Jamers
I mistakenly put in 5w20 into my 4.0 ltr '06 Explorer and didn't notice it read 5w30 on the oil cap until after I was done. Will that be a problem? I'm assuming the oil weight is similar. Upon checking the owner's manual I can see only the 4.6 V8 calls for the 5w20. For some reason I was thinking nearly all Ford engines used 5w20 these days. I know my Edge does and so did my Five Hundred before it. Yes, they will mix. Thinner oil may get "consumed" faster. The other additives (for wearability, etc.) are more or less the same.

Hi Jamers. :D As "theoldwizard" advised, at this point there is no need to drain and change it. Just be sure to check your oil regularly. Next oil change, be sure to put in the proper oil. Good luck! :beerchug: Edited March 20, 2008 by bbf2530
StevenCaylor
It's only engines built outside the US that still need the 5W30 oil. Ford put out a TSB awhile ago stating that most of their US built engines can switch to 5W20. I have a 2000 Mustang (3.8 V6) and now use 5W20 Mobil 1. Ralph Greene
Also....5W20 is not thinner than 5W30....exccept at very hi temp. 100 C. At start up, they are both a 5 weight oil. Very little difference in them. I'm sure thats what Oldwizzard means. Edited March 20, 2008 by Ralph Greene
