People say we make good money and we shouldn't get anything more then that. Retirees also tell me that I deserve to get paid and that's it. I love hearing company people tell me I get a paycheck and that's all I should get!. Well let me tell you, it's not enough. I am also tired of hearing how good ford does. I say we all start buying GM product if we don't see anything soon.

 

Lets start buying GM for a while.

 

I bet if every ford worker traded in his Ford for a GM vehicle we would put Ford Motor company down to the ground on it's knees. I hate talking like this, but I am tired of it all. Our high up UAW people are being taken care of, the high up execs are being taken care of. Ford if you don't start giving back to the worker soon I'll be taking care of GM!.

I respectfully submit a different opinion.

 

Shrinking working populations with increasing retirement populations mean greater demands on government to tax those fewer workers a greater amount to cover the expenses for entitlements such as "social Security" and "Medicare". Smaller populations require fewer homes, autos, services, streets, manufactured goods, vacation retreats...........all which leads to fewer jobs, greater unemployment, more entitlement expenses, higher taxes ad nauseum.

I have a hard time believing the average child per household has jumped from an average of .90 to 1.86 per family to the 4,5,6,7 number you throw out here in 10 years.

I'll probably be shot, but I find this topic very interesting. Why do one group of workers compare their salary with another group that don't perform similar jobs? Football players should compare against other football players, janitors against other janitors. If I'm a sales rep for a pharma company, I'm interested in what the guys at Eli Lily are making in my position - or sales reps for Kimberly Clark, Sony, Polaris, and Dole. If I work on an assembly line, I'd compare my pay and benefits to the GM, Hyundai, Honda, the steel industry and other similar workers.

The profit sharing has remained unchanged at Ford. If Ford is successful, each worker shares in that success. I understand that there may be a disagreement to the equity of bonus.

If I'm a company, I'm trying to retain talent on the blue collar, white collar, and executive levels. I'd look at how much I have invested in a person, what their future looks like with the company, and what would happen in terms of cost and productivity if they left. I'd look at what other companies are offering in the industry and similar industries and estimate their immediate and future hiring needs. I'd look at the equation and base the compensation around that.

We don't see a lot of voluntary turnover within Ford at the blue collar level because Ford pays more the market value for the work. If Ford paid less than market value, more employees would choose to leave without the need of a package because it would make financial sense.
