megirldeth
I was told by someone that there never was a ford plant that went down to one shift and actually recovered from it ....anyone know if this is true?
OK
Sadly, I think one shift is the beginning of the end. These are extreme times in the entire auto industry so I guess the future can hold anything. The best hope IMO is the upcoming election. Maybe the economy can get back on track with a new leader. fordtpworker1993
NAP only ran 1 shift in the early 80's and came back with 2 but that was back in the day, unless there is a new product scheduled I would say it doesn't look good. oac bodyboy
THE OAKVILLE ASSEMBLE PLANT (PLANT 7 ) WENT TO ONE SHIFT IN 1980 FOR 18 MONTHS THAN RETURNED TO 2 SHIFTS TO BUILD TEMPO , TOPAZ AND ESCORTS THAN JUST TEMPO , TOPAZ. AND THAT PLANT IS STILL WORKING TODAY. ITS THE TRUCK PLANT THAT WENT AWAY, THE ONE THAT NEVER SAW A WEEK OF DOWN TIME . THEY WENT ONE SHIFT IN OCT. 93 AND CLOSED THE DOORS ON JUNE 04! Footballfan
I believe that MTP and Wixom were on one shift during the early 1980s and came back with 2, 3 in MTP's case. I think that Atlanta was on one shift as well during that era. Also, the most recent example is Auto Alliance. They were on one shift for about five years until the Mustang was moved there. MTP'er
1 Shift, 2 Shift, 3 Shift, it doesn't matter how many shifts your plant has. If they want to close you they will.

AAI a joint venture between Ford and Mazda went down to one shift before adding the shift back in 2003 for the addition of the Mustang. Livonia
I was told by someone that there never was a ford plant that went down to one shift and actually recovered from it ....anyone know if this is true? Livonia also was down to one shift in the early 80's. Lost my job for 9 years in that one. I have a question that's been asked of me many times by lower senoirty employees. What was worse, the 80's or now? Any one care to comment?

The 80's was worse because Ford did not give jack squat about you !!! There was no such thing as JSP or GEN back then like there is now, no such thing as being laidoff only 48 weeks. I was out on the street for 8 years !!!! Edited September 10, 2008 by H. D. Hogman
