mb27
I've had my car for a few weeks now and a while back I noticed that the headlamps didn't seem perfectly clear. It's sort of like there is a haze on the inside. For these photos I cleaned the exterior with a microfiber cloth and invisible glass. First, I'm 100% certain this is not condensation. It looks like this whether it's been sunny and 80 or freezing cold and raining, and there are no visible signs of water inside. Second, as far as I can tell it does not seem to affect the performance of the headlights, just the appearance. And last, I did go to the dealership. They only had one on the lot and it was like mine, but that's only a total of 2 cars... not really much to satisfy my curiosity. They told me it was normal. Said it was due to the projector headlights (this is my first car with projectors). I tried doing a google image search but couldn't really find anything in support or against that. Since I found this place I figure I might as well ask you all. So, are yours like mine? Edited November 18, 2012 by mb27
CheesyRider
M wife doesn't have her Fusion yet, but her last two cars had projector headlights. I'm pretty sure it is normal for projector headlights to look like that. Edited November 18, 2012 by CheesyRider
TurboTi
Looks to me like the plastic is absorbing and diffusing some of the light. There could also be some residue on the inside from normal manufacturing processes. They're probably all like that. If you were worried about it, you could separate the covers and try to clean them. They're typically glued together and will separate in a low-temperature oven.
JSKershaw
These look normal to me. My Mazda3 has projector lights and they look the same when on. Like you said, it doesn't effect the actual light, but it looks hazy at times.
elmy311
my dad's MKZ with projectors were the same way. It reminded me of a hazy windshield. It was strange at first (it was our first car with projectors) but it never got worse, and never affected the actual performance of the headlights. I noticed this on Cadillac CTS's and my neighbors Toyota Camry too so it's normal.
Camride
Totally normal, my Audi looks the same way.
dbmaven
2011 Edge with Xenon HIDs, 2008 Infiniti G35x with Xenon HIDs - both produce the same effect. Despite the perception of the outer plastic lens being "clear", it really isn't 100% clear. So, there's always a minimal amount of distortion/absorption/reflection. mb27
Well this is interesting! Ok apparently I haven't visited here often enough, just saw this already posted. But still, mine was built in September. http://www.autoblog....s-time-for-fau/ Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s): FORD / FUSION 2013 Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company Report Receipt Date: NOV 30, 2012 NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V553000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A Component: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS Potential Number of Units Affected: 19,106 Summary: Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles, manufactured from February 3, 2012, through October 20, 2012, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process. Consequence: An improperly cured projector coating will become hazy through operation, over time, reducing the brightness of the low-beam lamp. This may decrease driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall is expected to begin on December 10, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332. Notes: Ford's recall campaign number is 12C27. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
