dunkin
The next round of buyouts will come around January. Ford would really like to eliminate the surplus of skilled trades and not many of the trades bit on the last round of buyout offers. The company realizes they may have to sweeten the offer this time around but it's uncertain at this point what they'll do. last buyout was an insult for the workers with over 30 years. workers with one year got 100,000.oo and 7months insurance and the over 30 workers got 140,000.00 and 7 months insurance WHAT A DEAL!!!!!!! dunkin
Skilled trades do not fall under the $14.00 new hire wage. They will make trade wages, even if hired off the street. when do you think they will hire any trades other than electricians????? probably at least 5 to 10 years!!!!!!! Pioneer
last buyout was an insult for the workers with over 30 years. Yeah. What an insult. Approx $23,000 in the bank, and a pension with medical benefits for the rest of your life.
howie
Yeah. What an insult. Approx $23,000 in the bank, and a pension with medical benefits for the rest of your life. Just curious here. Pioneer, are you salary?

Dunkin, you are right on target. If Ford thinks that the hardcore that are left will take a buyout consisting of the crumbs they brush our way, they better rethink the plan. No matter how hard they whip their lackeys into trying to get us to believe that they are so 'generous', many of us can see thru smoke. While Ford has always acted like weekend drunk sailors when it came to 'their own' on the mountaintop, we in the valley are just tired of their complaining of how broke they are come Monday morning. Heck, that's under half of what it costs to get Mark Fields home for a weekend. I hope you aren't banking on that "medical benefits for the rest of your life" scene. If so, you might wish to speak to some retirees from Cat, Detroit Diesel and Dana about how well UAW does with VEBA.

Captain723
hehehe... Well if you don't know...the Cat Veba was only to last 4 yrs to get them through to the next contract. It was supposed to last until the next agreement in order to negotiate something better....then 9/11 happened. I am also sure that in either of the other ones you mentioned weren't willing or able to fund them properly to make it last 80 yrs.....80 yrs!! Believe me when I tell you, Ron is very careful with our retirement and money!!! He hired the best to make sure it is done the right way and he will hire the best to oversee our retirement fund!! See the big three, unlike the others you mentioned, seen what benefit it would be for us to hire someone to oversee the funding for our retirees. It gets rid of a lot of cost and overhead from their books!! We relieve them of their burden and in return our retirees do not have to worry about the market crashing or Ford going bankrupt!! There will be money available for future retirees and current retirees, and their spouses, Health Care for the rest of their lives! Nice job Bob and Ron!! I would hope that Ron and Bob are on target with their visions. Pessimistically, I look to the past as to how our International has handled past crises. I tend to hope for the best, plan for the worst and live life to the fullest in the meantime.

I am not concerned for the retirees VEBA in the near future, but what about when Ron and Bob are gone and the retirees become comfortable and secure. That is when I would be concerned, a new leader could contract the handling of this to a less than stellar company, or the new union leaders could be shady themselves. Ron and Bob will handle this like thier first born, but the succeeding leaders of the union I fear wont.

Remember that any new leader, in charge, is a leader and got there through many election, trust and integrity!! Most leaders get in these positions because they true leaders, with the memberships best interest first at hand, no matter what some might think!! I feel very confident that the leaders we elect in the future, and we do elect them, will lead us on the right path to longevity with the UAW and Ford!! MelanieHasA Mustang
Greetings! Mademoiselle/Messr paris, bravo for an insightful and telling post! Unfortunately, some of those people do indeed believe they are more important than they actually are. I do believe, however, that a larger incentive might be in order this time around so as to speed the process of eliminating un-needed worker bees. Perhaps a stipend of say $150,000 and a year of free health insurance would take care of the unfortunate situation. Well, time now to dash. I am jetting to New York this afternoon for a week of shopping, fine dining and meetings at the Ford Foundation and have yet to direct my maid to pack my belongings! Taa taa! Oh, little simple Melanie. Dreams of living the big life, doesn't realise that $150G isn't even a year's wages for some of us. Of course, that's what an educated person gets paid. Not that she'd know.
