New Mercury to be called C4

Recommended Posts

I believe a good name for the Focus-based Mercury could well be Cougar.

There have been 4-door Cougars as well as station wagons, so why not go with a strong brand name with the car?

If Merc is to have only a few models, including Milan and a Mariner replacement, then at least Cougar is a well-known and respected name. Later, if Merc were to get a 2-door coupe, it could use the Capri name.

What are you high?

Yes the Cougar name was put on 4 doors and station wagons, and they were a stain on the brand name. If Ford is not going to make a proper Cougar, then they need not use the name on anything.

There's a Kuga tophat coming for Ford and Mercury, maybe a Lincoln...

Where are you hearing that?

Last I knew, the "Kuga" top hat was going to be the new Mariner, with unique top hats for the Escape and the Lincoln variant.

afaik things are still quite nebulous

could either of you provide links when have time?

it's just that I've been rather insecure about Merc lately - - probably just becuz they didn't show the C557 yet... that, and I went off my meds Yikes.gif

I wouldn't be surprised if Lincoln is getting the next iteration of the Mariner. That would actually make perfect sense to me since my Lincoln loyal family has given up Lincoln's recently for Mariners because of the fuel economy (MKX is a gas-hog). A smaller Lincoln CUV is badly needed and would do well there.

^ ok BORG, since you know your people & their Mariners

got a question for you about the "MKG" (theoretical Lincoln Kuga)

of these 3 qualities:

- stuff hauling

- people hauling

- LUX-car-like appearance & ride

&

you can't have 'em all equally so... prioritize for me please :)

edit - not sure my meaning was clear so maybe:

- stuff hauling (truck/SUV-ish)

- people hauling (Van-like)

- Lux-CAR-like appearance & ride

this ^^^ is better?
