the face of a reality check when congress was taken over by the dems. Not that they will help us in any way, but they will use us as an excuse to tax them, lol. I suppose the end justifys the means on this one, but it still should make us queezy, lolololol.

Don't bet on the Democrats helping those of us dependant on the Detroit automakers. Not one bit. The transplants - all of them - have spread themselves out in the USA enough to dilute whatever political capital Detroit had to begin with.

It is actually better to limit our capacity and availability to meet our demand. It is better to build less and sell all that you build. rather than to get into the numbers game and have to give your surplus inventory away!. It also increases your resale. Packcar builds Peterbuilt and Kenworth Semi trucks. They limit their capacity and focus on qaulity. Freightliner (owned by Mercedes) began mass producing cheap trucks at the rate we do cars. Eventually, they flooded the market with trucks. A Freightliner is now a dime a dozen! Don't freat just make sure our vehicles are built correctly. I report every defect I see wheather it is on my job or not. Peterbuilt and Kenworth are now the preffered brands. In a sea of camry's it will be appealing to others to see something sharp coming out of Detroit. Besides familiarity breeds contempt. Let them puff and show their arrogants! That's our plight! Contrary to Henry Fords original thoughts. Rather than putting a Ford in every driveway, We need to know that everyone that has a Ford in their driveway is happy with it. It is better to incidentally pay for warrenty work for someone who abuses their vehicle than to deny responsibility and alienate a customer who doesn't. Screw them and they will never buy from us again!
