Mark B. Morrow
Too bad its going away. Unrealized potential is always sad. http://www.forbesautos.com/advice/toptens/...tml?partner=aol
BORG
Don't fret, it's replaced by the MKZ. Thankfully, Ford has been able to increase profit margins by minimizing the expenses related to safety engineering. So that makes it a much better car...for Ford! StevenJ
More importantly, the Town Car is there too. Too bad Ford is too busy killing of it's saftest vehicles. At least they will still have the wimpy Volvo.

Actually BORG, the Zephyr/MKZ is slotted below the LS. The LS's replacement is the MKS which is based on the 500 platform with the class-leading safety ratings and the S80 which is also on the list you are commenting on. So don't fret too much BORG. Also BORG, the LS only has a 4 star driver side-impact rating, while the Zephyr has a 5 star rating . The LS also has a 4 star front impact passenger rating. So maybe you better fret about the LS and not it's replacement
630land
LS, Smell S. D3 cars are safe and I don't know how some can say "Ford is killing off all it's safe cars". The CD3's get side airbags this fall. Some will just never get over the LoSer, thinking it 'could have changed Lincoln'. Well, it didn't, and no BMW driver was interested in it. Only Stang drivers who craved BMW's, but had to have something with a Ford brand name on it. It was a compromise car that appealed to very small # of people. Import owners were not swayed, and domestic owners couldn't afford one, until the current $8000 rebates. ANTAUS
Well if the LS appealed to a "very" small number of people, the Zephyr is appealing to an even smaller number since it's sales are half of that if not more....at an average rate of 2000 units sold per month
Roadrunner
Interesting. I still say they should keep the LS, most definitely.
Explorer4X4
I agree, I like (well, soon it'll be "liked") the LS better then both Town Car and MKZ/Zephyr. Looks cooler, it looks different for a change. But my favorite Lincoln has to be a Mark LT.
StevenJ
It's not soo much what the LS is in terms of quality and performance, it is more about what it represents. The LS represents the RWD sport sedan that every credible luxury make should have. Ford blew it in two ways, one by making it too small to house the modular V8s, and two the lack of advertising. The Limia 4.0l V8s simply don't make enough power to affordably move the LS. Yes the Lima V8s can make a lot of power in PAG's cars such as the XJ and such but it is extremely expensive to produce. If they would have strechted the engine bay a bit to make it accomidate the Intech 32 V8, I think it would have been a lot better. That coupled with the newer Explorer six speed automatic and we'd have something in Infinity M45 category. While we are on the subject of the modular four valves, the N/A motors, at least in Lincoln form, should be made to rev up to 7000 rpm for an automatic with a higher stall torque convertor. If BMW can make 340 hp out of their 4.5l V8, then so can Ford. Edited July 6, 2006 by StevenJ
