Right now, Ford provides me with a policy that covers me and my family that is much more than we actualy need. I have a choice of 3 plans and choose the one that best fits my needs. If Ford offered a 4th option that was an annual lump sum of money, I'd then consider options that were offered in an exchange. I'd prefer a high deductible plan that offered catastrophic coverage. I'd then pay cash for preventitive and small visits, which are negotiable and much cheaper to cash buyers.

 

Health costs will only go down if Americans have some skin in the game. As long as I have a $20 co-pay, I'll go to the doctor everytime I have a headache, a hangnail, or anything else.

Hi gatorman925,I know this much change its kinda scary.I dont know if the IUAW and Ford will continue to offer us the health care package we have now especially if the public option is so much cheaper.Maybe the public option will be accepted by a wide range of good doctors.There are a couple positives I can think of;if you lose your job you still are covered;if you get a divorce you wont get stuck with providing your spouse healthcare;maybe we can get a raise if we go on the public option.Main question I have right now is will my taxes go up?To be sure,this legislation is a godsend to many who currently are without insurance but,but someone has got to pay.People making 20 babies and not paying taxes, entitled to the same health care as everybody?I dont believe in a free lunch.Time will tell if it is a good thing.

What is needed is no government involvement. Then people would be able to afford to pay for their own health care like they pay for their own food and cars and rent/mortgages. End government regulations. Taking out an appendix and sewing it up is not rocket science. A butcher could do it for a hundred bucks. You don't need 10 years of university. The medical profession has a monopoly, and being in cahoots with a corrupt government and greedy insurance companies, we are being taken to the cleaners. Any surgical procedure or prescription drug could be obtained for a fraction of what we are being hosed for if there was competition. You should be able to go to a privately run kiosk, deposit a toonie, submit a blood sample, and obtain a printout of what is wrong with you in five minutes. Deposit another toonie, and obtain the pills you need. A competitor would run a special for $2.99. Pay by VISA or Debit. We are being held for ransom and will be forced to die without treatment unless we use the government system. It is a Mafia protection racket.

I am a Ford employee in Canada where there is government health care paid for by tax dollars. I wouldn't use it on a bet. The waiting area is dirty, crowded and sparcely furnished. The receptionist is surly and suspicious of your ailment; downplaying your symptoms. The wait is eight hours. After a useless inspection by the doctor, you are dismissed, carrying home the germs that you picked up from other waiting patients.

I had occasion to utilize your health care a few years ago for my wife. I couldn't believe the difference. The waiting area was spotless, soaring ceilings, shopping in the same building, no wait at all, courteous, sympathetic reception. An MRI was given immediately, within minutes, no 30 day wait like here. If we had this kind of health care, I would use it.

Nice........Obamacare will be single payer if carried to fruition. After a second Obama term there will be no more talk of repeal . Dems and Repubs will simply fight for votes by saying they can control the beast known as obamacare better than the other guy (or gal). ACA needs to be ripped out root and branch.

You do realize there is no law requiring Ford to provide us health insurance don't you? Why would you think the UAW would just let Ford stop providing health insurance? Think about it! For Ford to quit providing benefits, it would have to be negotiated, just like it always has been!

Hi Saltydog79.Here is why I think all Ford hourly employees and retirees will end up on the 'Public Option'.The IUAW has come out publically in favor of a Single Payer Government run system;Ford Motor could save money on the cost difference between Ford offering us benefits or paying a $2,000 fine per employee.Let me say that I know people who are middle-age,have pre-existing conditions,have lost their jobs and dont have insurance.My heart goes out to them and for them and others this bill is a GODSEND.This bill is historical.What I am trying to do is piece together what will happen to me and what will the health care system look like in say 5 years?Will there be overly crowded facillities?How do I see a doctor?A specialist?I will tell you this, all of our taxes are going up.Wanna bet me?I will come clean with my opinion on this bill.My opinion {stop laughing} is that reform is necessary BUT that the ACA Act is unconstitutional-case closed,try again.The USA has over 300 million people along with porous borders.We are NOT nice,friendly,much smaller,Canada.Do you realize the millions of people all over the planet who would love to come here any way they can?I see a massive government run entitlement program.I see more government agencies and beaurocrats.I see dis-interested doctors.I see fraud and abuse.I see politics and favoritism.I see a class-society where all the celebrities and atheletes and politicians will simply walk to the front of the line and continue to get what they want, while the working-class is thrown into a rationed care form of socialized medicine.The President has been talking out of three sides of his mouth and blowing sunshine out his ass, all at the same time.There is my opinion.What does it change?The main reason I kept showing up at Ford factories, settling for not taking pay raises and exclusively buying Ford products is because that Ford offers healthcare insurance to it`s retirees.Now whats the difference?Am I gonna eventually, after 30 years, end up on the new Public Opition Medicaid program or buy my own policy?These are major changes and I have concerns with no clear cut answers right now and telling me to simply just trust the IUAW to negotiate and the government to run 20% of our nations economy,makes it all that much more distressing.Thank you all for participating.I read every comment.

So much misinformation floating around. If the bill is too complex for you to read, maybe you are not smart enough to comment on it. The info is out there if the bill is to complex for you. Use a website that is not a schill for the TP or the GOP to seek out the truth, it's not that hard.

 

The mandate was a republican idea, until passed by a Black democrat. The law was partly based on Romneys plan in Mass, which appears to be WORKING.

 

Illegal aliens will not be allowed to use the Exchanges, nor have access to insurance they do not already have access to.

 

If you cannot afford the tax penalty, you will be exempt.

 

You will not be required to change doctors, unless your insurance company has different "networks", same policy as are in existence now.

 

There are no "death panels".

 

The government will not be getting between you and your doctor (unless you need an abortion, then the GOP will be there with you passing judgment)

 

The law requires PRIVATE insurance, not government health care. No new government hospitals are being built to supply "Obamacare". Unless you are a vet and access the VA you will not be seeing "government doctors". You will see the same physicians as you saw last year.

 

Small businesses willhave access to tax credits to help them supply insurance to their employees . (stop by Downtown Home and Garden, speak to the owner about how it works for him. He HIRED BECAUSE of the new law)

 

there will be no more rationing than currently exists, maybe less. Insurance companies will not be able to ration via dropping you just as you are diagnosed with illness.

 

The "donut hole" created when GWB passed the unfunded Medicare Part "D" (aka as "socialized" prescription coverage) will be closed.
