2005 Escape, front brake hoses failing

With ANY brake hoses (doesn't matter the make), if one fails they probably all will. Better look at the rears too. Escape brake hoses wear out at the ends, worse on the front but also on the rear. They will show wear for a significant amount of time before they do, they don't "just blow". A good check over at every oil change (as it should be) will easily spot fatigue in the hoses.

Last year, at about 90K, the drivers-side front flex line blew, thankfully, at the top of my driveway. Last week, the passenger-side failed. Have I lost my mind, that after 8 years and not quite 100K, that these have failed prematurely?

Is this an issue, or a fluke?

Thanks, HRG

Hmmm, I can only go off of my vehicle history.

'89 Pathfinder - 225,000 miles when i sold it. Never any brake line issues.

'01 Toyota rav4 - 206,000 when I sold it. Never any brake line issues.

'13 Ford Escape - Squeaky front brakes. TSB fixed that.

What kind of climate is the vehicle in? Just trying to ask if there are any outside factors that your not mentioning that contributed to the brake lines failure. Wrong brake fluid put in at some point? I dunno, just seems odd. I agree with the above post that a visual inspection should be done periodically, which is one reason why I change my own oil. It gives me a chance to get under the vehicle and look around.

an update. The RR brake hose failed last night, the LR has a severe crack in it. Just amazing to me that a 9 yo, 111,000 mile vehicle would have such a problem. That makes all 4 of them.

Thankfully, there were no crashes or injuries involved, otherwise the "sharks" could have possibly been involved with this one.

to answer a previous question, I live in the Chicago IL area.
