King calls on UAW to stage nationwide protests

Its time to support our union.

The time is now with only 2 options

1 Sit on the couch and complain about how the union sucks with our great pay benefits and job security

or

2 Follow Reuther's path to building the unions strength, building public sympathy and support for the weak and underpaid and gain much needed union membership in all sectors of the employment rolls to build our ability to prosper.

The choice is yours. Sit on the couch and complain or join in the fight.

There is nothing more satisfying or gratifying than protesting and getting arrested for what is right in this country.

What will you do?

I will join the fight and if successful this will be my 6th arrest on civil disobedience in support and building of our union.

Flint —United Auto Workers President Bob King used the anniversary of the Flint sit-down strike on Friday to call for "direct action" — including nonviolent civil disobedience — to take back America from the "right-wing Republicans" and "one-percenters" he says have hijacked this democracy.

And their first target will be General Electric Co.

Seventy-five years after workers took over General Motors' factories and forced the company to sign its first national contract with the union, King said the same sort of militancy is needed to stop what he called a rollback of workers' rights and civil rights.

"It will take direct action. It will take us being willing to face arrest. It will take us being willing to be part of marches and demonstrations," King told a crowd of some 500 cheering union members gathered at the UAW Local 651 to mark the anniversary of the end of the 1937 strike. He said corporations such as GE are making billions and paying little or no taxes while middle-class Americans are losing their homes.

"It's immoral!" King shouted. "We should be so outraged at the injustice in America!"

But he said workers should not stop there.

King said the UAW is joining with other unions, including the Service Employees International Union, members of Occupy Wall Street and others to create a new "movement for social justice" that will employ the tactics of the civil rights movement to fight against what he called "corporate greed" and attacks on labor.

"In April, we're going to be part of a broad coalition that's going to be training our membership and anybody who cares about justice in this society in nonviolent direct action," King said. Their first mission, he said, will be to demonstrate at the GE shareholders meeting in Detroit on April 25.

"It is morally wrong — it is absolutely wrong — that they make billions and billions and billions of dollars and pay not a single penny in taxes," King said, his veins bulging as his voice grew hoarse from shouting. "Enough is enough. We're the 99 percent who want 100 percent fairness for everyone

GE has a sweetheart deal with Obama to support green energy. If you want to accomplish anything, you need to go after the socialists, starting with the democrats who are in power, overseeing the collapse of our way of life. The reason there are no jobs is because businesses are fed up with this government and are moving out, or going under. Socialism has failed again, and the union wants you to fight for more socialism. Michael Moore will make a few hundred million more dollars filming it, and you suckers will lose what little you still have.

How does this protest help the 300,000 employees at GE?

Did GE really not pay a single penny in taxes?

Best of luck with your protest. Please get back to us and let us know what you accomplished.

Believe the appropriet response would be should have taken this fight on when at the table with ford.

Burned once twice shy.

turned around and awarded raises and bonuses after ratification with grievance still in system.

Caterpiller should be a target with the whip-saw that just occurred in London ontarios electramotive diesel locamotive plant

previously a general motors division dispensed of at bankruptcy time.

Cat came in at negotions and demandied employees take a 50% pay cut plus eliminate pension and holidays.

they had just built a plant in muncie Indiana had no product there. ( premeditated closure )

good luck with your labour actions all rallys and protests are positive in making public aware of what is happening

All done under socialism. We have never seen true capitalism. Government interference allows for corporations to find loopholes and eliminate competition. Government should not be running anything, especially health care and education. They should not be telling private businesses how to run their affairs. Leave that up to the people who will either buy or not buy depending on what kind of citizens these corporations are; not on how much they bribe the government. The government should not have the authority to grant any favors to businesses. Then there would not be any possibility of corruption. By having government provide services, there is no competition, and much beaurocracy, so costs go through the roof, and we pay high taxes. We pass this on to our employers who have to pay higher wages. Some decide to leave to avoid this government interference. Displaced workers are still eligible for government handouts, even though the government now has less revenue. Other corporations replace high paid unionized workers with lower paid workers. This sends an indirect message to the government to cut them some slack. Unionized high paid workers pay say $500 per week in income tax; whereas lower paid workers pay next to nothing. Highly automated businesses can afford to pay high wages, but by paying lower wages, they are putting pressure on the government, using the workers as pawns.

Capitalism vs Socialism is far too philosophical an argument for me.How about we just face facts and wake up to Corporate Fascism?Since a corporation is now a person.A person who can contribute indefinite $$$$$$ to politicians.Who`s side do you think the laws favor? The working-class schmoe?Everybody likes rich friends.Life is so much easier when you are rich and powerful.Corporations are coercing favors from the government everyday.Bribery and corruption is rampant.Ah yes,,,,the 'Heroic job creators'!Betcha if Michigan lowered its corporate tax rate down to zero { or is it already?}and shifted the taxes onto the backs of minimum wage employees,Michigan would be number one in the nation for jobs created!Republicans rejoice!!!China here we come!

Everything is a nail to a man who only has a hammer. And so to Trim everything that has a government is socialism.

To have socialism, you have to have government. Government works against capitalism, so the less government you have, the more capitalism can thrive. Government "allowing" businesses to exist with a degree of autonomy, but heavily regulated and taxed is a branch of socialism called fascism. People who want government to have complete control and ownership of business see fascism as right wing. From where they are standing, which is communism, it is. From the standpoint of someone who is in the middle of the political spectrum, both communism and fascism are far left.

Nobody has ever given a down to earth simple explanation of where I am in error. It is like I am attacking their religion; their belief system. Government runs education. Therefore government controls people's thought processes. It sets the parameters, and you must stay within them to get along with government. Tear down these walls; give up all beliefs, and the world becomes clearer. If someone is preaching beliefs to you, nine out of ten he is lying to you. The more beliefs you have, the more imprisoned you are.
